Those one-way conversations got boring after a while.

They should have had a cardboard cutout of a switchboard operator or at the very least a voice on the other end saying, "One moment pl-lease".

Collinsport Hotel – WHO IS AT THE SWITCHBOARD???? The place is empty!

So many complex characters in this show. Right now the most baffling to me is Carolyn. What does she want out of life exactly? She loves Joe, but isn’t ready to settle down. I can see that. She’s too young. But she needs to quit leading him on.
She urges Vicky to find out from Mama what her story is, who hired her, etc. Then Carolyn turns around and throws Vicky under the bus, telling Mama that Vicky is making inquiries into why she was hired. Carolyn wants Vicky to stay, she wants her to leave. She’s enamored of Burke Devlin. I don’t know. I’m lost and we're only on episode 9!

…buy stock in your organization, I mean as long as I’m going to be your best customer, why not?

Fill in the blank:

Burke: So I took the ball of dough, rolled it out, put some ________ on it and shoved it into the oven!

Vicky: Please go on. Your story is gripping me!

875
Fill  it:

Sam had a habit of kissing the front door when he came home from _______.

I find it amazing now that Joe will be earning a whole $25 more per week!   [ghost_grin]

Does anyone know what a "checker" did/does in the fleet office?

Yeah, I thought 25 clams was quite a raise myself. That's a hundred a month!

Joe is a checker - a small, round disk that sits atop a board of red and black squares. Crown me.

Miss Hopewell's big grin is a bit creepy.

Oh, I think she'd make a dandy prison matron. Yikes!

Love the outside shots filmed in Essex!

This what I truly love about DS. And... Cousin Lydia was kind enough to send me her spare DVD collection 1. Love it.

Love how Vicky pulls the string on the overhead lamp in the basement and the light source comes from somewhere else, BECAUSE THE LAMP IS DEAD! Next scene with Matthew, there's a bulb in the lamp and it is glowing. Shades of things to come, folks.

Liz and David - Now I know he is the last of the Collins men and that Liz hopes to mold him into the next master of the house, but watching these episodes, you can see that she genuinely loves this kid. And watching JB working with DH, I get the feeling that JB must have been a wonderful, caring mother. I hope that's true.

Fill in the blank:

Vicky: Hmmm… Somebody highlighted this paragraph on page 79. ‘We were docked near the House of Frivolities. Miss Wanda was always more than friendly. And although some of the men had contracted ______ during one of our stopovers, we never allowed it to spoil our American voyages.’

WELCOME, MATTHEW MORGAN!

Or at least Matthew Morgan the First, George Mitchell. He did the best Down East accent of anyone except Thayer David. Again, it's interesting to speculate on how Matthew's character would have developed if Mitchell had stayed on. He does a great job with Matthew's back story--you can almost smell the "stink" of the cannery.

You know, I see him in so many other things. He's always popping up somewhere. Today I was watching The Twilight Zone, and there's George Mitchell again! Fine actor.

Vicki was more that upset to discover that the Collinses were serving fishcakes and gruel for breakfast!!
