David Selby will play the role of Abraham Lincoln in The Heavens are Hung in Black, a new play by James Still commissioned to celebrate the grand reopening of Ford's Theatre in Washington, DC and the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's birthday. Previews begin February 3 with performances through March 8.

For additional information, please visit the official David Selby web site.

She played Liz Foster when they got into the issue of who Jill Foster Abbott's mother really is.

She is absolutely amazing in a brief role as Esmerelda, the bearded lady in the circus train, in Alfred Hitchcock's Saboteur.

Current Talk '08 II / Re: TV Guide's "Moments That Spooked Us As Kids"

The show is about one particular character. That character is Quentin. Everything that came before him was just to prepare the way.  [hall2_grin]

For the next week, the LA Theatre Works production of Tennessee Williams's Summer and Smoke with David Selby will be available online through the KPCC web site:

The style of the piece and the citation of his degrees made me think it was published somewhere, but I saw no citation on the site.
No citation because (a) it was published on Selby's site first and (b) it's his intellectual property and does not require a citation. It was submitted to multiple publications. Whether or not they choose to publish it is out of Selby's hands, but he can control what goes on his personal site, so he made sure it at least appeared there.

This has now been published as an op-ed piece in the Sunday Gazette-Mail in Charleston, West Virginia:

Since I opened this can of worms, I should probably clean it up.  [hall_wink]

Without going into specifics, I had been led to believe by someone in a position to know that Selby was not fond of photographs during the reading/performance segments of his appearances.

I asked for some clarification on this point and received an answer this morning from an absolutely unimpeachable source. Photographs are fine.

If no announcement was made, then I wouldn't worry about it. That's the responsibility of the bookstore personnel or Selby's publicist to clarify before he begins.

But wait... John in NC tells me that if you book now through the Marriott's website, the regular room rate is $119 per night or $116 if you're a AAA member.  Exclusive discount, *cough*
Looks like the $119 rate on the web site requires prepayment of the full room charge. The AAA rate doesn't.

Actor and author David Selby (Quentin Collins on Dark Shadows, Richard Channing on Falcon Crest, and Arthur Foster on HBO's Tell Me You Love Me) will discuss and sign copies of his novel, Lincoln's Better Angel, in Las Vegas on Thursday, October 30, at 7:00 pm.

Barnes and Noble Booksellers Summerlin

Las Vegas, NV 89117

Lincoln's Better Angel was inspired by an event the author read about in the Washington Post. The story he creates reflects on the personal impact of war and historical perspective.

A walk with President Abraham Lincoln and Vietnam veteran Charles Huggins through Washington, D.C. on a hot Fourth of July night becomes a walk through history. Layering time, grief, humor, and fantasy, Selby presents a story that is both moving and engaging.

Lincoln's Better Angel is published by Mayhaven Publishing.

Some fan photos from the signing:

Apparently, the announcement was not made to take photos during the reading/performance segment or else it was ignored. Not having attended, I can't comment.

The episode did air on Monday night. It will be rebroadcast on Saturday, September 27, at 2:00 pm Eastern. It should be available for viewing on TNT's web site beginning Monday, September 29.

A tip regarding the web site: I've had no luck with viewing video from the TNT site in Firefox. It demands that you install a plugin, and the plugin never seems to install properly. This is one of those rare instances when I would recommend IE.

From what I gather, the bowling alley didn't look much like a bowling alley until it was restored for There Will Be Blood, so the DS crew probably didn't have to do much to it.

Now I'm picturing Ben Cross and Barbara Steele in those awful multicolored rented bowling shoes.
