There's a podcast from Showbiz Tonight on the CNN web site whining commenting about the amount of sex in several current series, including Tell Me You Love Me. Clips include footage of David Selby and Jane Alexander from the show:

Remember, kids, the Internet is for porn. That's why the Net was born.  [hall2_grin]

Today's edition of Charleston, WV's Saturday Gazette-Mail includes an interview with David Selby to publicize his upcoming book signing:

Calendar Events / Announcements '07 II / David Selby Book Signings in WV
« on: October 16, 2007, 02:48:28 AM »
This is sort of late-breaking news because Selby's schedule has been a little hectic, but the appearances have now been confirmed. He'll be doing two readings/signings in West Virginia next week: one on Sunday in Beckley and one on Tuesday in Charleston. Full details are posted on DavidSelby.com.

Although on second thought, given this IS the Boston Herald, I suppose one shouldn't really be surprised they felt they had to throw that in.  [hall2_rolleyes]
CBS Sunday Morning ran a story this morning on a recent study of sexuality among seniors. It makes brief mention of TMYLM, and it's arguably a better piece of writing than the BH piece.  [hall2_rolleyes]

There's an interesting piece in today's Boston Herald by one of their columnists: "Sex Doesn't Get Old for HBO's Seniors".

In anticipation of the opening of David Selby's newly revised play, Final Assault, at the Players Guild Theatre this coming Friday, the Canton newspaper published an interview with the playwright:

As the article notes and as previously noted in this thread and in SG, Selby is scheduled to appear on opening night to meet and greet fans.

Uh, no.  While it's absolutely hysterical to picture him that way most likely Barnabas wouldn't have been caught dead (no pun intended) in a leisure suit. I mean, the man rarely even took off his tie when he wore a smoking jacket.
Sorry, but to say that Barnabas would never 'change with the times' is a bit ludicrous.   [hall2_rolleyes]
Quite a few men escaped the 1970s without ever donning a leisure suit, particularly those whose tastes in clothing were on the conservative side, which I think is what MB was getting at here. I don't think he said Barnabas' clothing would never change with the times. Even conservative styles of dress change slightly with time. I haven't seen enough of AN's DS wardrobe to comment, but Ben Cross, while he did sport a slightly more casual look than Frid, was still pretty conservative. Most of what he wore on the show could still be worn today without generating much attention.

Once again proving the adage that "sex sells" - or in this case, brings in substantial enough ratings - even IF the sex being depicted sometimes involves the over-60 set.  [hall2_wink]
Granny porn.  [hall2_grin]

I was commenting to a friend recently that I think the reports of low ratings during the actual initial episode broadcasts (also mentioned in the article) shouldn't be surprising with this particular show. I suspect that a fair number of viewers watch it on demand or watch some of the later rebroadcasts. If you've got kids at home, 9:00 pm on Sundays is probably not the ideal time to have this on in your house.

The Hollywood Reporter indicates that HBO has chosen to renew Tell Me You Love Me for a second season. David Selby has a recurring role on the series. No information about the shooting schedule or start date is provided. Click here to read the story.

Current Talk '07 II / Re: Can Watching DS Improve Someone's Vocabulary?
« on: October 02, 2007, 04:41:44 AM »
I'm working my way through the series at a snail's pace, and I was just watching Ep. 619 in which Julia confronts Nicholas. I neglected to watch the credits to find out who the writer was that day, but Julia said something that struck me as very non-DS diction. She announces that she must have a "showdown" with Nicholas. I felt like I was watching the run-up to a Wrestlemania event.  [hall2_grin]

As a friend mentioned, he and Harrison Ford are the same age, so the problem the media has is likely in the pairing of the former (Selby) with a woman his own age and not the latter (Ford) with women 20+ years younger.  Clearly, it does not consider HF an old man, or LucasFilm would not have cast him in the final adventure of Indiana Jones.
Your friend is terribly astute.  [hall2_grin]

Ok, I have to admit that I did laugh at that, but only because the show is supposed to be comedy/satire. It's the people who say the same stuff completely seriously who scare me.
