What a great surprise that must have been.  Keep us posted if she pops up in another episode!

These new casting announcements should appeal to WB's demographics.

And please let any sets be similar to this shot of the Great Hall

Yes, oh yes ...

Especially the great hall ... the exterior actually reminds me of several houses along Mt. C_____ , a street I lived adjacent to and used to walk on almost daily for years just for shere aesthetic pleasure ... but anyway, the great hall has some wonderful touches that would be much in keeping with Collinwood:  in addition to the old world-style portraits and art objects, the mounted deer heads would not be out of place in backwoods Maine I should think.

Interresting story Vlad, I was thinking about the "Subspecies" movies as i read this article.  they touched on these beliefs/heritage and were beautifully filmed in Romania.

It's funny, when I read the article I thought: "I think I'll stick to fictional depictions of vampires ... ".  This was just too grisly!

The only thing I had come across that touched on real-life Romanian practices was the introductory chapter of a novel called "Diary of a Vampire" (which began very promisingly but went downhill in the last half).

I had no idea what "Subspecies" was about.  A quick check after your mention of it showed that a movie called "Vampire Journals" which I had caught the last hour of on TV (possibly Sci-Fi) and then found inexpensively on video is by the same director.  Don't know if it fits in with the Subspecies series, but I thought "Vampire Journals" was quite good -- very atmospheric and had a good modern-day vampire "look."  Had forgotten that it was filmed in Romania.

That's strange, I went back into the above post to modify it by adding a further comment.  A bit later now, I went back to re-read what I wrote (  ;D ) ... and the part I added isn't here!  I'm sure I clicked "Save."

Anyway, I just said something else about Chris Pennock, about how I was surprised by his restrained performance in "Frances" (the only non-DS work I've seen him in), and that I wish I could see this stage production.

And now, I think I've about reached my posting quota for the day ...

My mom sent me this article from a Knight Ridder newspaper on modern day vampire practices in Romania.  Here's a link:

TV Land would seem like an obvious choice, even moreso than SoapNet, IMO.

Would like to be informed here if there are any reviews.
Gotcha, Vlad.

I meant to ask a bit more politely, BTW, something along the lines of, if you happen to see any reviews, and if it's not too much trouble, could you possibly post a link?   :)  Don't mean to take your beyond-the-call-of-duty efforts for granted.  :) :)

MB, I'm amazed you would remember that -- I'd nearly forgotten myself.  Can't say I truly enjoyed the experience of struggling with Frontpage ... although I would like to some day create a webpage for Welsh actor and playwright Emlyn Williams.  As for the actress/director I studied/worked with, I actually haven't been in touch with her since she moved to New York City a few years ago, although I later came across some highly favorable reviews of productions she has directed there.

A Tony Award winning actress?

As I said from the start, that casting director is no slouch.

If true, how wild is it that the pilot should begin shooting on the same date (April 2nd) that the original DS aired its last episode on ABC? I love that.

No such thing as a coincidence ... ? ...

As for Julia, Liz and Joe - they may have been cast and it simply hasn't been announced yet (Alec Newman's casting as Barn has yet to be reported in Variety, for instance) - or they may simply shoot around them until the roles are filled.

I'm still holding out for Jean Simmons, despite the fact that they gave her almost nothing to do in the 1991 series (then HODS gave Joan Bennett nothing to do, either).  Of course the "targeted audience" isn't likely to have any idea who Jean Simmons is ...

But then, we who saw the original series in the 60s - 70s ... probably didn't know who Joan Bennett was, either!

Following the links from the theater's page, I'd say that's quite a website for a "struggling actor."

Not to mention the theater's webpage -- not exactly slacking.  Do all L.A. theaters have this level of marketing?  Someone I know (formerly with the Royal Court Theatre) is artistic director of a theater in NY, and you can't even find anything about her or the theater on the web ...

It would be interesting to see a DS actor in a stage performance like this.  Would like to be informed here if there are any reviews.  It would have to be better than the last "Hamlet" I saw (Royal National Theatre tour).  Guess I'll have to put in my Ethan Hawke version DVD this weekend ...

$24?!  How awesome!!  Congratulations!  Where did you find it for such a great price?  Are there any extras on it?  I haven't seen any listed on the outside of the package.

Mary, try putting Critics Choice Video into a google search.  I don't know if we're supposed to promote specific businesses here, but this price won't come up in a bizrate comparison.  I've had excellent service from this company for years.

No, there are no extras on the DVD.  It would have been nice to have had some cast interviews.

Do not go by amazon customer's reviews who say the picture and sound quality are terrible, especially on the first disk.

To the contrary, I found the picture quality excellent and the sound superior to most of my movie DVDs.

Regarding "Forever Knight," I just wanted to mention that -- besides savoring this on its original late night run on CBS -- I discovered a couple of weeks ago that the first year has been released on DVD.  It's very pricey, but I shopped around and was able to buy it for $24.

Whether the second and third years are released on DVD depends on sales of the first set.

I had to check this out for myself after seeing your comment.  It's really too bad -- many of these kids feel that "their" show has been yanked in order to be replaced by DS, which they view as a dinosaur.  I wonder if their threatened boycott will have an impact -- they are the constituency the WB aims for, from what we're told -- not us older DS fans.
