Polls Archive / Re: Favorite 1897 Moment - Poll #5
« on: December 03, 2002, 12:32:43 AM »
Thanks, Dom, for the interesting polls.  One of my favorite 1897 moments not included was when Quentin learns that he one day haunts Collinwood as a ghost in 1969!

What a shocking revelation that must have been, especially hearing that an unyet born member of the Collins family would be at peril due to his ghost.

Castlebee, I'm so very sorry to hear about your Mom.  Smoking is a terrible and stupid thing to do to yourself, but when your hooked, it's not easy to quit sometimes.

I smoked about a pack and a half for close to twenty years.  In '93, I came down with a severe case of asthmatic bronchitis. Even though I could hardly breathe, I continued to smoke.  Finally I realized the idiocy of it, so I quit cold turkey and never went back.

We're also in the process of having our Walmart converted to a SuperWalmart, and it's behind schedule.

Your Walmart sounds like Collinwood in 1995!

The great thing about Super Walmarts, Bernie, is that you can get almost anything you need/want there. They have a bakery, pharmacy, deli, and a bank inside, plus groceries, DVD's, CD's, Tv's,  computers, clothes, books, a garden center and auto shop, (you can have your oil changed while you're shopping).

Sounds like my kind of place to shop!!  I hate having to make different stops, and waiting in line just isn't my idea of a good time.  I'll bet you even may have internet kiosks at yours.

Our Walmarts are supposed to be converted to supers too, and that should be nice. When I worked nights, I used to go shopping for groceries, sometimes at 2 or 3 in the morning, and I loved it!

As far as Christmas shopping, it's definitely gotten easier since the internet!!   :)

Since the show isn't on right now, I thought it might
be fun to share some of our DS favs with each other.

I'll go first, but I really want to hear everyone
else's! (please?) If you don't have responses for some
of my categories, hey, just skip that one and do the
ones you would like to respond to.

Interesting questions, Rhonda!!  Here are some of mine.

ALL-TIME FAVORITE DS MOMENT:

Willie taking off the chains was my favorite too. Another was when Roger came face to face with Quentin's ghost! Quentin's ghost and Ezra Braithewaite was a keeper too.

FAVORITE OH YUCK, THAT WAS AWFUL, BUT CAN I SEE IT
AGAIN? MOMENT:

Jeremiah as a ghost/zombie!!

FAVORITE GHOST:

My favorite ghost was Quentin Collins, second favorite Gerard Stiles.  My least favorite ghost was Sam Evans.

FAVORITE I DIDN'T LIKE THEM AT FIRST, BUT THEN THEY
GREW ON ME CHARACTER:

I'd have to say Jebez Hawkes here! I never really liked the character, though it did improve slightly with time.

BEST CLUELESS IN COLLINWOOD CHARACTER:

Any version of Maggie would do here!

FAVORITE STORYLINE OR PLOT:

1897 is my favorite storyline.

WORST STORYLINE:

I think Leviathan was my least favorite. Never should have been written.

FAVORITE VILLAIN:

Quentin in 1897.

WORST COUPLE:

Judith and Gregory Trask, or PT1970 Quentin and Maggie!!

FAVORITE COUPLE:

Chris and Carolyn.  I wish more had been done with this after the return from 1897.

CHARACTER YOU WISH THEY HAD USED MORE:

I would have liked to see Petofi in 1970.  The Count's fate at the end of 1897 was pretty much left up in the air.

THIS HAD ME ON THE FLOOR LAUGHING MOMENT:

Barnabas searching for his lines!! Harder to come by than his beloved Josette!!!

FAVORITE DS BLOOPER:

Julia!! Remember............someone!!!!!

Great questions!!  Thanks for posting.

I recently rewatched House of Dracula (actually, re re re re re rewatched would be more like it) that also dealt with this issue, explaining vampirism as a "peculiar parasite" that could be isolated and treated.  Actually, it bugs me that this last installment in the Universal monster rally had a simple explanation for all the creatures' problems, but I digress.

I liked John Carradine as Dracula too, although the character by this point was rather weak and dumbed down.  I'd still prefer Lugosi, though.  As far as Larry Talbot goes, I thought he was finally cured at the end of House Of Dracula, but I guess the thrill of getting to work with Abbott and Costello caused a relapse!!

I may be wrong in this Bernie, but I think Lugosi seemed
to enjoy his tongue in cheek role in the A & C movie.
He looks like he has a hard time not cracking up in places.

Well, I wouldn't be surprised.  Lugosi was certainly a different person than he was when Dracula came out, in 1930 was it??  Unfortunately his career seemed to be downhill from there on out.

I just hope that this isn't a sign for worse things to come! :-(

Those were my thoughts exactly!!  The fact that they're changing the air time isn't a good sign either!!   :(

I love all those Universal monster movies and
especially enjoy the Abbott & Costello meet
.....whoever movies. Just watched A & C meet
the Wolfman last night.

Although I too liked the Abbott & Costello movies that involved the Universal monsters, it kind of bothered me to see Chaney and Lugosi play second fiddle to A & C!!

It WAS good to see Lugosi back as Dracula, though.  I liked John Carradine to a point, but there was no replacing Lugosi!!

I guess Chaney's Wolfman would be my favorite too, with Karloff as Frankenstein a close second.  I also liked the mummy Kharis, although I must admit part of the reason is for comedic value!

Roger was his usual "blockhead" unbelieving self. Loved it when Quentin appeared to him! Afan

This is one of my favorite DS scenes!!  You have to give the pompous Roger credit, though.  It takes him a while to get it, but once he does, his reaction is usually profound.

I'd have to go with Mrs. Johnson as well, although I was LMAO when Julia called her a repressed hysteric!!
