i just got mine home. other than a quick skim on the subway i haven't really dove in.

i will say i'm glad i called 'forbidden planet' early this morning and had them put one aside for me. when i went into the store to pick it up there was only ONE copy left on the rack. i suppose there could have been more in the stockroom but still it seems to be doing quite well.

more deets later...

interesting observation cb...

moretz's interviews have a different "feel" as well. something of a reverence for burton's work from the 1980's like "beetlejuice" which she probably grew up on.

for what it's worth hbc is likely the only castmember(other than depp, of course)who's been privy to any of the postproduction work or is having any familiarity for the way the final film is being edited and what it's tone will be.

as for the film's marketing it's hard to guess. a current project that comes to mind is the new charlize theron film "young adult". it's being marketed as a light comedy starring the pretty actress but most reviews i've read describe it in much darker terms with theron playing a highly unlikable, selfish character. but i guess that's harder to sell to a mass audience.

thanks mysterious,

i'll keep a lookout for it. i think i was just surprised that when the character returns during the leviathan storyline after a two year absence that suit turns up again too.

where had it been all that time?

thanks so much that's wonderful...

it definitely looks like it's from the same photo session as the well known series with jonathan and grayson. since grayson has her cropped hair in the pictures one can assume it's from early 1968-ish.

i don't recognize liz's dress either. it's quite nice. i'd assume it's joan's own dress as well. she strikes me as the sort of lady that was always "well turned out" as they used to say.

astredo and parker were certainly well matched and had oodles of chemistry onscreen.

blair had a bit too much control over angelique during the "cassandra" moment. there are some scenes later on in the series where ang has the upper hand and really gives nicholas some much deserved attitude.

he also has some fun stuff with marie wallace as eve. and please let's not forget his legendary showdowns with grayson hall.

incidentally i recently noticed that he wore the same powder gray suit as nicholas for the character's entire run. now that's some cheap costuming. [santa_shocked]

so i guess we can assume that josette "takes the big dip" so to speak...

i suppose it really wouldn't be DS without this element.

i don't suppose they'd subject heathcote to this underwater filming. so one can assume it's her stunt double? maybe?

interesting description of the specter. i wonder if it's accurate or just the writer's interpretation.

I believe this is one of the last times we will see the kitchen.

believe it or not darklady you've got about a hundred more kitchen episodes to go...

i believe in it's last appearance there is a scene there with dennis patrick and john karlen as jason and willie. and of course that's just before the barnabas introduction.

so continue to enjoy it, please.

first i was jesting. now i'm annoyed.

i expressed an opinion of an actor on an old television show. i don't need to be badgered about it and i certainly don't owe anyone any explanations.

but you're right. i'm wrong. briscoe was talented. give him an emmy.

now i'm taking myself out of this tempest in a teapot. have fun.

good grief.

i would have thought my choice of words(a "proper scolding")would make clear my remarks were meant lightly. a jest. a bit of back-and-forth.

it sounds like something roger would say.

back on subject. i would have to say that talent and presence are two different things. like most actors who ended up with major parts on the series briscoe had alot of onscreen presence. he kept your eyes glued to the screen when he was on it. however that's something else than being truly gifted along the lines of say grayson hall or louis edmonds or clarice blackburn. they were genuinely gifted actors.

even our beloved roger davis had alot of onscreen presence. he left an indelible mark on the series. but i would not call him an immensely talented actor.

um, really? [santa_undecided]

don was very, very easy on the eyes. and he certainly created a memorable DS characterization in chris jennings...

but i don't think i can agree that he was a gifted actor. [santa_lipsrsealed]

as predicted all of the chatter over HBC's remarks seems to have died down considerably. at least on FB.

the FB page hasn't added any new members in days and posting there has virtually stopped. there is only so long one can spin out on something of this nature. cody hasn't had much further to say either.

hopefully this chapter is coming to it's conclusion.

some characters...like liz, roger and carolyn for instance...seemed to be genuinely alternate versions of their "real time" counterparts. they were the same people for whom life had worked out differently. their circumstances were different. this was the original premise for the storyline.

others, like of course quentin and angelique, were actually different characters completely who happened to have the same names as characters who somehow functioned in "the present" but were not actually part of that time. ang and quentin were only extant in the present through supernatural causes. they didn't really "belong" there.

as for chris and amy they were such a minor presence i didn't concern myself much with their relationship to the period. in fact their abrupt departures mid-storyline gives me the impression that they were just finishing out don briscoe and denise nickerson's contracts.

indeed the squawk over at FB is hitting a fever pitch...

it's this type of fanaticism that gives DS...and fandom in general...the worst possible reputation.

i've decided to stay out of the fray completely. since i use FB under my actual identity not the guise of some fictitious character i don't want to set myself up for the least bit of aggravation.

an actress made some off-the-cuff remarks about an old television show. it's not that big a deal. i'm surprised cody has thrown herself into the muck with such vigor. it's not like she really has anything at stake here.

i think the whole thing will blow over in a few days. think of the fit that was pitched when depp was photographed heavily made up. [santa_rolleyes]

unsurprisingly this group of "real fans" is largely populated by people operating under the pseudonyms of DS characters.

marie wallace and kathy cody have wisely made the decision to stop accepting "friend requests" from people using false identities.

unfortunately like most fandoms there is a highly disturbed underbelly to DS. it very rarely rears it's head at this fine board but it's out here and ms. carter's comments have triggered an outcry.
