during her days on d.s. joan bennett as elizabeth stoddard had(with slight variations)three principle hairdos...

the towering updo(including gothick's bizarre geisha confection)of 1966-68 which, post live burial,is replaced by the tidy pageboy of the quentin era which is in turn followed by the neat "flip" of the levializ period.

although i'm somewhat loyal to the beehive(worn during joan's best period on the program)and appreciative of the smartness of the pageboy i think that final 1970 look ended up being the most flattering on joan.

i saw mr.vigoda walking down the street in new york a few months(weeks?)ago too.

i have a habit of running into(and approaching)d.s. actors around town.

i recently had a brief but pleasant chat with barbara blackburn(carolyn 91)at the store where i work.she was very nice

was the cast frequent guests on talk/game shows at the time of it's run?

Did you try looking for the afghan, mscbryk?  Should be a lot easier to find than the pen.  Check any room of any house at any time anywhere in Maine.  It always shows up.

true i could have looked for the afghan but while i walked along that gray, misty shore i was really "feeling" victoria winters and decided to look for the pen instead. [ghost_wink]

how nice of marie to invite us to join her.

one day i had A LOT of free time and looked up d.s. characters' names and actors on facebook.

among others there are 17 grayson halls(mostly guys),1 jonathan frid(not ours),20 quentin collins,10 carolyn stoddards,3 willie loomis,5 angelique bouchards(believe it or not)and dozens of victoria winters.

but marie and betsy durkin matthes are the only actors i could find with facebook pages.

i just got back from a lovely weekend at the maine coast.

saturday was beautiful but sunday was cold and misty and gray and i felt like i was in collinsport.

i went for a walk along the shore and as i combed for shells and seaglass more and more i found myself searching for the silver filigreed fountain pen.

i wanted to experience the gorgeousness and the rareness and the value.

i know that too possess the pen would be to put one's very life in danger but it would be worth it!

for it to allow one to leave one's humdrum existence in favor of a life of mystery and intrigue and potential ghostly visitations.

but in the end i never found the pen and had to comfort myself with a plate of lobster pernod.

i believe it was the "high hat" lounge that "grant douglass" quenched his thirst. [ghost_wink]

according to tonight's news there was no less than three shootings in newark today.

why is the fest being held in such a weird place?

super sixties.quintessentially sixties.

works fabulously as a fashion montage.the plot not so much.i couldn't exactly tell you what it was about.almost surreal.

but grayson was sublime.she appears in two major scenes.one as a chanel-clad editrix at a fashion show and the other...in a turban, and harem pants, and sequined eye makeup, and enough jewelry to choke a horse...at her office.

but well worth a look just for the locations and art direction and fabulous "yellow submarine" credit sequence and of course la hall.

getting to this topic very late but i had seen neither "boys in the band" nor 1841pt when this was posted so i knew nothing about keith...

however i just watched "boys" over the weekend, including many dvd extras, and was totally blown away by it.genius.or as one friend put it "exquisite torture".

i actually had no idea that a d.s cast member was in it until the closing credits and i recognized mr.prentice's name from this board.i really liked him in the film.and super hot too.

even after all my years with d.s. i've still never made it to 1841pt.i sort of started to lose interest during the 1840 episodes and stopped with them although i've re-watched some favorite storylines several times and kind of liked having something else to look forward to should i ever decide to watch it.now i'm quite curious to see mr.prentice's work on the program.

i must say that it was quite striking for a daytime soap(particularly one with a large adolescent audience)in 1970 to cast an actor so strongly associated with a gay character and situation(keith had played "larry" for two years in the play version of "boys" before reprising his role for the film).quite.

sad too that keith, and five of his nine "boys" castmate, died so young.

in an ongoing series of films in conjunction with the exhibition "the model as muse" the costume institute at the metropolitan museum of art will be screening "qui estes-vous,polly maggoo?" on friday july 17th at 5:30 pm.

it features of course our beloved doctor hoffman a.k.a grayson hall.i've never seen it and can't wait.

there will be a pre-screening discussion with harold koda(the institute's director),kohlee yohannan and dorothy mcgowen(the film's star).

last night they screened "funny face" with a discussion by legendary model carmen dell'orifice.it's a nice show if you like that sort of thing.
