Calendar Events / Announcements '04 II / Release Date Set for Selby Film
« on: September 15, 2004, 07:55:33 PM »
Dreamworks SKG has announced that Surviving Christmas, starring Ben Affleck, Christina Applegate, and James Gandolfini with David Selby in a small role, will be released on October 22, 2004.

Originally, the film was slated for a November release, but apparently it has been moved up to open opposite the remake of Alfie.

Portions of this movie were filmed around the Chicago area in early 2003, but the release of the film was delayed to allow studios with Affleck films to stagger their release dates so that they would not compete with one another. (And no one was eager to release the first Affleck film following Gigli.)

Various versions of the films trailers and teasers are available online here:

My understanding is that David doesn't appear in any of these, but I've not actually looked at them.

Calendar Events / Announcements '04 II / New Cover for Selby Poetry Book
« on: September 13, 2004, 06:21:43 AM »
A new cover for David Selby's poetry volume, My Mother's Autumn, made its debut at the recent Dark Shadows Weekend in Tarrytown.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, the cover art is now featured on David's official web site:

http://www.davidselby.com

The book is also in the process of being added to Barnes & Noble's web site. The cover art is featured there, but they do not have copies in stock at the moment. That should change fairly soon.  :)

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Re: Computer question re: Windows SP2
« on: September 09, 2004, 06:15:51 PM »
So far, I've heard about two different types of issues.

One involves Outlook Express users losing their saved mail and address books. From what I gather, SP2 moves the files where these are stored to a different location and some OE users are having problems tracking them down.

The other involves users who, per Microsoft's own advice, disabled antivirus and firewall software during the SP2 installation, and then got zapped with some of that lovely browser-hijacking adware. So there isn't really an SP2 problem, just something that happened while the machine's defenses were down.

I'm not too keen on the notion of disabling AV or firewall protection while I'm on a network or dial-up connection, especially since my firewall software constantly tells me it's prevented some sort of intrusion while I'm dialed up through a certain ISP that I use. Sounds like another good reason to order the cd and avoid the online installation.

Calendar Events / Announcements '04 II / Interesting DVD Set 13 Review
« on: September 09, 2004, 08:00:47 AM »
This review of DS DVD Collection 13 popped onto the Internet radar just a few hours ago:

Have to confess that I'm partial to the paragraph on David Selby's portrayal of Quentin, but I also was intrigued by the remarks about Lara Parker's commentary at the end of disc 2. While I think the reviewer might be a tad bit harsh, I do admit to staring at the screen and saying, "Umm . . . ok" while watching her interview.

Ah . . . behold the power of denim!  :o

I've added some photos from CynD and NancyMck since I posted this last night. Apparently, Nancy had an interest in the jeans too.  ;)

Thank you, Midnite, for that stirring homage to my favorite portion of the Leviathan storyline. Too bad you can't make the mystery guest undulate.  ;D

MsCriseyde - you said "sell" a CD; I had assumed it would be free.

I was told they would charge for shipping by my pc guru. Turns out they're not, so, if you only have a dialup connection, I would go ahead and order the stupid thing.

It's new. It's big. It's raising a lot of eyebrows for that reason. Microsoft will gladly sell you a copy on cd so you don't have to download it.  ::)

There's an overview of features, etc., on the Microsoft site:

(MB, are we allowed to post links to Microsoft here?  ;D )

Beyond that, I can't tell you much except that someone I know who works on pcs for a living said that downloading it appears to have screwed up a bunch of driver settings for the printer and modem on a pc he was working on for a customer.

True, he didn't wear that same shirt we saw the past two years, but this Selby wardrobe recognition moment is courtesy of a European magazine piece from the late 80's. Scroll to EmeraldRose's photo at the top of this thread for comparison.  :P

This program will have its radio debut during the last weekend of September, and one of the stations airing it will have an archived broadcast available on their site for a week. There's info on the official Selby site and on the LA Theatre Works web site.
