Current Talk '08 II / DS DVDs Barnabas Unleased
« on: October 22, 2008, 09:18:35 AM »
I recently made the plunge and bought a DVD set beginning with episode 210. (Alas, our video tapes have begun to croak on us.)
Anyway, are they supposed to be so dark? There's a scene where Carolyn and Joe are in the Blue Whale and all you can see are their faces. What gives? Anybody else have this issue or is it just me? I was hoping the quality was going to be much better than this.

I'm thinking that Burke was probably 15 years older than Vicki, but she was certainly more mature than Carolyn. The relationship between Vicki and Burke works for me.

I remember behaving like an idiot at that age. Go, Carolyn!

I believe Jason taunted Vicki about her past because he knew that poisonous barb would hurt her. He probably knew nothing.
The idea that Liz would have messed around with the butler doesn't jibe with me. I like the thing about the soldier. That would make more sense than anything else.  Then again, you never know...

When I saw this post, I thought you all were talking about the ep where Willie discovered Barnabas. I must have missed something. But when I was sweet sixteen, Channel 56 was airing DS nightly. I fell in love with Willie and Barnabas all over again. We made fun of Miss Hoffman's hair and Doc Lang's foolish whims. I have no recollection now, or then of Barn being staked. So fill me in, will ya...

When I was a kid (sixteen being a kid, now that I am elderly), I watched DS on a local cable channel in Boston. Channel 56! I don't recall that it was broadcast on any PBS station. But I have this to say; PBS introduced me to Monty Python, and many other crazy comedies and outstanding films, Caesar & Cleopatra starring Claude Rains & Vivien Leigh, et al. I have supported PBS in many of their drives, particularly when they have had guests such as Peter, Paul and Mary, John Denver, The Bee Gees, etc. To watch any of these presentations can be a nightmare because of the many interruptions, but PBS brings many, many outstanding shows and information to us. Selby and KLS are helping to support the PBS stations and kudos to them. The amount of info that public broadcasting brings to us, and the quality that they do, PBS deserves high alcolades, IMHO.

There was a DS Fest there shortly before. I remember the huge palms in the lobby of the twin towers, the vendors that sold us T-shirts and sunglasses, and damn good coffee and bagels. I remember John (Karlen) helping the fire fighters, and giving them support, and all the many friends I had that were shocked at what had happened - including myself. Bless them all. Bless them all, friends.
