MsCriseyde...did you say that the players went to lay down the tracks yesterday to a studio??

(In other words, the performance Robin mentioned was a run-through; not the product we'd be purchasing?)

Yes, the actors went to a recording studio to record their parts on Monday. Stuart mentioned being there in another thread.

As for the video that was shot during the performance, I have no idea what the plans are there.

Conflicting information seems to abound these days.  ;)

The actors went into the studio today to lay down the audio for a cassette/cd release of the play.

The format of the presentation on Sunday was more or less identical to the radio plays David Selby has done with LA Theatre Works.

And someone mentioned crying when Carolyn mentioned VW being her sister and Liz's daughter -- NB was working up real tears too.

Or maybe that was from being pawed constantly by RD.  ;D

Calendar Events / Announcements '03 II / David Selby in Up the Sandbox

I've posted some screen grabs from Up the Sandbox to my David Selby site:

http://www.ldrservicesonline.com/davidselbysite

I posted some more info about the DVD release last night on another thread, but I think that thread is currently unavailable, so I'll summarize briefly.

While Streisand doesn't specifically mention Selby in her commentary, the DVD also includes feature-length commentary by director Irvin Kershner, and he does mention Selby a couple of times.

First, he briefly mentions that he was cast because they didn't want Streisand surrounded by superstars in order to make her role as a housewife more believable.

Second, he discusses David's timing/rhythm and how expressive he is with his eyes in the scene in which Paul brings Margaret breakfast in bed and they talk.

Of course, if you want a lengthy discussion of which side of Barbra Streisand's face is her better side, then her commentary is the one for you. (And I really wish I were joking, but the fact is she does go on and on about it.)

Thanks to everybody who took time out to post birthday wishes on this thread. I appreciate it.  :)

Actually, there are 2 separate commentaries on the DVD. One is by Steisand, and the other, which I just now got around to listening to, is by director Irvin Kershner.

Kershner mentions Selby twice. First, at the beginning of the film, he describes him as a "lovely actor" and says that he had not seen any of Selby's other work prior to his being cast in the film. He says the point was to pick a cast who were not well known to the viewing public so that Barbra Streisand would be more believable as a housewife. If she were surrounded by stars, the film would be less believable.

The second mention is during a scene toward the very end of the film when Selby's character brings Streisand's character breakfast in bed. Kershner compliments Selby on his sense of timing with the dialogue and notes how expressive he is without saying anything later in the scene. He does it all with his eyes.

I'm sure others on the board will also confirm that his eyes do it for them.  ;D

Anyway, screen grabs are forthcoming.  ;)

MSCRISEYDE....girl...gotta tell you...it makes it sound as if either:

a) MRS Selby is your sister

or

b) YOU'RE MRS. SELBY!
 :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Umm, no. ;D

David's wife is very good about relaying information about his current projects, etc. to fanzines, fan sites, etc.

I don't know what else to tell you to convince you that he's in this film.  [8311]

Patti,

He's in the movie. That's not a complete cast list, so it's not surprising that his name doesn't appear since it is a small role.

He filmed in Chicago in January when temperatures were in the single digits, and he went from location filming straight to West Virginia to work on Final Assault when it was in production in Charleston.

That info is from a source about as close to David as you can get, and she's been that close for 40 years.  ;)
