Current Talk '02 II / Re: Marvelous in MAME
« on: November 11, 2002, 10:51:53 PM »
I had to head out this morning before I could mention that there are two photos of David in addition to the one above that I have now uploaded to the site.

Click the link banner below and follow the link from the What's New section.

I cropped myself out of all the photos just because I am not keen on plastering my own face all over the site, but, since someone suggested posting this here, here is one of the few shots from the batch where neither of us is gesticulating wildly and blurring up the shot or blinking:

Just got some photos in via email last night after I posted the other stuff. Here's a preview of coming attractions . . .

This probably now makes me the first person in recorded history to crop herself out of a photo of David Selby. [lghy]

I really shouldn't be doing this because I have papers to grade before class tomorrow, but what the heck.

I've scanned the cover of the Mame playbill and the backstage pass Cabrillo Music Theatre created for David's fans and uploaded them to my site.

Hopefully, I'll be adding more stuff soon.

One thing that is missing right now that might be useful is a synopsis of Mame from Musicals.Net:

http://musicals.net/cgi-bin/synopsis?sn=52&show=Mame

And, yes, I did snicker every time they mentioned that Burnside's plantation was called Peckerwood. It's my new favorite word. ;-)

yes connie, we are going! a group of four us (including myself and the professor) from the so. calif. ds club are going to attend.  and not only are we going but i just found out today that we have permission to go backstage to meet and greet david.

thanks to ms. criseyde for her help in putting us in touch with the correct folks at the theater.

Actually, I had to send in my goons to lay the smack down.

Just kidding. The folks at Cabrillo Music Theatre couldn't possibly be any nicer from what I've seen. The producers have all been very helpful over the past few weeks.

Glad everything worked out for you guys. Hope you have fun.

Just please remember that it is not appropriate to yell out OHMYGODHEISSOBEAUTIFUL in the middle of the show. ;)

Calendar Events / Announcements '02 II / Mame Review in Ventura County Star
« on: November 07, 2002, 04:22:47 PM »
This morning's edition of the Ventura County Star includes a piece on Cabrillo Music Theatre's production of Mame. An entire paragraph is devoted to David Selby's portrayal of Beauregard. I've added a link to the article to my David Selby site.

Calendar Events / Announcements '02 II / Mame Review in LA Times
« on: November 06, 2002, 05:49:28 PM »
This morning's edition of the LA Times includes a review of the productions of Mame that opened this past weekend in Thousand Oaks and Long Beach. The reviewer clearly prefers the Long Beach version with Carol Lawrence and Sally Struthers, but David Selby does get a passing mention for his appearance in the Thousand Oaks production staged by Cabrillo Music Theatre.

I've added a link to my David Selby site.

Calendar Events / Announcements '02 II / Re: ShadowGram Update #86
« on: October 31, 2002, 11:06:11 PM »
Just a minor note here, Shadowgram reports that Mame is David Selby's "first musical performance."

He has appeared in a few musicals before, including Brigadoon and Oklahoma in Morgantown, West Virginia in the early 1960s.

However, this may very well be the first time he's had to sing a solo part. I am not familiar enough with the musicals mentioned above to know just what the characters Sandy Dean and Will Parker do or don't sing in them.

Calendar Events / Announcements '02 II / Slightly OT: Mame Article
« on: October 31, 2002, 08:46:09 PM »
This might be interesting for anyone who's planning to see David Selby in Mame this week or next week in Thousand Oaks, California.

The Ventura County Star ran a profile piece on Amanda McBroom in today's issue. She'll be playing the title role, and she's most famous for writing the song "The Rose," but, frankly, I think her greatest contribution to the world was doing voice work on The Smurfs. :P

You'll find a link to the article, which mentions neither David Selby nor smurfs (more's the pity), on my David Selby site.

Addition to original message: The Thousand Oaks Acorn also ran a piece today about McBroom and Mame. I've added a link to that to my site as well.

did we have official sites?  i thought we were pretty much it.  i did notice that the restoration site had an announcement.

Oops. Apologies to Darren because he did post this on the restoration site and send out an email update.

However, there are other sites touting themselves as official outlets for DS information that have not done the same thing. The ones I had in mind when I posted this were Dark Shadows Online and the Festival site, both of which, unless I have completely flipped my wig, reported Louis Edmonds' death very shortly after it happened.

At least the MPI DVD site doesn't have DP's name on the list of upcoming web chats, but I don't think it ever appeared on there in the first place.

Thanks for posting this, Midnite. Glad to see Dennis Patrick is getting his props here and on some of the other "unofficial" Dark Shadows sites, since the official ones haven't bothered to report his passing yet.

Calendar Events / Announcements '02 II / Dark Shadows on Court TV?
« on: October 29, 2002, 09:46:54 AM »
I found this interesting. TV Now is listing several Dark Shadows cast members as appearing in an episode of Court TV's The System entitled "Dark Shadows" airing on Halloween. I had assumed that this was simply an error or a coincidence.

Now that Court TV has updated their web site, you can see the full episode description, and this particular episode centers on the murder trial of Rod Ferrell in Florida in 1998. Ferrell allegedly led a vampire cult, and much was made of his interest in Dungeons & Dragons (which is a close second to heavy metal music as the root of all evil ;-) ) and a vampire role playing game. To the best of my knowledge, Ferrell was never pegged as a Dark Shadows fan, but the episode title has me curious.

I've also developed an interest in this sort of thing because the university has just approved a course proposal I submitted for a specialized version of freshman composition dealing with fans and fandom.

Since I don't get Court TV, if anyone happens to watch this, I would love to know if there's anything Dark Shadows about this other than the episode title.

Here's the link to the show on the Court TV site:

There's also a link for additional information on the right side of that page.

For those of you who couldn't get enough of Roger Davis' promo video for his housing development at the last Festival and for those of you who missed it and want to know what all the fuss is about, I have some exciting news.

The video can be downloaded from the web. That's right! Download it, send it to your friends, watch it again and again. Relive the magic. Feel the love. Know the square footage!

I just wish some of the grading gypsies would stop by my apartment right now because it's 12:20am and I have to write comments on 14 more papers for tomorrow. I could use their help.

Donna McKechnie was photographed alongside Sandy Duncan and Chita Rivera at a benefit concert on Monday night. Here's the link:

BTW, Sandy Duncan is about to appear in Gurney's The Fourth Wall off Broadway with Dark Shadows one-show wonder and Falcon Crest veteran Susan Sullivan.
