during the Laura plot it was indeed suggested that David was in fact Burke's, and not Roger's, son. Roger himself threw the question at Laura at one point.

however the idea was abandoned with the conclusion of the storyline and was never picked up again. many fans have only seen the show with the arrival of Barnabas during the second year and are thus unaware David's true paternity was ever in question.

i'd imagine it's value was on par with Julia's "heirloom" medallion. that is priceless!

It's very perplexing. Maybe "season" is the only concept that the target audience can understand. I don't watch Survivor but according to what they have advertised, they are on season 33. It hasn't been on that long, has it? [a_xmas] [a_xmas]

i believe Survivor and some other "reality" shows have a summer and winter "season". two per year. so i suppose at this point it could have been on about 16 years. 2000 sounds about right for the launch of "reality".

but with DS who knows?

154
is anyone watching on Hulu?

i have not but i keep seeing people refer to it in terms of "seasons". that they are watching "season 13" or "season 8" and so forth.

in addition to it being a daily soap that doesn't have "seasons" it only ran for five years. so how are they getting into such high numbers? i'm wondering if they are trying to coordinate each episode block with corresponding DVD number? in effect the episodes in DVD volume 13 being "season 13". i really can't think of any other way they are determining these numbers.  [santa_huh]

reassembling those casts and trying to pick up continuity after four years would be a herculean task. i wonder if the network it up for it?

all the assorted and sundry "Trasks" that came after 1795 were "problematic" because, as pointed out, the original character had no children.

but like many plot inconsistencies of course this can get chalked up to the fact these episodes were only supposed to be seen once and not cross referenced. maybe viewers wouldn't remember a plot detail from 3 years earlier.

besides the various Trasks were essentially the same character. or at least they were supposed to "represent" the same thing to the viewer. he was similar to Quentin in that regard. although they are all technically different people the viewer is supposed to equate on with the other. they are spoken of in the fandom as if it was the same character.

i agree with The Exorcist in the number one spot. i don't think it's possible to make a scarier movie. even now when i see Linda Blair as a middle aged woman she unnerves me. from start to finish it terrifies me.

158
Mitch was a no-show on the east coast too...

sorry but this little group of actors is hardly in "high demand". so the vague "scheduling conflicts" always sounds evasive. they really shouldn't agree to come if they're not going to show up.

if Nancy's husband is ill i'll cut her a pass but she's been a last minute cancellation before as well.  [hall_huh]

i never caught that. carolyn's age has certainly been the subject of much speculation. in the 1966 episodes nancy very much plays the character like a petulant teenager.

the only time i recall vicki's age being specified was in 1795 when she tells an inquisitive countess dupres she's 22. and this was about 2 years into the run. she vicki would have been 20ish at the start. making the two girls the same age.

i also thought the "pay-at-the-door" option was telling...

it implied advance ticket sales were not strong. perhaps two "fests" withing the span of a few months was an overreach. i doubt many fans would travel extensively for both.

looks like a high-gloss, Disney-sanitized train wreck.

i just watched an historical horror documentary series called 'Monsters Among Us'. there was a two episode segment on vampire history and lore that covered the mythology over the centuries. there was a brief, but detailed, bit about DS. it (of course) focused largely on Barnabas/Frid but it was nice to see it has an important place in the history of the whole thing.

The three episodes that Clarice appears in this storyline were the most we had seen of her in eons. She did several other soaps around this time. Maybe she simply wasn't available.

exactly. for this season she did not appear in HoDS and the role of Mrs. Johnson was recast.

i think Ryan was originally part of this year's East Coast festival lineup but joined Donna Mckechnie and Kathy Cody on the "scheduling conflicts" train of last minute bailouts.  [hall_rolleyes]

apparently Mitch Ryan has been added to the roster. he'd be interesting to hear from. he's one of the few i've never met.
