Testing. 1, 2, 3... / OT<HTML Course/Question
« on: March 29, 2006, 01:32:31 AM »
Alright, so the local HS is having a 3x course on "Intro to HTML". Sure, why not. I'm wondering what exactly I'm likely to learn. BIIIG disclaimer: I live surrounded by 5 large retirement communities, so frequently when you go to one of these, it tends to be, "How do I turn on my computer" (I kid you not).

Now, I can't imagine MB knowing what a HS night course is (perhaps a non-accredited college night class??) nor Midnite, but, they do know HTML (right?). Plus, I know I have other knowledgeable cousins who could perhaps tell me what to be listening for (yeah, you Bobubas & Connie & Mark Rainey) :D

(Okay, what again is HTML? I mean, I sort of know it's a 'computer language', but is it becoming 'passe'?)

Thanks alot,

Patti

Current Talk '06 I / Old Soaps
« on: March 24, 2006, 08:26:07 PM »
Was actually home by 11am with NO KIDS, finished scrubbing my kitchen floor, enjoying lunch of shrimp fried rice & pizza. I see Ryan's Hope was on SoapNet...so off I clicked..

Now, I don't believe I watched RH past 1977. Funny thing, I immediately knew Seneca & Jillian. This made me think of some of our cousins who were old enough to watch DS first time on air ;)

Here's a question, and I'm not sure if I'll phrase it correctly: Could 'they' (SoapNet?) air say One Life to Live from 1972? How about soaps which aren't on air anymore (besides ABC soaps, I'm not certain, but Secret Storm & Search for Tomorrow come to mind).

I mean I like OLTL, but I believe SoapNet airs it like 3 times per 24 hours (and don't forget the marathons on the weekends).

I would love to see some older soaps, just for pure entertainment. In the case of OLTL, it would be great to 'relive' my childhood.

As long as we're asking....can't they show DS??  :'(

from Luciaphil's Idle Thoughts
Quote
All Liz can come up with is the storm cellar (note that there's no basement at this point in time).

Were there storm cellars in Maine in 1966? (Actually, in mid 1700's, because that's presumably when the Old House was built.)

Basements, yes, but storm cellars? Does anyone know this about New England architecture?

Thanks & we love Luciaphil :-* ,

Calendar Events / Announcements '06 I / Beware!!! The Ides of March!!
« on: March 15, 2006, 01:14:52 AM »
Okay, since it's on the DS calendar, I'm going to admit I don't really know what the Ides of March is....(Julius Caeser killed then perhaps)? If so, was he killed by Willie Loomis, or perhaps the part of Nathan Forbes which is currently floating by my screen (yes Gothick, it makes me think of you sweetheart!!)

Could we make a loose DS connection?

Cheers!

Current Talk '06 I / I'm STUFFED! Eps 807-823
« on: February 26, 2006, 12:26:37 AM »
I randomly popped in a tape...eps 807-823!! (Guess I forgot to change my tape). Interestingly, the commercials (which really are fun to occassionally watch) stated a sale for President's Day, which of course was just a few days ago!

The first 4 eps were very fast moving;
JamesonisPetofi,
hand, hand, who's got the hand, Edward, Edward,
I love
Louis as the 'man's man',
I miss Joan Bennett. Then...someone mentioned Tim Shaw had come back to Collinsport...ugh!!! I then remembered who he was with....AAAAHHHHH!!!!
Funny, I hadn't really noticed PETOFI's inability for giving clear 'visions'; I vaguely remember the scene w/Barn seeing ?current (1969)? time, while PETOFI thinks Barn is seeing his own death.
He gave Beth a perhaps clear vision, but then also boo-booed with
Charity who then becomes PANSY!!!!
Poor Magda.... :'( Grayson really deserves kudos for her acting in this story arc.

Yes MB, your pal Roger Davis was in more than a few scenes...yes...he did try (and was successful) in touching hair....
Poor Barnabas...locked in the 'box'
About half way through these eps, I realized I wasn't seeing TLATKLS; I also wondered if Olivia Harris was a knock-off....does anyone know? Because the way Olivia was dressed and hair coiffed, she did bear a resemblance to KLS.  Also sadly missing in these eps was Lara Parker (did I mention JOAN?  :'().

There were a couple of scenes with Denise Nickerson, which is always enjoyable. I like
when Jamison is calling Nora Amy, and Nora is calling Jamison David, oyevah!!!
Actually, the first 2 eps (807/808?) I noticed that David Henessy seemed to be having trouble with his lines; he was stiffer than his normal self and seemed to be glancing at the teleprompter (IMHO).

So fun....

Current Talk '06 I / oh that was so good...Eps 390-400
« on: January 29, 2006, 01:11:34 AM »
Absolutely nothing on TV, which made me actually grab some tapes!!! 1795, I haven't watched probably since 1999? run. Once upon a time, I might have said 1795 was my favorite, but after seeing whole run, it's good, not superb. I started watching just where CHOsette declares Jeremiah is going to die. There were things I hadn't noticed before; I didn't notice how long Jeremiah 'lingered'. I specifically didn't notice him bothering Angelique. It seemed like they had a good idea w/Jeremiah 'haunting' Ang, and her not being able to put him back to his grave....but after 2 eps, I don't see him anywhere. Ick ick ick....Abigail. I hate her worse than Trask (aw, comeon, it's Jerry Lacy :-*  :-* ). After 4th ep....Vicki!!! Long time, no see (last tape I had seen, it was fauxposerwannabeickyVicki. So seeing A.M. was nice. Then....SARAH!!! I reallly hadn't seen Sharon Smyth(sp) in about 6 years. Boy, was watching 'Naomi and Joshua' so very enjoyable. And, I can't decide if I prefer Sam-the-town-drunk 'regular guy' to Andre's bon-vivant 'swell'. (That could be a poll.)

pssst...I saw  :-* Joel Crothers  :-* in 1 scene...asking Barn if he 'had to' marry Ang/if there was a question of 'honor'...hyuck hyuck hyuck

Well, I took 3 count 'em 3 tapes out....don't know if I'll watch 'some other unknown tape' in a while.

Patti

PS...it would be nice if someone in the know could post ages in 1795 (taping) of actors. I'm interesting in what real age Louis Edmond was to Jonathan Frid and Joan Bennett (since they're playing his parents).

Current Talk '06 I / Ep 153
« on: January 26, 2006, 10:08:03 PM »
I see the screen cap for ep #153. I remember the 1st time I saw it, with the Detective saying how he had 'so much forensic proof...' I was very suprised that there was forensic evidence circa 1966!

Can you imagine! what would happen if this occured now circa post 9/11 & the dawning of the age of no privacy! Seriously...I wonder what would happen...they'd.....hmm...

Calendar Events / Announcements '06 I / John Karlen Movie Question
« on: January 17, 2006, 09:19:55 PM »
Has anyone seen the movie, "The Dark Wind"?

It's a Tony Hillerman novel (can't remember if I've read him), looks like Robert Redford was the executive producer.

John Karlen plays Jake West.

Thanks,

Patti
