OUCH! that's brutal...

still i no longer think it's worth getting upset or defensive about this type of thing. just because we like this show doesn't mean everyone has to.

but this one's harsh. [snow_shocked]

i guess barnabas is the very official "face" of this series.

is no one else to get a cover?

we've been hearing the words "funny" and "black comedy" thrown around for many months. it' nothing new.

i work with alot of people who were DS fans as kids. when i've mentioned that it was being made into a movie they've reacted with complete shock...

so in other words if they were not in contact with a highly devoted DS fan(me), which most people are not, than they would know absolutely nothing about the movie.

they really do need to get some publicity going.

changing gears a bit...

aren't HODS and NODS supposed to be released on dvd at some point soon? does anyone know when?

i've checked them out. i just don't like them.

and frankly including actors from the 1991 series and the unsuccessful 2004 pilot muddy the situation for me even more.

having a different actor playing barnabas, then dragging frid in at some later point. it just seems messy and ill thought out. and having actors in their 70's trying to sound like people in their 30's doesn't work.

the whole thing just feels off to me.

i'm not sure but there might be issues of royalties and legalities in using a living person's likeness.

obviously joan, louis and grayson are deceased. jonathan, lara, nancy and david selby are all actively involved in continued DS related activity so they might have granted their permission to use their likenesses and might be receiving some compensation for that.

in terms of someone like kate or alexandra being depicted, who are not really involved in current DS related projects, who knows if they'd grant the publishers permission to use their likenesses. still it would be nice to see them as well as laura in future issues.

even though maggie had been sent off to windcliff at the end of the series i'm rather surprised, given KLS's shall we say "enthusiasm" for maximizing her association with the series, that the character has not turned up. we'll see. [snow_wink]

as ever the timeline of these alternate DS universes has me mystified...

since angelique's modus operandi is to drive barnabas bananas what the heck does she want with tony peterson? and since nicholas blair destroyed "cassandra", then brought her back as a vampire, who then became model/housewife extraordinaire mrs.shyler rumson, when/how is ang brought back again? and again since the whole "cassandra" disguise was to fool barnabas and vicki there's really no need to ever revive it.

and is this taking place in the 70's? the 80's? none of it makes any sense. it just sounds like a very flimsy pretext to get parker and lacey together in this series. [snow_silly]

the timeline on that reunion would be strange indeed...

since "cassandra" was just angelique in a disguise to trick barnabas, and not an actual person, i can't really see how/when a "reprisal" would ever make sense. since barnabas knows who she really is there would really be no reason for her to revive that guise ever again.

then again these recordings seem to exist in some parallel DS universe so perhaps continuity isn't a concern.

indeed.

at first it felt like the feeling of the OS had been captured. now it's drifting into standard adolescent, comic book fare.

kind of a let down. [snow_undecided]

the plot outline for volume 7 sounds really creepy and gross. [snow_sick2] [snow_sick2]

one thing about this series that is starting to disappoint me is that...

[spoiler]like many variations on the series it's looking increasingly like elizabeth, roger and david are just part of an establishing presence. they're not involved in the plot. it's starting to very much resemble "the adventures of barnabas and quentin". a popular pairing which nonetheless bores me to tears. in that it's reminding me of the gold key comics or the later ross novels. and really, so angelique shows up again for the twentieth time. so what.[/spoiler]

also i really dislike the drawings of angelique in a pink sleeveless dress. visually it doesn't coordinate well with the darker, more 70's look of the rest of the book.

this is only a 4 dollar investment so i don't mind shelling out but unfortunately my interest is starting to drift. this happened with the audiodramas as well. i'm thinking that stuart manning and i have very different sensibilities and wants from DS.

believe it or not ms.cody tried to give me a bit of flack when i called out her error about cooper.

it wasn't until she actually went to cooper's own website and saw the picture and film description there that she was satisfied.

that the people at this board know more about this film than an original series castmember who has first hand contact with jim pierson and is a guest the festival is very odd. she's really shooting blanks. [snow_huh]

what i find astonishing is that our dusty old soap opera, and i mean that with great affection, is being turned into a very big budget, star studded affair and there are those who will nitpick and complain about it to death.

most old television shows get tossed into the  dustbin. and daytime soaps NEVER make it to the big screen. no one is spending 65 million dollars to send the recently cancelled 'as the world turns' to the multiplex. we have a great opportunity here.

who knows. it might be horrible and 4 months from now i might be eating my words but it just might be great.
