I'll be assembling my presentation clip tape in the next couple of weeks, so if there's a particular missing scene you'd like to see, post your requests on this thread, and I'll consider them...

Now where the devil is Sheenasma? I know she'll be on here voting for the missing scene featuring "the tongue."  :P

It's a nifty site.  I've been looking up old Lovecraft books on there.  I haven't ordered anything yet though, but this site was highly recommended to me by a book dealer, so I would guess they're reliable.

Abebooks is also one of Amazon's used booksellers, and my mother has ordered stuff from them via Amazon numerous times. Everything has always been exactly in the condition in which it was described (if not better), and their prices seem reasonable in comparison to the other used booksellers on Amazon (and she usually buys the cheapest copy she can get her hands on  :) ).

But there are instances that show the writers' literacy knowledge too -- e.g., Bramwell was named after the real life Bramwell Bronte, brother to Emily, Charlotte, and Anne.

And perhaps how fuzzy their knowledge was since the Brontes' brother's name was actually Branwell, not Bramwell.  ;D

Suburbs on the Fort Apache Reservation are seemingly named after movies and TV shows, and one of them is named after DS. Who knew?!  :D

I went looking for more information about this, and the best I could do is a cached page on Google that appears to be a letter from a 3rd grade class in AZ to another class in Ohio. Because this is a cached version, the photos won't load, but they do offer an explanation of the neighborhood names. They aren't just randomly assigned. They even have an area named for Ben-Gay.  ;D

Gothick,

Thanks for posting this. I took a lot of courses in Eastern religion as an undergrad, some of them as I was seeing 1897 for the first time, and, like you, I never came across anything that showed a connection between the hexagrams and time travel. I always just assumed that the writers plucked it out of, well, you know.  :-X

David's official site, DavidSelby.com, was updated over the weekend and now features a link to the production company's web site where you can view a trailer for the film. I don't think this is actually the "theatrical" trailer. Looks more like a clip they put together to plug their company, but David shows up in at least two shots.

David's site also has some new info about a couple of his radio plays that will be airing during the summer months and that can be accessed online.

Current Talk '04 I / Re: Original DS to be on Horror Channel??

In addition to the posts Midnite noted, there was a recent online chat (June 2) during which the CEO of the channel stated, "We have been evaluating the original Dark Shadows as [a] potential staple for our launch lineup." Full transcript is here:

http://www.creature-corner.com/columns/chatnickpsaltos.php3

Someone may have posted about this on another thread because the question that was actually posed was whether or not the channel would try to acquire the new series. Apologies if I'm repeating info.

I would imagine that any concrete developments on this front would be announced rather quickly via an SG email update.  :)

For what it's worth, David Selby will be playing the part of Peter Kroger.

You can read a bit more about the history of Pack of Lies as both a play and a film on the L.A. Splash Magazine web site.

Getting into Manhattan from LaGuardia shouldn't be horrible....I have to admit I've never done it myself....but I know thousands of people do it every day.  Perhaps someone else here who's flown in for NY Fests can explain what all the options are from the airport to midtown.....

Here's the transportation page from LGA's own web site:

http://www.panynj.gov/aviation/lgtsmain.HTM

Since I popped this page out of its frame for the link, the main page link would probably be helpful too:

http://www.panynj.gov/aviation/lgaframe.HTM

I've taken a cab from LGA into Midtown. Pretty simple. You just follow the signs to the taxi stand and tell them where you need to go. The estimates they give here regarding price and time seem fairly accurate from what I recall.

I wasn't arguing the validity of the publicity argument other then why would they really bother?  Truly, if it came to it, they'd be in the right legally speaking.  But, what money would they get from anyone is the other thing.  Would be a might hard to collect damages.

Ah, but not every legal dispute ever makes it to court. Usually, the copyright owner begins by simply sending a letter, or, in some cases, an email message, to the webmaster asking them to cease and desist. In the case of fan web sites, usually the fear of ticking off the actor, director, etc., is enough to make them stop.

If they stupidly continue, there are other avenues to pursue long before it shows up in court. The copyright owner need only notify the entity that hosts the web site under guidelines laid out in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 (aka the DMCA), and the entire site will usually be yanked for violating the host's Terms of Service.

As part of the web consulting work I do, I've been involved with situations where an email was sent to a webmaster about a copyright issue, and I've also been involved in a situation where a web host was contacted under the DMCA guidelines. Both are cheap, quick and relatively painless processes for the copyright owners.

I did some "who is" searches on some popular DS domain names.  Not one of them is even owned by DCP including the DS Fest Site.  MPI owns the domain darkshadowsdvd.com.  This means that we fans pay for, create and maintain internet information for Dark Shadows.  As far as I can tell, DCP does nothing.  I would think then that it's not in their best interest to shut us all down.  They are getting loads of free publicity out of it without the cost of website maintainence.

I wouldn't put too much faith in a whois search on domain names as an indication of who ultimately controls or foots the bill for a site. In many instances, sites are registered in the name of webmasters and/or technical consultants and then billed back to the actual owners. Their names and addresses may never appear for a number of reasons including privacy issues and the fact that they wouldn't have the technical expertise to deal with any of the mail/e-mail related to the site.

Anyway, I wouldn't expect the Dark Shadows Festival site to be owned by DCP or MPI. Ostensibly, the Festival is a fan organization with members who work on a volunteer basis, not a corporate entity.

The "free publicity" argument ultimately doesn't carry any weight should someone decide to dispute your use of their copyrighted material. However, companies generally don't bother you if you're not interfering with their ability to turn a profit. Therefore, posting a screen grab isn't likely to cause problems. Posting so much of an episode that your presentation serves as a substitute for buying the actual item will get you into hot water.

If your site serves as a supplement to rather than a substitute for a product, then you usually don't have much to worry about, but that's certainly not a guarantee.

According to Lara herself, she did not get along with Loretta Swit during the filming of RWTD.  That tidbit is probably more interesting than anything in the movie...  ;)

On the Thursday evening prior to the 2001 Fest, Sheenasma and I saw Loretta Swit in a performance of The Vagina Monologues and met her afterwards.

We pondered mentioning this to Lara Parker in the autograph line at the Fest just to see her reaction.  ;D
