Diane's and my experience at the Black Pearl/Blue Whale was very good. It was just after the 2003 festival and we were not the only Dark Shadows fans in that day, as we could tell from the convention shirts other patrons were wearing. Our service was very good, the food especially the chowder was good, and our waitress acknowledged without any condescension that many DS fans dine there. I thought the lobster was pretty good. Maybe we just had a luckier day. Pricey, yes, but we expected that in Newport, which by the way has one of the best Ghost Tours we've been on as well.   [Ghost00]

It would certainly be unusual....but my husband would never stand for that painting hanging  in our house, and I know of at least one other husband around here who wouldn't either...... ;)

Not to be boastful, but I am glad to have married another Dark Shadows fan, as Diane and I did hang a portrait of Barnabas above our fireplace in the den. Its the one that was by the company that did the early 90's gim cards, and pretty nice if not an exact replica of the show's. I told her I would however one day replace it when I can afford to have her portrait painted as Josette like the one from the Old House.  ;D
The Angeique PT portrait reproduction btw hangs in one of our hallways as well

Current Talk '06 II / Re: MPI isn't all that bad...
« on: August 08, 2006, 06:37:07 PM »
Overall, my experience with MPI has been very positive. As we agree, they are a niche video company and have been very good to Dark Shadows and other Dan Curtis productions over the years. We do have to allow they are a smaller company, so you're not going to get the $14.99 double features you might get at a major studio DVD line. I likewise appreciate the efforts they have done in quality mastering the lines, with of course the noted accidental edits on one of the early DVD sets. I also have had very good relations with their telephone and mail order areas. I would note they have had good deals on the VHS at the shows over the years, but I am not aware they ever did any discounting in the DVDs at the shows, at least never when I've asked...
I do wish to clarify that not all of the Bobble heads are available to non-club members. While anyone may order the Barnabas, Josette or Werewolf figures have been offered to all, the bobble heads for Quentin and Angelique are (or were, they may be gone) only available to "club" members.

Current Talk '06 II / Re: Worst DS Memorabilia?

I hope this isn't considered runor...
I have  been told (on one of the festival tours to Lyndhurst) that the canes used on the show were purchased at a shop near Carnegie Hall, that actually will custom size them for you. I was told that several were purchased from there throughout the course of the series, and as of that '90s, they were still in business.  I would not be surprised if they are a licensed distributor of the German cane Castelbee is describing.

Jonathan had many fans come backstage after a performance of one of his one man shows and Arsenic and Old Lace and freely admit they did not see the one man show or the play. They just came backstage forthe autograph.  He still signed what was asked of him but he was less than thrilled the fan had no interest in seeing his new work.

I have such a regret about missing that show, but I wasn't long out of college and funds were tighter then. Especially as since then I've met Larry Storch and Marion Ross who both spoke highly of the production.

Robert G.: Thanks so much for your support! So it's agreed, if there's a strike, none of us will cross the line!

(For those of you who remember DS's production history  ;) )
