In Kate Jackson they finally found the good Alexandra Moltke replacement they had needed for so long, but too late to do them any good.   She could have been a great Victoria Winters two years earlier.

EW! I can't stand Kate Jackson. I hate the 40 parallel, Quentin, thing. YUK!

Current Talk '08 II / Re: What were they thinking?
« on: September 12, 2008, 01:29:48 AM »
My personal fave eps, besides the ones with Pappa Karlen, are the early black and whites. I often say that I grew up in a black and white world - television and my relationship to the world revolved around Mister Ed, Dennis the Menice, and Ed Sullivan - all viewed in black and white. I love the Bill Malloy story (and am sorry that character didn't continue on), the Laura story, and the Jason/Liz thing. My earliest recollection of DS is when I was eight or nine. coming home to watch the show after school and my mother ironing in her bra because it was too hot out. But anyway, I think the Laura storyline is good, the Jason/Liz thing is good, Willie and Barn are good. So how did these storylines include Josette? I personally think that the writers had an idea in mind, but weren't sure where to go with it. But, but, but, but, but...I think they found their niche when Barnabas came along. DS reminds me of the Epstein Brothers at Warners. They had no clue where Casablanca was going to go, they just went along with the flow. And I think that's where the natural writing and acting talent does its best. My humble viewpoint.

I thought the kid was fed up with the crummy storylines and hi-tailed it out of Dodge. I know I would have. Mr. Henesy started out as the main Damien Omen character, thus had a lofty part and mega dialogue. "When the moon rises...when the sun comes over the mountains...when the...oh, to heck with it."
I think David Collins was at his wickedest when he
tried to kill his old man by removing the bleeder valve from the breaking system. And how about the time he locked Miss Winters up? And how about the crystal ball business when he declared all his relatives were about to die? What a kid.
After playing such a mean spirited child, and then reduced to a mediocre ghost watcher, I'm sure DH's mama had no qualms about pulling the kid out of his contract, if indeed he had one.

Current Talk '08 II / Q for el Presidente...
« on: September 09, 2008, 12:19:40 AM »
I don't know about you, but I would sooooooo vote for Quentin for president. Selby makes a convincing Hallelujah sermon- giver. Yeah, hallelujah! Though he doesn't get Willie's name correct, I would vote for him anyway.

Can anyone tell me what she is like at the Festivial if you have had the chance to meet her.  I don't hear much about her either.  I know she hasn't attended  I think since Craig Hamrick  passed away.  I had heard they were close.  So has anyone met and chatted her up a bit?

She's a very lovely lady. At one of the Fests I attended, I happened upon Marie Wallace in the ladie's room. She was quite gracious, even as I stood there with a trail of TP on my heel.

I think it stinks. But that's just me.

I watched House Of DS last weekend. There was plenty of incontinuity. Is it me, or did MGM leave several reels on the cutting room floor as they did with Night?
My best wishes to Darren Gross. Finding lost footage is a nightmare, particularly when the major studios won't cooperate. I've been involved in a push to get Universal to release several "B" movies from the 40's. No dice. If they won't make money, why pursue them? That's the studio's take on this issue. That's why they make all those remakes. For example: Gilligan's Island was a gold mine in syndication. Let's make a movie! $$$$
I don't even go to the movies anymore. I come home and switch on Turner Classic Movies and unwind. Or I pop in a tape, and I have hundreds of them, and watch Reptillicus ruin the Denmark nation, or Lon Chaney make love to Gwen Conliffe in front of - what may still be standing in the Universal lot - Conliffe's Antiques, Vasaria.
I have the highest respect for Darren. And I can't wait to see his restored version of "Night". He has worked hard for this. I'm sure we will all enjoy it.

Current Talk '08 II / Re: julia the liar (could be a spoiler)

Oh, Liz was plenty bright. She was suspicious of Miss Hoffman right from the start. I suspect Liz didn't follow through because she had so many pressing issues going on at the time. Jason, Buzz & Carolyn, a strange cousin wanting to lease the Old House...
But Liz is plenty sharp. She knows the score.

Willie, whenever he bent over. His pants were tight, most likely due to the fact that JK loves good food.
But, believe me, I honestly don't know how he got into those black pants. YOWSER!

Well, you know I've read that MS Hall was up for an Oscar for this picture. She damn well should have won. She was wonderful.
I thought it was one of the weirdest pictures I'd ever seen, but it was a good movie.
Magus - your video is in the mail. I hope you enjoy it. Give it a chance. It took me about to the end to enjoy it fully.

old man karlen meaning john karlen?   are you a relation?

No, I'm not related to JK. Just fell into a friendship with him, although he reminds me of my papa very much in some ways.

Good catch! FMC frequently airs "Race with the Devil" with our Lara Parker. You can see John Karlen in several televison venues; All in the Family, Rockford Files, The Waltons, and of course, Cagney & Lacey. Old Man Selby has appeared in several televison shows and major motion pictures. Kathryn Leigh Scott did a Star Trek Next Gen episode. These actors are all over the place and they shine. Gotta love em.
