LOVE your billing mysterious!

depp, green and carter as the "above the title" names, followed by the rest of the cast with pfeiffer getting special mention and, in a nod to the original series, ingenue victoria winters getting the final "and...as..." billing.

love it!

next to depp pfeiffer is certainly the biggest "star" attached to the project. but i don't see her getting second billing i see her getting FINAL billing as in...

and
Michelle Pfeiffer
as
ELIZABETH COLLINS STODDARD

one of those type deals.

how's this?

after listening to me yammering on about DS for years a coworker just checked out the first dozen or so barnabas episodes from neflix(she just got to the part where willie returns to collinwood after being among the missing for a few days)...

while she hasn't actually come out and told me she dislikes it she said it's so "slow paced" that she watches it to fall asleep to. [ghost_tongue]

more than anything i think wyndcliff ended up serving as a depository for characters/actors taking time off or leaving the series whom the writers didn't want to permanently kill off...

doing summer stock? wyndcliff! joining your husband in paris? wyndcliff! taking a part on "the secret storm"? wyndcliff!

barnabas and willie both took restcures at wyndcliff...i wonder what jonathan frid and john karlen were up to in real life that necessitated their characters' time outs?

sometimes i feel like this film is an exercise in one step forward, one step back...

the script sounds fabulous...eva green calls it "funny". the collinwood set looks amazing...barnabas is dressed like a "pimp"

i suppose none of us will really know until it's released but the rumors can be SO maddening.

Love the idea of a family fondue dinner, overseen by a dour Mrs J (who on Earth is playing Mrs J??).

oh i can only imagine mrs.j's barely suppressed FURY the first time liz asked her to make fondue! the way she saw things that fancy "foreign" food should stay where it belonged. all mr.malloy ever asked for was a proper new england boiled dinner and some nice FRESH homemade mayonnaise. she blamed carolyn for these wild ideas what with her hanging out at that fancy-pants "bangor pine"!

b.t.w. one of my favorite moments of 1970 parallel-time was when quentin and maggie return to collinwood and "hoffman" has prepared them(fireside, if i recall!)some sort of crab dish served in some sort of fancy silver chaffing-dish type thing.

i wonder if in the film they'll consume alcohol original "DS style"? that is to say never any ice cubes, nothing chilled. just warm sherry and brandy poured from an ever-present decanter into glasses conveniently numbering the amount of people in the scene.

and since there is apparently an on-set chef and the piece is set in 1972 should we expect the gang to gather around the fondue pot?

i think there are those who would certainly question the good doctor's ethics, like maggie evans for instance, or her competency, like the many, many people who went to her hospital and didn't receive any beneficial treatment and never got better...

still she had gusto and wore moss green tweed like nobody's business. [ghost_rolleyes]

who knows...

vicki might have attended out of some strange sense of duty and misplaced guilt. liz similarly might have thought it the "right thing to do" under the circumstances. a recognition of matthew's eighteen years of service and a gesture of noblesse oblige. in this vein she might have asked carolyn and david to attend as well. burke might have stood by vicki's side but all roger would have done was raise a glass to the poor soul of that madman.

and as acrimonious as their relationship could be mrs.johnson might have donned her black hat and attended because it's what a "good christian woman" did and lord knows mrs.j. liked to stay in our savior's good graces. also in a nod to the "backstairs" status she shared with matthew.

i think speculation that half or more of the film will be set in the past is just wishful thinking on the part of 1795 devotees...

given the plot outline and casting information we've received it appears that the story will largely be set in 1972 after the initial setup. there's been no word on casting for joshua and naomi leading me to believe that they will be minor parts and not portrayed by any of the "present time" actors. we also haven't heard anything about significant 1795(or, for these purposes, 1792)players like jeremiah and ben stokes. all of the major casting information has been about the 1972 characters.

my feeling is that the piece will be primarily set in 1972.

b.t.w. perez hilton...who calls the original series "it's own level of bizarre" has posted the recent tim burton interview on the board today.

i received the form yesterday.

frankly i really can't see how much bobbi ann woronko can contribute as a guest. she appeared in a single episode over forty years ago. i doubt she recalls much at all.

something feels slightly bittersweet about this year's fest. it's likely the last one before the movie is released and, assuming it's going to be the hit depp's movie's generally are, the DS world expands exponentially. our little DS cocoon is about to change radically.

i really don't know what it all means. will future fests focus on the movie and it's fans? will it's stars and perhaps even depp be in attendance? will attendance explode? will the original series get pushed into the margins. i'm really not into a "star trek" like circus with thousands of attendees.

it's so much to take in. [ghost_undecided]

hmmm...

the boat is something of a curiosity. i'm not sure how a 1940's fishing vessel will fit into things unless it's just a backdrop or contributing to the general "atmosphere" of collinsport.

with a fourteen year old carolyn and(at least as of yet)no maggie i'm not sure how joe haskell would be worked into the plot in a major way. i also doubt much of the action will be focused on the cannery. interesting.

i can definitely see the appeal of 1897. and i can understand why it's a favorite time period for many fans...

i enjoy it(although,as i said it went on too long for me)but it's just not "my" dark shadows. my DS is the present. those are my touchstone characters and visually i prefer the aesthetics of the "present time".

that's one of the reasons i'm looking forward to the film so much. i understand that part of it will be set in the 1700's but it's primarily a "present time" piece...meaning 1972. it's about liz and vicki and julia(and,of course barnabas and angelique)and the characters i know and love from the original series. frankly if it was going to be about quentin and magda and petofi or any of the other 1897 characters i wouldn't really care about it that much.

but that's just my personal taste. and great assessment of the situation magnus.

interesting thought lydia about the writers giving quentin a ready-made plot when he inevitably showed up in the present.

although if i recall poor olivia/amanda wasn't cold in her grave before quentin started obsessing over daphne.
