Current Talk '05 II / Re: kls in "gatsby"

Back on AOL, a few years back (and I think one is still actively going) we used to have a DS Sim game, which is where people create a character in keeping within the Dark Shadows universe, and then role play in situations set up by a game master. With all that said, we did a great storyline set in the 1920's including Nora Collins (also an adult by now), Quentin, and my creation, Gabriel Collins III. It was the era of Alistair Crowley so I played Gabriel as a confident of Crowley, and for that matter the Castatvets (from Rosemary's Baby). We had Satanists, Leviathans, gangsters and lots of fun. I would suspect any DS revival series could well incorportate a '20s storyline.
Nice bit of trivia, the house where Gatsby lived, which is set on Long Island, is actually in Newport not far from Salve Regina aka Collinwood. It is called Rosecliff. Newport is a great place for DS fans to spend some vacation time, and definitely take the evening haunted tour.

Sorry I had missed this original thread. I've been really busy since we got back from California, straight from vacation into a week and a half of volunteer work in addition to my regular job. But, I really enjoy the volunteer work, the congregations here in Richmond VA rotate a shelter for homeless families and its our week. In the past when we've had single adults we have run some (requested) horror films at night including Hammer films and House of Dark Shadows but with small kids we can't run anything scarier than say, "Haunted Mansion" or "Ghost and Mr. Chicken." They have watched the original Wonka twice tho!
Like most of you, I hope we get surprised with a few extra on the DS '91 DVDs.

The Digital Bits website has an announcement that the 1991 Dark Shadows revival series will be released on DVD this fall. The set is currently scheduled for 10/18 and will be 3 discs. Here's a link to the page...
http://www.thedigitalbits.com/mytwocentsa107.html#1943     Look for the 8/8/05 entry, below the "King Kong" release information (which will probably be of interest to many of us as well).  :o
I picked up volume 1 of the 1991 series on VHS at this years show to see the longer cut of the '91 pilot. It was better than I had remembered it, not having watched it for a few years. The box will be a nice supplement and somewhat unexpected. The SRP is $39.95. The only bad news is that no extras are listed.  :-  (What no screen tests for Joanna Going? No commentary by Sam or Matthew Hall? I'm sure Ben Cross had SOME bloopers!)

Thank God it's going back to NYC for the 40th Anniversary.  As a Staten islander, the Brooklyn location is even more suitable than the Marrriot Marquis in Manhattan.

I hope that for the Anniversary, at least one of these DSF holdouts will finally show up:

Alexandra Moltke
David Henesy
Kate Jackson
Sam Hall
Dan Curtis
Here! Here! I like NYC too because I can drive up (from Virginia, s' not too bad) and that's much easier than toting all those collectible purchases through the airport these days!  ;D Diane and I will almost certainly be there, it would have to be someting pretty extreme to keep us away. And next year, I hope to see you, Charles Ellis, there too. You are always entertaining, you superfan!. Its only you and KLS who keep Johnny Karlen straight.  ;)

;D Absolutely delightful fest, although Diane and I were so busy the whole week, that I wish we had had at least one extra day! I will try to write a full report soon. Let me just say my fest highlites included finally getting Robert Rodan's autograph on my 1968 cast photo, meeting Jerry Lacey for the first time, hearing Chris P. read his new comic book  ;D, the Joan tribute, and the dinner Sunday night with several other friends and posters from the board here. The worst parts were missing the pilot and the Darren Gross restoration panel, almost not getting Robert Rodan's autograph, and not having enough time to just hang out  :-[.
Having the fest in Hollywood was a great change from the Airport! Everything you immediately needed was nearby. I definitely had great fun in the days around the fest too. But that's another story...

Back soon, I hope

Barnabas: Willie, please, just polish the silver candlesticks with the blue candlles, don't worry about the bug pink candle. :-X

Okay Julia99,
Â         I sent one for you. I stated many of us would be buying the DVD mainly for her appearence and that her fans should not be underestimated.  ;)

BTW The trailer for Night of the Iguana is on the DVD for "The Man Who Would be King" as its also a Huston film

Good to see this topic back. I would enjoy saying hello to other posters. I usually wear a white t-shirt with the Blue Whale (the Blue Whale in NC actually) on the back as well as a navy polo shirt I got from the old Griswold Inn aka the Collinsport Inn at the show at some point in the fest. I'll add "CyrusL" under my name on my badge. I'm usually found next to my wife whom I met at the '98 show in Vegas. My wife says I have an accent, but that's because she's from Maryland. I can't scan in a picture now as home pc is not working. (too bad I'm looking at a photo of Diane and I with Jonathan here at my desk taken at one of his Hofstra shows.)

I guess its one of those, you can tell you are a DS addict as you plan your vacation each year around the festival.  ;) Last year we went up to Boston and Salem after the show, and the year before the pilgrimmage to Newport, so there is a Dark Shadows theme to the travels.  This year, we are coming in early and leaving a few days later to catch Hollywood and all the places nearby. Anybody know how to get to where they filmed Planet of the Apes in Malibu?  ;D

Dark Shadows is brought to you today by, "Nervine", for relief from the day to day pressures of nervous tension headaches... and by Oxydal, new and improved, makes your wash cleaner than ever before.
