Current Talk '07 II / Re: The Annual November Juliathon

One of my fave Julia moments is from Episode #627 (November '68). She's at the hospital visiting Joe, and all is relatively calm, until cousin Chris Jennings pops in suddenly. Upon first sight, Julia immediately thinks she's seeing vampire "Tom" Jennings, screams "Tom, nooooo!!!", puts her hand over her face... and Don Briscoe (Chris) nearly breaks up on camera.

Grayson could go from tough and tart-tongued, to tender, to terrified, and back to tough in one scene, and somehow make the run of emotions seem natural (for one living at Collinwood anyway).

Gothick, the episode you speak of is indeed a classic - viva your avatar. I believe Julia's cries for the operator to connect her to the police was a Friday cliffhanger. Wouldn't it have been even richer a scene if - to Julia's horror - instead of hearing the voice of the operator, she heard the voice of Dr. Dave Woodard on the other end of the line!

A belated but beloved wish of birthday cheer and decadence, my beloved Magda! We will speak soon, if not soberly or somberly. Ca va?

Very nice reflections from David Selby on Jane Wyman. She was a hoot on "Falcon Crest" - Jane made you hiss and boo at her villainous Angela Channing on FC, while at the same time sympathize with Angela's ultimate loneliness and bitterness. Sort of how we feel about early Barnabas. RIP, Miss Wyman. You were a great actress. Wonder if she and Joan Bennett were friends??!

Pure genius!
My day is complete. Recommended viewing for all DS fans. Spread the word.

I am grateful that Grayson Hall chose to become an actress. She was memorable in every role she played. Truly she was not meant to become an office secretary or a pharmacist (though Dr. Hoffman's little black bag would indicate otherwise).

Our beloved Midnite!!
Happy, happy birthday, baby... let's pop open the bottle of wine, gather 'round the piano, and sing some songs they featured on the Blue Whale jukebox.  Oh... wait... those tunes were always instrumentals.  Ah, well. Keep on dancing. Hope you're having a wonderful day.

Gothick, baby!
I missed your birthday. Hope it was a very happy one.  I was down at Chris Jennings' cottage, having some grape juice and strychnine. I applaude Claude's "The Graduate" proposal of Grayson as Mrs. Robinson and Briscoe as Benjamin. And Heather's "T/J/B Triangle" was superb and required viewing.

Party on!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NANCY!

From one Gemini to another, ain't it double the fun?! Hope you had a very nice day, and glad to hear you're celebrating all month.  Me too.

Luv, Sandor

Thanks so much for the Jerry Lacy on "Love Of Life" connection, Gothick! Great clip.
And I'm embarrassed to admit, I saw that episode when it was first broadcast! I'd tune in to some "Love..." in the mornings on CBS. The actors on that serial did play over-the-top (like many of the DS actors), which is probably why it appealed to me. Wasn't Jerry Lacy's character having an affair with both the mother, Meg, and her daughter, Cal?! Scandalous. I think Christopher Reeve's character (Cal's brother) was a blackmailing bigamist, and no Superman. And Tudi Wiggins as Meg. She was always fun to watch - much like Grayson. As for those mid-70s fashions.... move over Ohrbach's! Scary stuff!!

Thank you all for the kind birthday wishes.

Love the Jennings Boys puzzle, Heather. The wonderful things a Gemini mind can create...

Well, Dr. Hoffman is about to give me a sedative. I partied quite a bit over the weekend. You'd have thought I was Barnabas seeing sun for the first time in 175 years or something! Well, back to the coffin for now. Cheers!

The other evening I had a rare "I simply MUST watch Grayson NOW or I WILL DIE" evening and I screened the episode with Julia's first "showdown" with Nicholas Blair.  There were some delicious moments where the sly minx with the black bag taunted Mr. Knowitall Warlock.  I just love those sidelong smiles and soubrette glances.

I'm saving for another evening the follow-up scene to this where she visits Blair House with stake in hand and just stops short of ripping Our Favorite Warlock a new one...
Classic episodes you mention, Gothick!  Heather, a belated Happy Birthday, fellow Gemini - hope yours was filled with chocolate and joy.

Now I'm driven to pop in VHS DS Volume 78 - which has the episodes where Julia zings Nicholas, stake in one hand, medical bag in the other.

Midnite,
I believe you're right. I don't have computer speakers to hear her voice, but that face and those eyes... I'm pretty sure that's E.J.! Very good! E.J. Peaker! And I think she was on some ABC sitcom around the time DS was originally popular. She definitely popped up on "Love American Style" now and again.

Good thing Barnabas lived in Collinsport, Maine versus Los Angeles, California... imagine seeing sunlight for the first time in nearly 200 years... only to have it obscured by dense smog!

"No matter how hard she tried, Megan just couldn't wake herself from the terrible nightmare she was having that the afghan on her bed had seen more action than she had!"
