Calendar Events / Announcements '02 II / Selby Site Update 8/22/02
« on: August 22, 2002, 05:44:46 PM »
Just a few small additions to mention:
  • a 1998 article from the Sunday Gazette-Mail (in Charleston, West Virginia) that includes some quotes from David about his play Lincoln and James, which he had previously performed at the 1997 Dark Shadows Festival in New York. Since that time, David has continued to work on rewrites of the play for possible future performances.

  • a 1990 article/interview from the Toronto Star about David's decision to leave Falcon Crest. (The show wound up being axed at the end of this season anyway, but David had decided to leave prior to the network's decision.)

  • a clarification regarding some misinformation that surfaced on a couple of Dark Shadows Yahoo groups last week regarding David's appearance schedule

Compaq and emachines tied for last place with failing grades across the board.

So those emachine cases made of aluminum foil didn't go over very well?  :o

LOL. The Dell computer dude is from my hometown. The local press covers him like he's Marlon Brando. He got into a bit of trouble with the union recently over filming commercials during a strike. (So did Tiger Woods, btw. I'm sure that fine will be a crushing blow to his yearly income.  ::))

I was much happier when the only actor of note from town was the guy who played Mr. Belding on Saved by the Bell. I consider him much cooler for having appeared in the same episode of the Dukes of Hazzard as Cale Yarborough.

It's good to be a redneck.  ;D

Ahh, Joanna Going to appear on "The Wide World of Disney"

This, of course, is not to be confused with "The Wonderful World of Sports" co-hosted by the late Howard Cosell and Tinkerbell, to whom Ali was actually referring to when he said, "Fly like a butterfly. Sting like a bee."  ::)

Those of you who wish to be on the safe side, however, may want to run the names of your family, friends, and local politicians through this website to make sure there are no historic villains among them.

Hmm. One of the anagrams it coughs up for Criseyde is CRIED YES. <vbeg>

Current Talk '02 II / Re: Dark Shadows' Stairway To Nowhere
« on: August 09, 2002, 05:47:10 AM »
Not exactly a unique thing even on today's sets. Some friends and I took the Warner Bros studio tour prior to the last Festival and got to walk around on the ER set.

The stairs lead down to a (stinky) pile of dirt and they lead up to nowhere. Any scenes with an actor running up flight after flight of stairs are shot on the same "flight" with the wall hangings adjusted to make the floors look different.

The stairways aren't any bigger than what you see on DS, so there's not much room for running.

Thanks to everybody for all of the birthday hoopla.

Bob bought me a new car, so I guess I shall have to refrain from kicking his butt.  ;D

I've just added some screen grabs and an audio clip from the film The Shot to my David Selby site. This is an NYU film school short that David did in the early 1990s. I believe this was shown at the 1999 Dark Shadows Festival as well.

These new additions come courtesy of videotape footage supplied by PatrickM.

Current Talk '02 II / Re: Most disturbing DS moments
« on: August 03, 2002, 07:07:36 AM »
Upon closer examination, I realized that this thread actually calls for the two most disturbing DS moments. So let me add to my original remarks:

(1) Amanda Harris
(2) Olivia Corey

And Sheenasma will back me up on this.   ;D

Current Talk '02 II / Re: SoapNet
« on: August 01, 2002, 04:47:43 AM »
Lately, they seem to be giving short shirft to their "classic" soaps. The most recent lineup change involved squeezing in another airing of current episodes of ABC soaps to the daily schedule.

The current ABC soaps air 3 times a day on SoapNet plus at least once in a weekend marathon.

In a recent article about the falling ratings of daytime soaps, someone associated with one of the ABC soaps complained that the multiple airings of their show on SoapNet were killing the ratings for the program when it aired on the network.

No idea if that particular opinion is common, has any merit, or will impact SoapNet programming, since their budget seems pretty tight.

There was a rumor circulating on the web a few months ago that SoapNet had acquired the broadcast rights to the 1991 DS series as part of a preliminary move to make a play for the original series when it comes up for grabs. Supposedly, the 91 series would become part of the weekend rotation on SoapNet, and they were also supposed to be adding Loving to their lineup.

However, that was all rumor, and there's probably little if any truth to it.  ;)

Hi everybody,

The site additions just keep coming . . .

I've just uploaded some photos from Jonathan Frid's 1998 performance at Hofstra University to Bob's Dark Shadows Event Photos web site:

Now all we need is an afterglow picture of Criseyde.

The Surgeon General has determined that posting such a photo could be dangerous to Sheenasma's health. Then again, she doesn't worry too much about health warnings.  ::)
