Now it seems as if Burke just eventually goes out with all women he hangs out with for long enough, in a sort of knee-jerk way.   He's not even after sex necessarily.   Maybe he's just sort of lonely and naive about consequences, but does that sound like Burke?

I don’t see Burke as being naïve about anything. I think Laura put some sort of spell on Burke or at least enchanted him in some way.

Lotsa stuff happening in this episode. Bravo to Vicki for standing up to Burke. She’s adult here, speaks her mind, and she’s not backing down. Too bad she becomes such a dimwit later on in the series.

Burke to Carolyn: We've had good times together, some of the best times I've ever had in my life.
He’s either lying or he must have had a pretty dull life up until then. He’s telling the truth when he says they were never right for each other. Yessir.

Fill in the blank:

Bandaged hands or no, Sam was desperately attempting to applaud Roger's rendition of ________ .

First appearance of "the pier"...?  The world of the show is slowly broadening....

Yeah. I remember that scene when I had these on video tape. I don't have the rest of this plot on DVD :(

Looks like Liz has her mind set on Laura not being good for David. Roger will squash that, if he has anything to say about it.

Maggie’s at the end of her ropes with Sam’s drinking.

What’s with the necktie on Sam? What, did the Blue Whale slap on a cover charge if you’re not wearing a tie?

Maggie vents to Joe.

Laura may not know why Sam keeps painting her in flames, but she certainly intends to stop it.

My God, Janet, that's ... MONSTROUS.

*feline smile*  It is meant to be!

Are you sure you aren't related to a certain Nicholas Blair?

Heh, heh, heh...

When I was a kid, I hated that kind of patronizing on Sam's part-- the cider and cookies diversion.   Good for David, saying that it didn't answer his question... he caved very soon though.   Bet it was alcoholic cider!   Sam probably doesn't know there's any other kind.

I wondered about it being hard cider too!

So what is Laura anyway? Is she a ghost, a phantom? She seems to be solid. How can there be two lockets? And how does this Phoenix creature have all of Laura’s memories? It makes me think of the Night Stalker episode where the guest creature could take on any human form.

Definately the most confusing storyline.

A Mayonnaise, Boiled Dinner, and Indian Pudding taste-testing competition, juried by a panel of Mrs Johnson impersonators.  Mrs Johnson would reserve the right not to taste any mayonnaise that doesn't "smell fresh."

Yes! I would love to be a Mrs. Johnson impersonator. I would substitute Miracle Whip for mayonnaise. I am evil that way.

So Vicki was compelled to bring the painting home with her. But she was hesitant about showing it to Laura and David. Why didn’t she just tell them that the painting wasn’t appropriate for young eyes, a nude or something?

It bugs me that nooooooobody can figure out whose silhouette that is. Come on.

Wow. How long has Sam been at the Blue Whale anyway?
Sam: There's an old, battered hulk on the beach, half in the water, half out.
(I wonder if that was me?)
