New photos from tech rehearsals are on the Ford's Theatre Facebook page. (Facebook registration is not required.) These show David Selby in full costume as Abraham Lincoln.

For anyone who lives in the DC area, the Washington Post is giving away tickets to The Heavens Are Hung in Black as part of an online contest. Grand prize is tickets to the Feb. 8 opening night performance and reception plus $100. Five other winners will receive a pair of tickets to another performance. Enter here:

They're now providing additional details, and this is, as Charles assumed, a Region 2 release, with no current plans for a Region 1 US release.

Ford's Theatre now has a YouTube channel including a one-minute clip of David Selby discussing what it's like to play Lincoln.

And actors often take on roles that are supposed to be older/younger than themselves in real life.
Precisely. One of the more notable examples from series television is Barbara Bel Geddes and Larry Hagman as mother and son on Dallas. She was only about nine years older than him.

Selby's about to play a 53-year-old Abraham Lincoln, and it doesn't exactly require higher math to figure out that he's older than that.

I think that's why they call it acting.  [snow_wink]

The Copts were Egyptian Christians and their liturgy and what remains of their spoken language constitute a very late form of the ancient Egyptian language.  It was written, I believe, with a form of the Greek alphabet.
Not to split hairs here, but Copts are Egyptian Christians. They still exist. I have a relative by marriage who is from a Coptic Christian family.

This "Southern Gothic" has never been released on VHS or DVD~~the 1960 film was Joan Bennett's last until HODS.
Dust? If it were truly Southern, it would be Desire in the Intense Humidity[snow_silly]

The German Falcon Crest Fan Club is reporting that they've been notified by Warner Bros. of an April 2009 DVD release for Season 1 of the series. No bonus material will be included.

Selby's character, Richard Channing, doesn't arrive on the scene until Season 2. (He was appearing as Michael Tyrone on Flamingo Road during the first season of Falcon Crest.) Still, one would hope that Warner Bros. plans to continue releasing subsequent seasons.

I have a DVD recorder, and I do exactly what MB describes. I have a set of seven discs labeled Sunday-Saturday, and I've been reusing them for what probably amounts to six months. I've also taken content from these and edited it on my PC to burn to a DVD to keep.

I don't know that I'd say that EP on a DVD is better than VHS. I'd say it's about like VHS in SP.

For multi-hour events (sports, award shows, etc.), I still use a 6-hour SLP videotape. The 6-hour SLP mode for DVDs doesn't look so swell.

These are from Ford's Theatre's Facebook page, but I'm pretty sure you can still view them even if you're not logged in as a Facebook user:

Nice article but geez, they could have mentioned who is playing Lincoln!  [santa_rolleyes]
The cast hasn't been formally announced by Ford's, so that's not the writer's fault.

Figured this was probably going to be the case. A piece in the Chicago Tribune indicates that President-elect Obama has been invited to a VIP performance of the play on Feb. 11, but no word on whether he plans to attend.
