Current Talk '05 I / Re: Favorite Dark Shadows storyline
« on: February 07, 2005, 08:02:13 AM »
I'm with you, Amy Jennings Fan... the Quentin/Beth/Chris/David/Amy storyline is my favorite, though in essence, it only lasted 3 months (November 1968 through February 1969, then it was onto the 1897 story).
It was special because it gave Barnabas and Julia more dimension by taking them outside their own bubble (Barnabas' empathy for Chris, Julia's willingness to help despite her well-founded misgivings). Also gave us a reprieve from Angelique's machinations, offered meaty moments to David, Joe, Elizabeth, Maggie, and even Mrs. Johnson, all of whom were often underused in the Adam storyline.
And of course, it brought back the comely Don Briscoe, and injected new... er... blood, as it were, into the show with fresh characters. Yes, we were scared of Quentin, but as we'd discovered after Barnabas' introduction, we liked the ghouls to stick around so we could get to know and love them better.

I remember Joe telling Chris that Amy went to pieces when she heard that Tom died and had been in shock ever since. Losing someone close to you can be very traumatic especially for a seven year old girl.

Adding to such trauma is when your relatives forget your name is Amy and instead, call you "Molly" (as Joe did in that episode). Chris' character was to be named Bob Jennings. "Bob and Molly?" Book me a room at Wyndecliff now. "Chris & Amy" rolls off the tongue better.

I think "Jeannie" liked Don best of all the officers. Briscoe could sure fill out a uniform. Yowsah! But now, did Barbara Eden borrow that green dress from Cassandra?!

Thanks, Midnite - my day is complete (after I watch that scene again in slow motion.... my poor VCR).

JULIA: This scandalous dossier on Mrs. Johnson's younger days as a stripper in Atlantic City is quite a page-turner, Willie. But the report also mentions her 8 by 10 boudoir photos are included. I don't see them in here.

WILLIE: Uh... maybe David took 'em... no need to check under Barnabas' mattress....

470
BARNABAS: Willie, I'm only going to tell you this one more time.... those method acting lessons from The Roger Davis Institute are a waste of your money!

471
JULIA: Do I or don't I? Only my hairdresser knows for sure... oh, and perhaps Willie knows. He's peeked once or twice.

JULIA: Four more years, Vicki. Four more years!!!

VICKI: Chin up, Julia. At least we live in one of the Blue states.

In regards to brother Chris, she apparently was.... so while her character hadn't been introduced during
Angelique's vampire attack on her brother Tom Jennings, one wonders if little Amy had premonitions of poor Tom's toothy destiny... causing her breakdown, her trip to Wyndecliff, and her meeting Barnabas (which I guess took place off-camera).
Bette-
Your birthday AND Don Briscoe's appearance on "I Dream Of Jeannie" both on the same day! I'm off to buy the champagne now (the good stuff). Have a great day, friend.

Your ever-lovin' SANDOR

BARNABAS: Switch from "Prell" to "Head And Shoulders", Willie. Meanwhile, let me dust off those unsightly flakes.

WILLIE: I tell ya, Barnabas, it ain't dandruff - it's spider dung from that crummy mausoleum!

Current Talk '05 I / Re: Hottest Kisses on DS

Chris Jennings (Don Briscoe) and Carolyn Stoddard (Nancy Barrett) in the Drawing Room after a hot date.... inspiring the avatar photo you'll see to the left of this post (taken from said episode).

No need to pinch Jean-Claude: Briscoe's smooch, as Tim Shaw, to Amanda Harris did happen and was juicy for 1897 standards. Pity she fell for Quentin instead (sorry, Annie...) but it was all about revenge and the money for Tim the kissing fool.

MAGGIE: Governess at Collinwood, eh?! I wouldn't take a job like that unless I'd been bitten by a vampire, lost my memory, lost my blind father, dumped my boyfriend, dated a warlock who sacrifices me on the black altar, and became a brunette! And we know none of that will be happening any time soon...

Robert Rodan and my mom share the same birthday. And my dad kind of looks like Robert Rodan.... it's a family affair!

Poor JC--I have trampled upon your most tender, maidenly feelings!  Where are the Simple Joys of Maidenhood??? I'll have to pop something Briscoelicious and brawny in the post to you ASAP to soothe your understandably jangled nerves!

For that reason alone, I love it when you two break up. Making up usually means the making of a new Briscoe-scrumpdillyicious collage. For now, I'll be content with these rare, outrageous shots of Grayson in "Magoo." Parlez-vous Francais maintenant, Heather ma cherie?

Current Talk '05 I / Re: Dark Shadows endings

I would have had Dark Shadows end by solving the mystery of Vicky's parentage. 8)

That would have been so cool if Alexandra Moltke came back during the final episodes. They'd have Vicki wake up from a long, deep slumber (a la Bob Newhart on "Newhart" or Victoria Principal on "Dallas") and exclaim "the last few storylines never happened... I just dreamt them! It's still 1968 and I'm late for my wedding to Jeff." Then Barnabas and Julia would enter Vicki's bedroom, explain that Jeff was crushed by a falling urn on the terrace, but to keep the day from being a total loss, Barn & Julia got hitched instead. The end.
