Current Talk '06 I / Re: James Hall & John Karlen
« on: November 18, 2006, 02:00:49 PM »
In an interview about his role as Willie, Karlen described the experience as "a FEAST of emotions"  :)

The look in his eyes and the tones of his voice as he reminisced were like those of someone recalling some the best times of his life...

I spoke with the Old Man last month. I wanted to tell him how brilliant I thought his ressurection of Willie is on the new CD's - the radie plays. I mean I was really floored that he was able to play Willie so perfectly after all these years. I asked him if he'd been watching some of his episodes to help him remember how he played the character and he said that he hadn't. I persisted and told him that I was amazed that he played Willie so well. He exclaimed, "My darling, I AM Willie!"

Had'nt heard it. Sad news.
Jack Palance always scared the heck out of me when I was a kid. And get this. I remember waiting weeks to see his TV portrayal of Dracula only to be pre-empted by a speech by Nixon. EW!!!
I think it was that movie anyway. May have been "Night Stalker".
It's been many years...
Anyhow, I will toast Mr. Palance tonight accordingly. He was a fine actor. Made several spaghetti westerns.
Here's to you, Jack. Loved your portrayal of the bad guy in that silly Billy Crystal picture and even more-so - your push-ups on-stage at the Academy Awards some time ago.

B: Don't be ridiculous, Julia.  You need a tissue, not a crystal decanter to catch a sneeze.

ROTFLMAO!!!!!

Har, har, har! "Tis amusing that Willie and me can sip your booze at no expense all because we can do an Irish jig better'n you!
Make us merry, me lad. The booze flows freely!"

Current Talk '06 II / Re: Burke Devlin....like him or hate him?
« on: November 03, 2006, 02:02:38 AM »
As I am currently watching the 1st season, my opinion of Burke Devlin is this:
I love Mitch Ryan's portrayal of Burke Devlin. He is suave, debonaire, and ruthless. I love the interplay between him and Mrs. Stoddard - power against power. And that power absolutely corrupts power. Howz that go? Anyhow, I would have loved to seen Mitch Ryan grill Barnabas about his past and his affection for Vicky. I am sure Ryan would have played it much differently than Anthony George. Ryan's Burke Devlin would have hired his stoolies to look into Barn's past. And I doubt he would have been so insecure as to wonder at Vicky's love for him.
I also would have loved to see RM play Jerimiah. It would have been a good twist. I would also love to have seen more interaction between Mitch Ryan's Burke and Willie. Mitch Ryan would have roughed Willie up a bit, where as George's Burke was just an interrogator.
Yep. Mitch Ryan as Burke Devlin rules.

What I remember about this show...

I wonder what day it is?
Oh! It must be FRIGHTday!

Why that stands out in my head is anybody's guess...

"The Return of the Vampire" had a wonderfully spooky graveyard set in the film.  I wonder if the Dark Shadows set designers were inspired by that highly-underrated Bela Lugosi film, when they designed the Eagle Hill Cemetery set?   [hall2_smiley]

It's pretty interesting how Armand Tesler is unearthed in this picture. Like a graveyard is a vital military installation to bomb. Cracks me up every time.

"Andreas, you are a fool. A complete and utter fool!"
