there does seem to be something of a composite character happening with vicki...

but it's important to remember that the reason for maggie's institutionalization was her brutal kidnapping and imprisonment at the hands of a very evil barnabas.

here we've been lead to believe we won't really be seeing "evil barnabas". angelique is the story's villain.

so there would be no reason for vicki to be institutionalized in that way. perhaps a jealous/manipulative julia had her committed?

i guess it could be anyone, really.

it's seeming like a totally new story. new precedents are being set. vicki was certainly never institutionalized before. angelique never owned a cannery.

there are totally different ways to edit a trailer.

i wouldn't be surprised if for test marketing purposes one was edited to highlight the comedic elements of the film.

there seems to be chatter of it being promoted almost as an "adams family" type of situation. an eccentric and goofy family residing in a crumbling mansion.

for those unfamiliar with the show that could prove an effective strategy.

the shot of her in what looks like a straightjacket brings to mind that early shot of bella escaping from some ominous looking structure. it's seeming like that was windcliff.

even in the movie poor vicki just can't keep from being locked up.

i'm not that familiar with burton's other works...

but aren't they all to some extent "follies"? whimsical tales with comedic elements?

i mean even if the film is not straight up comedic we know we're not getting 'the exorcist', right? his films are never genuinely "scary" are they?

oh and i'll say it again but the costuming looks like it's going to be absolutely amazing in this.

were we specifically told that there would be a costume party or just that there would be a party? are we just assuming that there will be a costume party (with victoria in the guise of josette) given story precedent?

the pictures of depp and pfieffer in what looked like eighteenth century clothing seemed to further that assumption. also has anyone ever noticed that on DS a "costume party" means only one thing...that everyone comes in eighteenth century clothing. that's it. no one ever comes dressed as anything else.

given the film's perimeters i don't really see room for two elaborate party scenes. i'm thinking the party is just what we're seeing. not a costume party per se but just some sort of "fancy dress" affair. with this being the presumptive alice cooper cameo hasn't it been suggested a party for carolyn?

is this event in the foyer or drawing room or does this collinwood have a proper ballroom?
