Current Talk '05 II / Re: Cassandra and Julia's relationship...
« on: September 26, 2005, 10:34:26 PM »
I found it interesting how during their first encounter (Julia bandaged up Cassandra's 'sprained' ankle), Cassandra/Angelique immediately picked up on Julia's feelings for Barnabas. She later remarks to Roger, "I think she's (Julia) in love with him." Wonder if that made Julia an instant enemy in Cassandra's mind. Did Julia make her feelings that obvious in that scene? I wonder....
More catfights between Julia & Cassandra would have made for some great TV... but alas, we just got more of Adam in his trusty green sweater.... sigh.

Chris:  "Julia, what we had together was special, and I'll never forget it.  But my heart belongs to Gothick, and by Gothick's side, I must be."

Um, J-C, that would be "my heart belongs to Sandor, and by Sandor's side, I must be." Gothick can resurrect Tom Jennings - but Chris is spoken for.  Even Julia says so.

Excellent, FireRose! When the powers that be finally get around to releasing this classic on DVD, yours is the design they should go with for the cover of the DVD box.

The 2 consecutive episodes I'd pick would be from the "Quentin/Beth haunt Collinwood" storyline from early 1969 - specifically where Prof. Stokes performs an exorcism on the house, and the next one where Quentin drives the family from the mansion. In just those 2 episodes, the virgin DS viewer gets to meet:
Elizabeth, Roger, Carolyn, David, Barnabas, Julia, Chris, Quentin, and Prof. Stokes.

I have a t-shirt with Chuck and Zira kissing. .

I have neighbors who look like Chuck and Zira when they kiss...

Thanks for the link(s), Gothick - Grayson Art is always a pleasure to view.

JULIA: Come now, Amy - tell Barnabas the truth - how when you walked in on Chris and me tonight, you simply mistook my helping to adjust Chris' belt loop as a sexual advance.

AMY: That, and your hand grabbing his tush, Dr. Hoffman.

Calendar Events / Announcements '05 II / Re: Donna McKechnie Mention
« on: September 01, 2005, 04:29:03 AM »
Best place to catch Donna McKechnie is on old episodes of "Hullabaloo" - she was the front and center go-go dancer - so while many feel she was strident and pointless as Amanda Harris on DS, Donna could do a mean shimmy and jerk.

BTW, anyone ever notice the similarity in looks between Donna McKechnie and Kathryn Leigh Scott?

Current Talk '05 II / Re: Ep 564/565 Question

Wonder who was better in the sack - Tom or Chris? Any ideas?

J-C or anyone in the know - question:
were Grayson and Ava Gardner good friends beyond "Night Of The Iguana"?  I can imagine while filming in Mexico, the two divas swapped stories, bummed cigarettes from each other, and commiserated on the off-camera goings-on with Liz & Dick et al. Any true anecdotes known to support this fantasy? They were so dicey in their scenes together...
Just caught Ava Gardner in an old episode of "Knots Landing" from 1985 - right around the time our beloved Grayson passed away.
"Squeezing more scathing irony out of a simple line reading than just about any actress alive, Gardner wraps her tongue around every syllable and tilts her head back to savor the flavor. On 'Knots Landing' she makes the innocent question, "Doesn't anybody carry cigarettes anymore?" sound like the most insinuating of inquiries."
Hall & Gardner: soul sisters? Get ready, Norfolk!

CHRIS: No bathroom in this cottage?! No wonder I'm hittin' the woods every chance I get!

JULIA: (in her smokiest Marlene Dietrich voice) "Falling in love again.... can't help it... can't help it..."

BARNABAS (voiceover): Dear God! When Julia said she wanted to give Tom a *final* farewell, I had no idea that THIS is what she meant!

Guffaw! Chortle!! Though Julia probably didn't need an audience in the mausoleum - and was she still under Tom's spell, or did she just go with her impulses?!

Current Talk '05 I / Re: Leviathans *POSSIBLE SPOILERS*
« on: June 25, 2005, 03:13:48 AM »
I enjoy the Leviathan sequence for bringing Grayson Hall to the front-burner again. Rather than pine and sigh over Barnabas and continue to play his second banana, Julia moved on to other mysteries (the return of Quentin, the discovery of Angelique, the desperation of Chris Jennings, the odd behavior of Elizabeth towards Paul Stoddard). Julia never seemed more liberated than when she and Barn were on the outs, plus she got to wear lots of snappy non-tweed Ohrbach's numbers that actually flattered her.
As a kid, I "borrowed" one of my mom's knick knacks that resembled the actual Leviathan box, and I resisted entering rooms where I'd hear heavy breathing on the other side of the door (viva my parents' sex life in 1969)! The Leviathan period did have its perks and influences.
