David Selby will return to Washington, DC, where he played Abraham Lincoln in The Heavens are Hung in Black at Ford's Theatre last year, to participate in a panel discussion on Lincoln at the Smithsonian's American History Museum on Saturday, April 24. The discussion will focus on public perceptions of Abraham Lincoln, and David will present the actor's point of view.

Now how did David get to town in that wheel chair?
I believe it's pretty much all downhill from Collinwood to Collinsport.
It's all downhill in every direction once they return from 1897.  [snow_grin]

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Re: Trusting Technology With Your Important Files
« on: February 13, 2010, 05:21:06 PM »
I'll second MB on using DVDs for backup. I use an external drive with Acronis software, but you have to remember that the drive stays hooked up to the computer and, because of this, can fall victim to a power surge or virus that affects your PC, so you can still lose everything in a flash.

Also, some of the backup software will not save your files in a format that is easily accessible in a pinch. For example, if my desktop PC won't boot, I can do absolutely nothing with the Acronis backup files on the external drive on a computer at work because I don't have user rights to install the Acronis software to access the files.

DVDs, on the other hand, you can pretty much use on any machine anywhere.

Having said all of that, if you're looking for a freebie program that will automatically back up files on a schedule that you set, visit Karen's Power Tools and check out her Replicator:

There are some other useful gadgets there as well.

Why is he taking credit for it then? LOL!!!
I'm not aware of David Selby ever trying to take credit for the car book written by the man who shares his name.

If he didn't challenge your assertion that he likes classic cars, it could simply be that he realizes that many fans at DS events are nervous and that this is a once-in-a-lifetime moment for them. Better that he be polite and listen to what they have to say than that he spend those brief moments arguing about what he did or didn't say 40 years ago in 16 Magazine or elsewhere so that a fan walks away with an embarrassing memory of David Selby telling them that they're just plain wrong about something.

That's my take, anyway. I can't speak for him on the subject.

Here's a link to about an hour's worth of video from Visual Radio from one of David Selby's appearances last fall to promote Lincoln's Better Angel. It opens with an interview with Selby followed by a clip from his presentation on the book.

Come to find out David Selby is scheduled to be on her show 12/08/09 at 10pm, although I have yet to figure out what time zone and I didn't see any details on DS's personal site.
It was just added to his site. It's at 10:00 pm ET / 7:00 pm PT, and they plan to take calls from listeners.

I might check these out via Netflix some day just out of curiosity.
Had the same idea -- to see the interviews, but Netflix isn't carrying them at the moment.

This gets more into the realm of literary works that have influenced DS. The current New York Review of Books podcast features Joyce Carol Oates discussing Shirley Jackson's We Have Always Lived in the Castle.  Naturally, "The Lottery" comes up, and so does the influence of Henry James, particularly The Turn of the Screw. The discussion is related to a written piece by Oates in the October 8 edition of the Review.
