it very rarely rears it's ugly head at this fine board but there is unfortunately a gruesome underbelly of highly disturbed people in this fandom...

this film, and of course repeating a film that no one has seen so much as five seconds of, has brought that into sharp relief.

there have been many, many times during this process when i have found myself mortified to be part of it.

1217
is it just me or is it somewhat strange that with just two months left until the film's release we do not even know what KIND of movie it is?

thriller? black comedy? parody? over-the-top soap?

weird! [snow_silly]

i hope you like it too.

i simply cannot tell you how much i hope you like it.

true,

mrs.roger collins was granted a dizzying array of(mostly green)ensembles.

yes cassandra was...or had the potential to be...loads of fun.

but she quickly got sidelined by the adam drivel. it was a wasted opportunity.

i also hated the way the original cast was treated during this time. they were either written into the margins or written out altogether in favor of a cast of disposable monsters.

by the end of the year many of them were gone. [snow_sad]

those who have been at this board for awhile may recall my 1968 diatribes when i first watched it several years back.

i won't repeat all of it except to say it is the one period on the series that i absolutely loathed.

that they let this dumb, boring, stupid character(adam)highjack the entire series for nearly a year infuriated me to no end.

this period is DS at it's absolute camp worst. [snow_sick2]

1222
it would be interesting to know what DS actors were under contract and who was not.

karlen's characters would disappear for months at a time. there were extensive periods when angelique wasn't around. is it possible lara parker was without contract?

soap actors really made the rounds in those day. lots of DS actors ended up on 'the secret storm' and 'edge of night' as well.

wait a minute...

i feel like we're playing telephone. WHERE is everyone getting the idea that the entire family knows barnabas is a vampire?

this feels like an unsubstantiated rumor run amok. [snow_undecided]

1224
it would appear...given the few crumbs we've been tossed...that barnabas and angelique are in close and frequent contact.

and where might this contact be taking place? seems like collinwood. and why is angelique at collinwood?

i really wonder if some type of "cassandra" situation is not in store?

also do we feel comfortable that there is no "old house" and b is living at collinwood proper? we haven't heard anything about it.

good points phil...

everyone keeps questioning depp's "love" and "loyalty" to the OS.

but one can have a great fondness for it and still approach it in a lighthearted way. a camp. a bit of a jest.

it's not like the OS doesn't readily lend itself to such an approach.

and as someone mentioned a dark, heavy, serious approach has not always served the series' offshoots well.

1227
and i'm not really seeing the connection between whether the film is a comedy or not and the production values of the sets and costuming. [snow_huh]

1228
the fashions of the early 1970's practically come with their own laugh track...

gauchos! platform shoes! bell bottoms! leisure suits!

burton and colleen atwood look like they've gone with a light and subtle hand with the costuming. from the few shots we've seen nobody looks stupid. actually everyone looks nice.

so perhaps the parody is not as broad as is being predicted.

1229
i don't think it's really fair to "shame" four elderly actors for accepting a part in a movie. not unless you want to pay their bills.

and this conversation is starting to get hysterical.

i'm with you sara monster...

the hand wringing is growing suffocating.
