Current Talk '04 II / Re: when do you "watch"?
« on: October 09, 2004, 04:28:52 AM »
I watch while I work out, and my "rule" is that, during the week, I can watch only when I am working out. Some days I spend a little bit longer on the stepper if I want to watch another episode. Because of the 1897 DVDs, I'm probably in better shape than I have been in a long time.

How sad is that?   ::)

Then there's the time Quentin and Amanda were crossing the bridge and she falls in.  But I wouldn't call that catastrophic - more like a relief.  ;D

True, but, on a similar note, any scene of those two in "happier" times would qualify as catastrophic.  :D

Beginning Oct. 19, PBS will air a new 6-part documentary hosted by Julie Andrews entitled Broadway: The American Musical. As usual with major documentaries, the PBS web site has an extensive section devoted to the program, including a page profiling Donna McKechnie.

Doubt you'll see him in any of the promos.

My understanding is that he plays Jennifer Morrison's father, and her character has been described as Affleck's girlfriend, though apparently over the course of the film his interests turn to Christina Applegate.

For anyone keeping score, Jennifer Morrison also appeared with David in Intersection. She played Richard Gere and Sharon Stone's daughter. There's an online interview where she comments that David has played her father before. Actually, he played her mother's boyfriend who has a special way with pancakes.  ;)

Current Talk '04 II / DVD Set 14 Question
« on: October 01, 2004, 04:52:55 PM »
I got a copy of DVD Set 14 this week. Haven't noticed any issues with the episodes themselves, but, on my copy, the audio on the Selby interview at the end of the first disc seems to have really uneven volume, fading out almost completely at times. Was wondering if anyone else noticed this.

Sort of getting off topic here, but since there's been so much talk about Sky . . . Geoffrey Scott also appeared on Dynasty, and he's featured in the eps that are currently airing (at this very moment on the East Coast) on SoapNet.

Calendar Events / Announcements '04 II / Re: Release Date Set for Selby Film
« on: September 29, 2004, 07:18:57 AM »
The film is scheduled to premiere at Grauman's Chinese Theatre on October 14. Tickets to the premiere are distributed by the studio and are not available to the general public, but this info might be useful for anyone on the lookout for coverage on the various entertainment shows.

Calendar Events / Announcements '04 II / Re: David Selby in Pack of Lies

If anyone visits the KPFA web site to listen to the archived broadcast, you'll see that they list a Sinclair Lewis play instead of Pack of Lies. This is a mistake. Ignore it. Click the link anyway, and you'll hear Pack of Lies.

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Re: Not seeing DSAddict links?
« on: September 26, 2004, 05:09:05 PM »
Not sure how it is with other firewalls, but, if you're running Norton's version, if the Ad Blocking option is selected, the link for the web site won't appear when you view DSAddict's post.

The reason may have to do with the fact that the word PROMOS appears in the URL. Norton will block links that contain words like ad, promo, banners, etc. because it suspects they are advertisements.

Learned this the hard way when I set up a web site over the summer and put the page banner/title graphics in a folder called banners. They wouldn't load for Norton Internet Security users.

The "Barnabas" character is secondary and not very  sympathetic. That suits me just fine.....but most fans of the show wouldn't be too thrilled, would they?  ;)

I think the decision to reject this book says a lot about fan fiction vs. "official" novelizations. Fan fic writers/audiences are much more eager to embrace and explore these sorts of stories that foreground a secondary character (please don't slap me, Willie fans). The stuff that's produced commercially has to appeal to a broader base, so you're not going to see many of the "twists" associated with fan fic. What Hinton is up to here is what fans would expect and most likely embrace from a fan fic writer, but the very same people might scream and yell over what she did if it were sanctioned novelization, perhaps because it somehow represents an assault on the DS canon that a piece of fan fic wouldn't present because it doesn't carry the blessings of DCP.

Bob,

Disneyland is in Anaheim, not Hollywood.  ::)

At this point, I'm just happy they chose a location near a real airport.  ;D

Which leaves me wondering.....why on earth didn't any of us know about this already?  :D

There had been a news item floating around online some time ago that Hinton would be writing the next DS novel, but nothing more was said about it, and talk turned to Lara Parker's efforts to write her second novel.

Guess Hinton didn't abandon the project after all.
