Calendar Events / Announcements '03 I / Very OT/FIV
« on: February 09, 2003, 12:23:45 AM »
Hello Everyone,
A few months ago I posted that we had lost our cat Pooh to a diabetes complication. I had so many nice responses and a few mentioned that when the time was right   God would send another 4 legged friend my way. Well, guess what I found at my doorstep a week ago. A very lovable but quite dirty and hungry kitty. The poor fellow ate 6 cans of food in one day. Anyway, today I brought him to the vet ( and you can imagine how attached I am at this point) and although he is healthy, he tested positive for FIV which is similiar to HIV in humans. My dilema was what to do at this point. Here I have this 1 yr old kitty purring in my arms as the vet tells me his results. I have another cat at home who is negative and that was the dilema. After some thought I decided to go ahead and keep him and the vet said the chances of my other cat contrating is remote as long as he does not get bitten by the new cat. We have to keep any eye on them but since neither is agressive it should not be a issue. Right now my new kitty is being "fixed" and declawed ( I know some may not agree with that but the vet said it will cut down on chances of transmission if they fight)
So am I a complete idiot or what. I have such a soft spot for animals and the thought of putting the little guy down just killed me. I actually bit my nails off making the decision. If anyone out there has any FIV cats please send me a private message here and let me know how you deal with it. I don't want to clog up the board with this but would be interested in hearing some others stories. I am interested in holistic treatment also.
Thanks for listening.

Current Talk '03 I / Re: When do YOU watch your Dark Shadows?

I  tend to watch TLC's Trading Spaces ( when Doug & Ty are on ;-) ) and I like some of the shows on the History Channel, Discover and Travel. On a regular basis I try to catch Will & Grace, Friends, Buffy but this season I have been kind of lax on watching but I just bought a really nice wide screen television so maybe that will get me back in sync.

And here I thought it was all part of her Method acting ...

BTW, are you the former Teresa (whom I know) with a slightly different name?  Has anyone else on board changed their name?

*******

Yes Vlad, it is me Teresa. I am on a Bruce Springsteen fixasion right now and have changed my name to Teresalita in honor of the Bruce song Rosalita. Bruce is one of my favorite people. This past December I have passed the 80th show mark for concerts of Bruce. Not a day goes by that my friends ask me if I am going to another Bruce show. Nothing planned right now but I hope to see him again in the early spring.

I'd also be interested in hearing from anyone who has digital cable. I have a cable box that allows me to get premium channels but recently I bought a new tv and dvd player and was told I would get the best quality picture with digital cable. The cost is slightly for digital where I live.
Here is somthing bizzare with my VCR. After I watch a movie and forget to turn my VCR off, there are a few stations (including sci-fi) that come in speaking spanish. Once I turn the VCR off it goes back to normal. Anyone have suggestions on this??

Related to this, does anyone else think Diana Millay mumbles?  I don't usually have too much difficulty understanding anyone else on the show, but she doesn't seem to enunciate and also has odd emphases and ups and downs in her delivery.

Yes, I notice it all the time. In fact, at this past October's Halloween party, I sat down next to her to talk about her trip to Romania and not only does she mumble but she speaks very quickly. I found myself just nodding alot. It must just be her natural way of speaking.

« on: December 30, 2002, 01:40:42 AM »
Thank you all for your kind words. We had Pooh cremated and will pick him up tomorrow. Some people think we are weird but my sister and I have a shelf downstairs dedicated to all our animals who have passed on. Their urns sit on the shelf with photos and small items that remind us of them. I think I will miss Pooh the most in the summer time. He would come out while I gardened and sit by my side. But I know he will be there next summer in spirit.
It is kind of funny but it seems all the neglected, stray animals seem to find their way to my home so I am sure God will send another when the time is right.
Happy New Year to all of you and if you are out driving be safe!

My wish for 2003 would be peace first and then I would wish for some things for myself :-)
I have a few wishes and resolutions going on right now and I plan on working very hard to make sure they happen.
On a sad note, my year is not ending well. Our beloved cat Pooh died unexpectantly yesterday after becoming ill on Christmas Eve. He was a diabetic but had daily insulin shots. We took him to the vet Thursday and he said he had water in his lungs and gave us medication. By 7:00 am Friday he was having seizures and passed away as my sister pulled into the parking lot at the vets office. He would have been 6yrs this year. We will miss him greatly as he was quite a good companion and brought us great joy.

Calendar Events / Announcements '02 II / Re: SNOWBOUND IN THE NORTHEAST!!!

Well, we didn't get quite the amount they kept threatening all day long but at least I woke up to some white stuff. Last night I was driving home from a party in sleet that turned to ice which wasn't a good experience. I think my house has about 1 inch on the ground right now but it keeps snowing on and off. I know areas within 2 hours of us got up to 10 inches.
Hope everyone is having a great holiday today. Tomorrow I go back to the gym!!

I was at a holiday party last night and we were talking about how nice Indianapolis is. I've visited there on several occasions and was quite impressed.
Best wishes for a wonderful holiday filled with special memories. Tomorrow night I am getting together with work friends for a happy hour get together and then we are taking a carriage ride around downtown. It should be fun as long as the rain holds up.
Peace always,
Teresa

Wow, that does sound quite tasty. I was wondering if you could use soy milk in place of whole milk. I have a problem when I consume whole milk and it sounds like skim just wouldn't get the same effect.
I am glad to hear you are well Vlad. I myself don't get to read or post as frequently as I used to ( at least at this time of year) and it's nice to see you back.
Happy holiday cheer to you too!

I'll add my "ditto" here too. Thanks for everything, it has been a fun year here.
PS- To Connie: That photo would make a great holiday card!
