i haven't posted here in years. but this one really stunned me. love to our little community.

i haven't posted in ages but had to express condolences...

her 1966/67 storyline was my personal favorite. i was instantly mesmerized by her languid delivery (and entering in a hat and gloves no less!).

she was also the first one of "them" i ever met in person. at my first festival (2002-3?) she was there early setting up her booth so we got some "unofficial" face time. i had many amusing, if somewhat odd, exchanges with her over the years with her often telling different variations of the same events. once i asked her which of her two storylines was her favorite and she replied she had no idea what i was talking about. as if she had one continuous run and not two short runs separated by two years. the next time we spoke of it she went into vivid detail about how Dan Curtis called her personally in late 1968 to ask her back for the upcoming 1897 period then in the planning stages.

i once inadvertently caused quite a ruckus in the fandom by posting on this page she had told me the next festival (2004-5?) was definitively the "last one". as if an "official" decision had been made by DCP when she was merely expressing her own unconfirmed belief.

an entertaining and eccentric part of the scene and when she began to "drift" away it was never quite the same. X

Covid shut down production of most film and television around the world for months on end. perhaps this attempted revival fell prey.

Calendar Events / Announcements '24 I / Mad Men DS reference
« on: November 17, 2019, 10:24:08 PM »
i'm a bit late to the 'Mad Men' party but i've been watching it on Neflix and in season 5 episode 8 there's a major DS reference...

Don Draper's wife Megan is an aspiring actress auditioning for soap operas. there's a scene of her reading scripts with a friend and although they don't say it by name she's reading about "Burke Devlin" and "Victoria"   and some other 1966 references. for the record she thinks it sounds "silly' and gets a part on a more traditional soap.

definitely exciting news...

but having lived through the highs and lows of 2004 and 2012 i'm going to sit this round wish-list casting, storyline speculation, irrational demands that the 80-something original cast be involved, "Jonathan Frid is the ONLY Barnabas!!!" meltdowns, wails of discontent when this-or-that character is not on the roster, and the usual litany of fandom tantrums, false hopes, and go-nowhere pilot disappointments.

i'll watch it when it comes on.  [ghost_rolleyes]

Santa Barbara at number one? peculiar.

Current Talk '24 I / Re: Same Actors/Different Characters

the waters are a bit murky with the assorted and sundry "Quentins" because they all looked and sounded and acted exactly the same even if they were "technically" supposed to be different people. Selby was obviously given that direction.

they were supposed to 'represent' the same thing to the viewer.

that "announcement" is still going around FB today. i thought it was legit.

9
the setting is perfect for an anthologized series.

the first season characters and premise really didn't lend themselves to a continued story. it wrapped itself up like a movie.

Hello, Dark Shadows Fan,

***** DARK SHADOWS DOCUMENTARY FILM PREMIERE & DS GUESTS EVENT - NEW YORK CITY -APRIL 13, 2019

The film will debut in a special premiere screening in Manhattan (NYC) on Saturday, April 13. The afternoon and evening event also will feature DARK SHADOWS guest appearances - including actors and production personnel, discussions, autograph signing/photo opportunities, a variety of DARK SHADOWS items for purchase, prizes, and an optional dinner gathering for fans and the DARK SHADOWS guests.

This feature-length documentary is narrated by actor Ian McShane, who appeared in Curtis' monumental production of War and Remembrance. It presents rare footage as well as commentary from numerous DARK SHADOWS cast and crew members, network and production personnel, television historians, and others.

SHADOWGRAM UPDATES will announce the location and other confirmed details shortly. The UPDATES also will report further information as available.

Previously, a "sneak-peek" preview of the documentary was held in Los Angeles on Oct. 20, 2018 on the evening of the Hollywood Celebrity Autograph Show, in which several DS personnel participated. (See recent SG Updates).

Marie Wallace has been promoting the event on her social media so se can assume she will be one of the guests in attendance. Donna Wandrey tends to do the small east coast events and maybe Kathyrn will make an appearance given since this is sort of a big deal.

she's only 61. isn't that sort of young for dementia?

the writing for Julia was somewhat inconsistent during this period. she was not fully solidified until after 1795.

i'm confused about the wording for Thursday's event...

a "preview" of the "upcoming" documentary meaning it will be screened in it's entirety here first or literally just a short preview?

of course i want to see it if it's being fully screened.

i'm five episodes in. and while it's a very interesting psychological drama/thriller it's actually not that "scary". at all.

i keep reading about people being so terrified of it they are unable to sleep. why?

it's good. i'm enjoying it as a study of a group of very psychologically damaged people. but it's just not scary.

i just added this to my Netflix list. has anyone here seen it? how is it?
