oops!

i suppose if maude browning was there then olivia correy was not it's only female resident. :-[

i don't remember that character having a home.i thought she was just one of those dockside doxies barnabas hooks up with in 1795.

i'm glad to see that i'm not the only aficionado of room twenty four.

they at least had the good sense to reconfigure/refurnish the set with each use although the window treatment is usually the same:loose weave taupe drapes backed by venetian blinds.

sadly it is only during burke's residency that we see the functioning kitchenette.

perhaps to hieghten the character's sense of desperation it is under paul stoddard that the set is at it's most bleak with this dumpy sink inexplicably mounted to the wall.

it's generally bachelor lodgings so i believe that olivia correy/a.k.a.amanda harris is it's only female occupant.the set is pretty austere so they try to "femenize" it with ferns and drapes and perhaps in a nod to the character's vanity several framed photographs of ms.correy herself!

i had forgotten that maude browning and ned stuart resided there as well.is there anyone else?

i think i read on this board that jim pearson's personal feelings about this event are somewhat irrevelvent.

he is an employee of dan curtis productions and the event's continuation depends on it's viability more than what mr.pearson personally "wants" to do.

is that not correct?

p.s. a bit of bickering on a message board is pretty light "grief" when one considers what else is going on in the world today.

other posts in this thread indicate(#3 and #11)that certain actors who wanted to be involved were told that there "services were not needed".

i don't know any of the participants i'm just basing my observation on what i've read here.

nancy,

my feelings are just that any actor who wanted to participate in this event and were told not to probably felt hurt by that.

i obviously do not have the "inside scoop" that you do but that's my impression.

vicki is old-fashioned but...

having grown up in an orphanage she probably felt that she lacked what it took to make a "respectable" wife in those days.family name, pedigree, some financial security.still there was a certain snobbishness about her that made it hard to see her ever marrying "down".

gaining employment with a wealthy family elevated her social status somewhat but she must have been resigned to her "lot" in life as a domestic servant.a lifetime of squat shoes and shapeless dresses.her "modesty" made her perhaps oblivious to the fact that she was impossibly beautiful and would have attracted the attention of numerous eligable men.

but yes her thinking by 1967 standards was at least a decade behind the times. ::)

i'm sorry but this whole thing seems like a cocktail of snubs, ingratitiude and hurt feelings.

it's left a sour taste in my mouth and the darn thing hasn't even happened yet.

b.t.w. according to the festival mailing there is to be a costume party and other guests are "to be announced" whatever that means.

2318
john karlen not "invited" with jonathan frid on board?

i find this development to be quite shocking. :o

do the organizers of this event not understand that it's the actors from the show that are the primary draw for fans?we don't come for the mpi table.

for the actors from a forty year old soap opera willing to attend it's fan gathering to be told that their "services were not needed" is the crudest slap in the face i think i've ever heard of.

interesting assesment arashi.

while i did start to lose interest during this storyline i can appreciate what you said about the "pleasant day-to-day" atmosphere at collinwood.it's true.i appreciated that appearance of normalcy during the early part of the leviathan storyline as well as parallel-time.

with all sorts of monsters coming out of the woodwork during 1968/69 a return to a slightly more "normal" atmosphere at the house(of course with an undercurrent of terror)was welcome.

i received the festival mailing yesterday.

as i suspected the two day "celebration" is really more of a one day event.friday's activities don't start until 6pm.what with hotel check-in and all of the registration fuss that really only leaves saturday as a full day of scheduled events.

thus far only kathryn leigh scott, lara parker and marie wallace are on board in addition of course to jonathan frid(no diana millay?!).i can't believe karlen would pass up the opportunity to reunite with frid.

i don't get the fest this year.why when they get the show's biggest draw(frid)in attendence did they decide to scale back the whole thing and relegate it to an out of the way location?has anyone spoken to any of the organizers for the reasoning behind this? ???

i like the purple theme but i miss having some kind of artwork at the top of the page that said "dark shadows".

if the slide show is not returning can we expect some other type of visual?

Current Talk '07 I / Re: What Happened To Joe Haskell?
« on: May 19, 2007, 04:51:33 PM »
i'm not sure how joe would have fared at wyndcliff.

it seemed to be a pretty ineffectual facility.did anyone ever receive beneficial treatment there?did anyone get "better"?

after the initial set-up during the time that julia was treating maggie there the hospital seems to serve more as a depository for characters leaving the show(either temporarily or permanently)whom the writers don't want to "kill off".

doing summer stock?taking a trip to paris?how about a nice rest at wyndcliff?

willie and elizabeth both seem just as bonkers when they walk out of there as when they walked in.
and for a supposedly "secure" facility it might as well have had a revolving door with the ease with which one could escape.once julia establishes permanent residency at collinwood who the heck runs the place anyways?nurse jackson?

so it's hard to say how joe came out of the experience.as for being a fan of joe the part of the story where he's courting maggie is really sweet.i don't particularly care for what the writers did with the character later on.he was definitely one of the hunkiest actors who ever appeared on the show.

remember how on cartoons like "scooby do" and "josie and the pussycats" the characters were always drawn wearing the same clothes?

as much as vicki's name comes to become synonymous with all-things-sleeveless if d.s. was a cartoon i think she would be wearing the red and blue dress.i know it's not fair but it's the archetypal garment.it's childishness perfectly sums up the character's naivety.

with julia it would be the green tweed suit.she gets lots of different things to wear over the years but if she was a cartoon character i think she would always be drawn in the green tweed.

but this is starting to get off-topic so... ::)

i believe the set was used as barnabas' bedroom. ;)

also as someone pointed out it was sort of an antechamber outside of vicki's goal cell.i can't recall a third use during 1795.

in the present the set also appears without explanation as the office of collins family lawer frank garner.

here's my personal favorite...

when burke devlin returns to collinsport in 1966 he takes a suite of rooms at the inn(which maggie sarcastically refers to as the "presedential suite".)

what number room is this?who else resides in this space over the years?

true magnus,

but the dress in question is very, very, very specific to vicki.it has come up on the board on countless occasions over the years.

so it's just funny that they ever thought that they could get away with passing this super-particular garment off on another character.
