Laugh all you want, my dear DS friends, but that zombie Sheriff Davenport, as a kid (watching this episode back when it originally aired), gave me the willies.... and I don't mean Loomis! I truly had nightmares during the Leviathan era.

A very, very Happy Birthday to you, Bette. Dr. Hoffman left a sedative for you, just in case you party too hard tonight, and require bed rest the day after. Enjoy!

Current Talk '10 I / Re: Julia's way with words
« on: January 09, 2010, 07:17:16 PM »
I enjoyed Grayson's characters hurling some good barbs or uttering some memorable quips in that great voice of hers:

Julia reacting to Nicholas Blair's latest fiendish scheme: "That's monstrous!"
Julia responding to Barnabas' exclamation that Dr. Lang can help make him "a free man": "...Or a dead one!"
Magda to a cursed Quentin: "You have no future!"
Julia, again to Nicholas Blair: "I'm glad that Eve is dead, and as far as I'm concerned, she can stay dead!"
Magda: "I only like Gypsy music."

Sometimes I got the feeling that old storylines or written-out characters were not referred to again in future scripts - because whatever was going on in Collinwood at that moment was so confusing, it was all the characters (and writers AND actors) could do to focus on the present.

Calendar Events / Announcements '10 I / Re: Joan Crawford Was A DS fan?!
« on: January 06, 2010, 03:46:15 AM »
And to imagine Joan Crawford, determined at all costs to be seated in front of her TV set every Monday thru Friday at 4pm on ABC, no matter what else was happening in her life at that moment, so she could get her daily DS fix. Love the image!

Pity no one has ever unearthed the videotapes of Joan C's week on The Secret Storm back in 1968 (other than, as Gothick mentioned, the re-creation of its dark-but-hysterical moments in "Mommie Dearest"). Perhaps they just don't exist, or Joan had the only copies (a gift from CBS) and promptly burned them!

Thank you, Mods, for year-round DS pleasure! A happy New Year to you.  [8_2_76]

RIP, Conard Fowkes. I'm old enough to remember him from "Hidden Faces" (where he was one of the good guys) and on "Search For Tomorrow" in the 70's, where he played a murderous snake in the grass. So when I finally got to watch early episodes of DS in the 90s, I was surprised, pleasantly, that Conard had appeared on DS, and portraying a nice guy - which he obviously was in real life!

A rapturous Happy Birthday, Julia99 - I lit an orange candle in your honor the other night - it continues to burn bright.

I think I heard somewhere that Haza and Oberon were negotiating a deal for a reality TV show.

The Leviathans Next Door (home makeover edition)!

Hey, Dawn-
I'm way behind on these, but if you're like me, you're still celebrating, right? Hope that your summer is like a getaway in Maine (avoid Collinsport, naturally). Happy belated birthday, friend.

Love, Sandor

Hope you had a Shadowlicious birthday, Nancy, my fellow Gemini.

Sandor says 2 thumbs up for Honey West. Anne Francis (Honey) was also the tortured young woman amongst the department store mannequins in that classic Twilight Zone episode ("Marsha! Marsha!"), so she radiates the same kind of B-movie dementia that our DS stars so often do.

And speaking of them, caught both Lara Parker and John Karlen in back-to-back Kojak episodes recently (the DVD is out). Karlen was especially good as a junkie, and Lara was nice in her scenes with Telly Savalas. Enjoyed Kate Jackson on Charlie's Angels, and even The Rookies, but never cared much for her as Daphne on DS. Probably because I was loyal to KLS and Alexandra Moltke as the resident dark-haired ingenues.

Annie! Dom! Julianka! Midnite! Bette! Gothick! Thank you for the good wishes.... but I think I'm finally older than Ezra Braithwaite (and I don't mean in 1897 - I mean as played by Abe Vigoda!!!).  [ghost_mellow]

The birthday well-wishers are the best bunch. Well, I'm off to watch Tom Jennings bite Julia, or maybe watch Tim Shaw do a drug deal with Magda.... after all, it's my birthday.

Love, Sandor

Grrrrreat caption of Magda/Grayson, MB! You could tell by these episodes that Grayson was so ready to sink her teeth into this fun and juicy new role, after much time playing the put-upon Dr. Julia Hoffman. Episodes featuring Magda were always entertaining, but she sure did get manhandled quite a bit throughout 1897 (by Quentin, Barnabas, and later Trask, Petofi and King Johnny among others).

I too am on the fence about committing to the entire 1897 saga, but perhaps it's actually a great time to escape to the past (the 19th century), since the real world seems scarier by comparison.

And there's always the theory that since Maggie resembled the beloved Josette in appearance, Barnabas just couldn't bring himself to do away with her as Sam appeared on the scene.

Thank you for the Cavada updates, Gothick and Midnite. Madame Findley was a personal favorite of mine. Bet she was sorry she ever entered that crazy place known as Collinwood....
