Current Talk '05 I / Re: The "Gak" Factor Of Roger Davis
« on: March 17, 2005, 05:16:58 AM »
Roger Davis' characters never did much for me, but I had a personal encounter with the actor-turned-real-estate-developer at a DS Convention a few years back, and here was my take:
a group of us from Grayson's Legion were waiting in line for the Sunday night banquet to begin, and Roger Davis wandered by into the empty dining room. Moments later he emerged back in the lobby, and I thought, "Sandor, you love Don Briscoe - whose shied away from these conventions - and Roger was a good friend of Don's. Go over and ask him a few questions about the beautiful Briscoe. Roger will either be a jerk because you're not asking about "his" career, or he'll be forthcoming. Well, Davis was extremely polite, candid, and thoughtful about  memories of Don (who was still alive at the time). I had newfound respect for Mr. Davis... up until he showed his incongruent real estate video to the dropped jaws of DS convention-goers. I wish he'd intercut it with shots of Dirk Wilkins' final moments in the crypt. And this is the guy once married to lovely Jaclyn "Charlie's Angels" Smith?!

JULIA: Now, Maggie, there's no shame in your having watched "That Darn Cat" over fifty times... I'm partial to that cute little film myself...

CHARITY: Oh, where's my "Inner Pansy Faye" when I need to channel her?! I want to ta-rah-rah-boom-dee-aye with that bookish stud Tim Shaw.

MAGGIE: I see a repressed school teacher on an ill-fated bus tour through the jungles of Mexico... I hear her yelling "Seducer!"...

MAGGIE: I...I see myself in a car at the Collinsport Drive-In with my boyfriend Joe... we're watching some strange B-movie about a sardonic chain-smoking nightclub owner named Pepe... she's insisting someone wear a girdle... she's brandishing a riding crop...

J-C,
May the sexy, soulful spirit of Briscoe bask you in birthday splendor, as you blow out the candles and break out the bubbly for a deserved celebration. Julia has a sedative waiting for you, if you end up needing one in the aftermath.
Best wishes,
Sandor

ELIZABETH: (in her best Janis Joplin-meets-Widow's Hill voice) ...Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose....

MRS. JOHNSON: (thinking to herself) I knew I never should have taken this woman to Woodstock!

Do Kate Jackson and Cher have the same plastic surgeon?  :o

Barnabas and the Jennings boys head to the Blue Whale for a night of casual drinking... where suddenly, Bob the bartender announces the bus carrying the Bangor Bengals (a professional male mud-wrestling duo) has crashed! Bob was counting on the revenue from tonight's event to save the struggling pub from financial ruin.
Just then, Barnabas suggests that Chris and Tom strip to their skivvies (both happen to be wearing tight briefs that night) and take the place of the missing wrestlers. After Chris admits he and his brother were both stars on the Collinsport High wrestling team, the Jennings boys dutifully jump into the mud ring for a no-holds-barred smack and tumble.

Each person's memory of a unique TV show that's still fun to talk about all these years later. Oh, and Don Briscoe.... and Grayson Hall... and Frid, and Alexandra, and Joan Bennett, and the stories, the music, the suspense..... ah, heck, what's not to love?!

Chris Jennings' last episope
 >:(

I couldn't have said it better. I still have issues with the writers letting Chris and Amy simply disappear into the ether, when we'd invested such time and concern in their plight. Just to have Julia comment, "Ah, Barnabas, isn't it great how Chris and Amy moved to that cute ocean-front split level in California, and can enjoy a full moon now, without fear of excess hair growth and visions of pentagrams?!"

JULIA: It's a collection of plays written by Tennessee Williams. I'm particularly drawn to his "Night Of The Iguana." Talk about a bunch of screwed up characters thrown together....

Current Talk '05 I / Re: Dr. Woodard's last episodes
« on: March 08, 2005, 08:11:46 PM »
Just last week, a friend played me the DVD of "Muscle Beach Party", that 1964 Frankie Avalon/Annette Funicello beach party romp, and who should I see as one of the co-stars but.... yes.... the 2nd Dr. Woodard, PETER TURGEON!
Don't worry, folks, he wasn't clad in a speedo, or flexing his muscles on the beach. He played the annoying nerdy guy who (for reasons escaping me) spied upon Frankie and his teenage beach gang. I kept waiting for Barnabas and Julia to show up on the sand with a hypodermic needle, to put the dweeb out of his misery.

After drinking too much sherry and port at Professor Stokes' home - where a tasteful game of three-handed bridge degenerates into a raunchy round of strip poker, Barnabas and Julia stop off at the Collins mausoleum, where Barnabas slyly suggests, "I've always wanted to do it in the secret room!"
In the sober light of day, the insatiable couple realize their overdue passion was not just the result of alcohol abundance, whereupon Julia slyly suggests, "I've always wanted to do it in the gazebo!" And off they go...

All aboard, folks. Heather, Countess, Jean-Claude and Gothick are conducting our non-stop scenic train ride from Collinsport to Smutville.... (and as long as Briscoe is involved, I'll buy a ticket)
