Hotel rate info from an anonymous source, who I hope doesn't kill me for copying and pasting. Obviously, you should call the hotels to verify the info for the date you want, but this should give you an idea of the options. :)

There are two places in Thousand Oaks that are a 2 minute car ride from the theatre and right next to each other:  (*Rates are for single occupancy)

Best Western Oaks Lodge, 12 Conejo Blvd., Thousand Oaks, 91360.  Price is $57 + tax, $52 with AAA. Continental breakfast, King bed. 805-495-7011

Thousand Oaks Inn, 75 W. Thousand Oaks Blvd., 91360.  A special rate for the Civic Arts Plaza (you just mention it when you register) is $70 + tax for the cheapest rooms, King-size bed, which are not remodeled and face the freeway (i.e. noisy).  Facing away from the frwy. is $80 + tax for a larger remodeled room with a King.  They also provide continental breakfast and refrigerators in the rooms, etc. 805-497-3701

there is a los angeles ds club that is meeting next week, oct 5 at 11:30 a.m. at the westside pavillion.  i was going to suggest going as one of our activities.  this way we can car pool and possible stay cheaply at a hotel if we wanted to party after the show or not drive back from thousand oaks for those far away.

(i personally don't want to drive back from thousand oaks to san pedro)

BTW . . . There are matinee performances on the weekends with lower ticket rates, so an earlier show might be ideal for anyone who has a long commute.

MsCriseyde has info on lodging near the theater. :)

I didn't realize this would draw much of an overnight crowd, or I would've posted something on the site sooner. I'll do that when I get a chance.

In the meantime, the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza has a web site, and they list restaurants and lodging in the area. I can tell you that it would appear that there isn't a hotel within walking distance of the theatre, but I am not 100% sure on that:

http://www.civicartsplaza.com/shoeat.htm

They also list shopping, and they don't have a Junior League or Goodwill Store listed, which might explain why Sheenasma can't justify making the trip. :P

I have additional information from Cabrillo Music Theatre regarding David's upcoming appearance as Beauregard in Mame.

I've updated my David Selby site to include the promotional poster for the production, which includes David's name, the original press release, and information about a special discount offer.

You'll find all this stuff on my site via the link below.

There's some very serious number crunching and online hotel and airfare scouting going on this evening in the Midwest.

Oh yeah...I almost forgot...
LOVE the picture of Criseyde flying a kite.

The photographer doesn't know it. Well, now I suppose he does. The close-up shot is what I use on my course web site and on the university's online course info system.

It was either that or let them use my university ID photo. I would sooner drop dead.

Anyway, they apologized for the technical problems and we were promised a transcript with additional answers (though I think that would make it something other than a transcript, LOL).  Sorry I can't tell you more, Mark.

Sorta sounds like what happens with the Congressional Record. Since the House of Reps is on strict time limits, members often request unanimous consent to revise and extend their remarks at a later date so that what appears in the CR is not necessarily what they said on the House floor.

I never quite understood the appeal of sitting in on a chat when the questions were submitted in advance. If you scroll really slowly through the transcript and accidentally close it 4 or 5 times, you can create the same effect at a time that's more compatible with your own schedule. :D

I'm glad you all enjoyed the night photo of Seaview. Your responses motivated me to scan some 40 photos today from my past visits to the house in 93 & 96 thru 99. If MsCriseyde gets the time, we hope to have a web page of them up at some point over the weekend.

Yes, right now MsCriseyde has gotten herself into teaching remedial freshman comp, which means she is grading a stack of papers with such nuggets of wisdom as "America will move on to become still the best country in the United States." (My hand to God, someone really wrote that.)

It's a slow process. Grade one paper. Bang head against wall for 15 minutes. Apply ice for 20 minutes. Grade another paper.

There's also a whopping stack of photos of Selby from this year's Fest that Sheenasma sent me to upload. I've not gotten to those either.

Maybe scan a photo should be entered as a step between apply ice and grade another paper . . .

Sheenasma,

Are you, by any chance, related to Imelda Marcos?

I personally resort to my school marm lace up shoes for all dressy occassions here in Hooterville, and that's because I am a school marm.

FMPs for the theatre and all dressy occasions in dazzling urban locations, though mine are not pumps per se. I go for the strappy high-heeled hooker look.

Beyond that, I believe that sueded pigskin work boots complement any and all outfits. When accompanied by a NASCAR cap, they also scare the hell out of any students who come to my office hours. ;)

Ok, so it is not the David Selby we know, but I still find this funny as hell:

Current Talk '02 II / Re: Dark Shadows University
« on: September 03, 2002, 02:14:30 AM »
Mark,

At the university where I am, grad English students have the option of proposing their own versions of the freshman comp course, and students can take these specialized courses if they so choose.

Right now, we have a few courses being offered that are similar to the one you found: "Vampires: An American Love Affair," "Fear and Loathing in America: The Horror Genre and Cultural Anxiety," and "Gothic Monsters and Damsels in Distress: American Pop Culture and the Gothic Imagination."

The vampire course is geared toward looking at how presentations of vampires as of the 20th century have become more sympathetic. They're reading Stoker and Rice, but they're primarily looking at a lot of tv and film.

The course you've found is the same sort of specialized version of freshman comp that we teach here. It's actually Virginia Tech, not U of Vermont. :)

If it had about 20 novels and various critical texts listed, the reading of which would most likely lead to blurred vision and bifocals prior to the age of 30, then it would be a grad course. ;)

As for why the instructor hasn't contacted you, that is probably because s/he is a grad student who never really considered the possibility.

The DS segment on Soaptalk will indeed air on Monday Sept 2! When you go on Soapnet's site, click on the Soaptalk page on the lower right. It brings up the schedule for the week, and the DS cast reunion is listed in the lineup.

The SoapTalk segment isn't the one that I can't find squat about on the site. It's the SoapCenter segment, which could very well be a repeat as well because they have done a DS feature in the past with outtakes of the cast from the 2000 Fest in LA.

Someone was kind enough to post this information on alt.tv.dark_shadows.

SOAPNet will rebroadcast the episode of SoapTalk featuring the Dark Shadows cast reunion on Labor Day.

I have some screen grabs from this show on my web site:

http://www.ldrservicesonline.com/darkshadows/soaptalk.htm

The message on the newsgroup also stated that there would be a Dark Shadows segment on SoapCenter on Labor Day as well, but I've not been able to find this mentioned anywhere on the SoapNet site.

At any rate, for the SOAPNet schedule for your area, check out their website:

Thought this might be of interest for anyone planning on attending the Collins Association Halloween Weekend who would also like an opportunity to see Donna McKechnie on stage.

She will appearing in Jerry Herman's Showtune (a Herman revue) at the Helen Hayes Theatre Company in Nyack, New York. Performances run Oct. 12-27.

Nyack is roughly 10 miles from Tarrytown.
