true,

when the comic series recently went south(in a big way)that was called into very sharp criticism. no one was scolded.

there's really nothing wrong with controlling one's emotions and maintaining a polite demeanor. i'd be horrified if some of the nonsense one reads elsewhere came over here.

the mere references of "fascism" and "nazis" in regards to a soap opera is indicative of the sort of people who would object to the tone of this board. thank god they stay away.

i imagine that they're just bitchy trolls.

i've been posting here for nearly a decade and have never once had a post deleted. and as one can see there have been MANY differences of opinion in the film threads. many people have made it abundantly clear that they're not happy with the film and their posts have not been deleted.

people mind their manners here. it's really the only safe haven for DS discussions in an otherwise insane internet community.

yes the disappearing/reappearing bloodstains are a mystery...

one can assume that the scenes of barnabas wandering around collinsport in eighteenth century clothing are all from the night of his release. yet in some his face and clothing are covered in blood. in others he looks almost "clean".

i suppose the blood can be removed/added digitally in postproduction. but it seems really random. [snow_undecided]

and does it look like julia is wearing some sort of padded costume to make her appear chunky?

[Moved from topic Re: Depp/Burton DARK SHADOWS Is In Production!! --admin]

speaking of that "hippie chick" recall in the earliest spoilers [spoiler]we heard of a "running gag" of barnabas(or whoever)repeatedly running into a "hippie encampment"?

we haven't seen any of that in the trailers or heard about it anywhere lately. but the idea of a "running gag" is a reminder that the distinct possibility that this would end up being a comedy has been around since day one.

i'm still not sure why we were all so blindsided when it was actually confirmed in recent weeks? [snow_huh][/spoiler]

another thought...

in the early publicity for this wasn't liz described as being "reclusive" along the same lines as the character in the OS?

yet here we clearly see her at the cannery and other off-collinwood locations. did i imagine that?

1146
oh and this is a real stretch but the blond lady in the phone booth looks like the woman roger is seen in an embrace with in the previous spot. [snow_huh]

1147
nice to see vicki and her flip hairdo. all we've previously seen is the unfortunate shot of her in the straightjacket.

the josette figure and her contemporary counterparts have traditionally loomed large in this tale. is she a smaller presence this time around? it would appear that way given the way the marketing is being done.

granted miss heathcote is not nearly as well known as the other four actresses but they're really underplaying her in the promotional material.

btw i like the way barnabas calls vicki and carolyn "my dear". that's the way he spoke to young ladies of quality in the OS.

1148
wow miss moretz is really "it", isn't she?

incidentally a coworker of mine in his early 20's told me moretz is his "favorite actress" and that she is the reason he will be seeing the DS movie.

again i had never heard of her before this project but despite some early objection that she was too young to play carolyn this ended up being a brilliant piece of casting work on someone's part.

I love the new interview with KLS. I am glad she is being open minded.

i could end up being wrong but i doubt that kls...or parker or frid or selby...or for that matter any of the OS actors who come to the fest every year as invited guests and have their expenses covered will publicly have anything but positive things to say about the movie. they are in the end cogs in a larger machine where DS is concerned.

the fest is not just a social or fan event. it is a branch of DCP who's business it is is to keep the franchise alive and hopefully profitable. in a sense, if they want to remain in the good graces of the operation, it's part of their "job" to publicly speak well of this project. privately they might hate it but i'll bet they'll only go on record speaking of it well.

thanks prof,

i'm attending a book signing that she's doing in new york next week and will pick it up then.

given the mixed reaction the film is getting could be a strange event. [snow_undecided]

KLS is really annoyed over the piece and sent a letter to the editor.  She posts extensively on her feelings regarding the article on her FB page.

i'm not sure what all the fuss is about. i read the piece and it's not that unflattering. we've all certainly heard worse.

seems like a tempest in a teapot.

1153
to me the woman with roger doesn't look like any of the main female characters.

some floozy he picks up on the docks, perhaps? a victim for barnabas?

it looks like i was correct in that barnabas funds the restoration of collinwood as well as the cannery. those jewels must turn up.

and the ubiquitous miss moretz is absent too. this spot must have been aimed at an older audience.

1154
i know that these spots are cut-and-paste but in the trailer when barnabas asks willie what year it is there is no blood on his face...

and in this it's covered in blood. [snow_huh]

1155
that is stunningly different in feel than the trailer. if that had been released first we might have seen less outrage from the outer limits of this fanbase.

to digress back to gothick's remarks...

i know what you mean. the OS cast is in a funny way real to me in a way that no other film or television cast is. joan is liz. alexandra is vicki.

yet despite that, and while a comedy is certainly not what i expected or wanted, this appeals to me for some reason.

alot of it i think is casting. when the 2004 series was underway i couldn't get excited about the casting. i couldn't get into marley shelton as victoria. and kelly hu as julia and blair brown as liz were as wrong as any piece of casting i've ever seen. the rest were unmemorable.

yet here bella seems like a charming vicki. hbc looks like a hoot as the good doctor. michelle a standout as liz. the more i see the trailer the more i like eva as angelique. the rest of the supporting roles looks like fun.

and visually, in terms of sets and costuming and art direction, it looks sumptuous.

so, yeah, the "chevy" and other lame jokes fall flat but i'm intrigued about the rest of it enough to still be excited.
