It just now hit me that there is a BIG problem with the cast photo...  Look out the windows.  It's daylight!  What is Barnabas doing in Collinwood in the middle of the day?

good point...

however although the cast definitely appears to be "in character" that doesn't necessarily mean the image needs to be taken literally as being a "scene" per se. it doesn't need to be put into the context of the film. it can just be a stand alone image.

in other words one cannot tell at what point in the story the picture might have been taken.

stunning. fierce.

depp clearly appears to be in eighteenth century costume. pfieffer less so but her ensemble appears dramatic. so i wonder if this image is not somehow tied into the rumored "costume party" sequence.

i'm not sure what "hateful" things anyone could intelligently come up with to say about this picture other than, yes, depp is pale. but we've known that's how he was going to appear for months so i can't see what's left to add to the subject.

granted most people are obviously not as plugged into this project as "we" are but over on FB i'm amazed at how many people are reacting to this picture and word of the film as if it's breaking news. fans of the show in fact. weird. [snow_huh]

these are the episodes where "master" david collins tells off "the help" for smoking while she works...

brilliant!

thanks mb.

honestly i can live without smilies and such but i know the board likes to keep spoilers under wraps so posting without that feature is tough.

thanks again.

i don't know if it's just me but none of the optional posting features...spoilers, italics, smileys...work.

i've tried from both my home and work computers. when i click on one of the options i get the "we request that you not copy" warning but the feature itself does not work.

what up?
I mean, is it really that exciting that Angelique returns for the 13th time?  I really hope in the next issue that the more normal Angelique returns and that the Collins family remembers her for what they knew her to be--like the wealthy housewife of Sky Rumson or Roger's wife (polygamy...)
interesting observation about angelique here...
she does turn up like a bad penny every three or four months when the storyline/time period changes. i'm surprised they're not like "oh, it's you again. what do you want this time?".
heathcote certainly has that doe-eyed and virginal quality moltke brought to the role. and her getup in the cast photograph is about as "ingenue-ish" as you can get.

my only regret is that she does not have the raven hair as her predecessors. still she looks like she'll make a nice addition to the list of victorias.

as we know the actors portraying joshua and naomi do not have any "present time" counterparts...

and nothing thus far has indicated or even suggested that the main 1972 actors will play duel roles with characters from the 18th century.

in fact everything we've heard would imply that the piece is largely set in 1972.

so if a helena bohnam carter character
bites the dust here i think one can safely assume it's doctor hoffman. sorry julia-philes. [santa_lipsrsealed]
that's what i was thinking...

given the perimeters of the character she's rather isolated from the overall storyline. it would appear that there is no need for her to film her scenes or interact with the rest of the cast.

so perhaps it just worked out better for her sequence to be filmed in canada.

This storyline is also notable that a Trask survives it!

few things on the series have struck me so much as filler as the trask/bruno/damien edwards subplot. pure soy protein. it killed a week or so of episodes while frid and company were off making HODS.

in fact trask and chris and amy collins were so peripheral to the plot that my impression of it has always been that they were just finishing out the actors contracts.

yeah it's not exactly what i was expecting storywise either however...
never has a piece of needlepoint looked quite so forboding!
i still have high hopes for the series.

it is getting a bit off-topic however...

i actually liked some of cassandra's frocks too. i'll never forget the image of mrs.roger collins entrance in a boxy mint green swing coat and gloves. and i certainly appreciate her glossy black joan collins hairdo during the period.

still i wouldn't exactly say lara parker looked gorgeous here. but during the 1970 episodes, again especially as the icy antiheroine of parallel-time, she was really something to see. stunning.

i first watched this storyline about five or six years ago...

two characters that loomed large in my memories of it were paula lawrence as hannah stokes and elizabeth eis as buffie harrington. they left a big impression.

so during this second go round i'm surprised to be reminded that both characters barely appear in a dozen episodes. for me they were a bigger "presence" during this time period than those numbers would suggest.

they both disappear abruptly mid-storyline. but what's notable here is that they both survived. during the time travel storylines as we all know those characters specific to the period, who do not need to survive to return to "the present" or to carry on some continuity issues, tend to get pegged off one-by-one.

hannah and buffie just walk away. quite remarkable with buffie considering how embroiled in the plot she was. barnabas just bit her an episode or two before she was written out which is odd because that usually implied a character(if they were not killed outright)would have some major moments in the near future.

but perhaps with the main cast back from the HODS filming by this point they just decided to refocus the storyline and they were superfluous.

gothick if we're thinking about the same scene i recall nicholas actually complements mrs. rumson on her devastatingly chic black ensemble. didn't ang reply that it was he who should be "in mourning"?

in general angelique was never more stunning than the 1970 episodes. in previous storylines she was either garbed in period costume(1795, 1897)or some strange getup in the present(cassandra's greens or her sugar-plum-fairy-from-hell-hostess gowns during her stint as a vampire).

for the 1970 episodes...and in particular parallel-time...ang was exquisitely outfitted.
