The American Theatre Wing has put its Guide to Careers in the Theatre on its web site. This a series of 30 hour-long interviews with prominent artists discussing how they made their way in theatre. Donna McKechnie is interviewed in "The Dancer."

If you (aka Bobubas) want to watch Donna McKechnie for nearly an hour in Real Audio format, click here.

Looks like they are having fun, doesn't it?

They probably brought their own blender.  ;D

Current Talk '05 II / Re: DS Review & TV Tome
« on: August 25, 2005, 04:31:20 AM »
TV Tome changed to TV.com maybe a month ago or more.
The transition has been a bit ruff, but the new format has a lot of neat features and improvements.

Drifting away from DS a bit here, but one thing that I really despise about the overhaul of that site is that they eliminated the Links sections for actors and shows. Some of the information submitted to TV Tome came from webmasters of fan sites, and reciprocal links are always a nice thing. Granted, if you read the small print, you knew that they reserved the right to do whatever the heck they wanted with the info anyone submitted, but I still think it's shabby to abruptly dump all the links.

I'm sure if Donne were alive to see Dark Shadows, he would have to agree that *the* afgan is, in fact, a metaphysical conceit.

I think he would agree only if the afghan were infested with fleas.  ;D

one thing that puzzles me is why someone would bring a blender all the way to a con??
Many have asked that same question, but few have turned down drinks from the blender.  ;D

Stumbled across this blog entry from Tuesday by critic/commentator Ed Martin that might be of interest:

Thanks, everyone, for the birthday wishes.

great being at your table at the fest again, and all of us sharing the Dearly Departed tour!

The Dearly Departed Tour was awesome.  :)  I know several other Fest attendees took the tour during the weekend. Our tour was comprised entirely of DS fans, which turned out to be a really good thing.

For anyone who didn't know, those large Babylonian sculptures at Hollywood and Highland are replicas of the set from the D.W. Griffiths film Intolerance. The original set stood on the spot now occupied by the Vista Theatre, site of the HODS and NODS anniversary events where the stars placed their handprints in the cement.

So the Vista is on the Dearly Departed Tour because of Intolerance, but Scott, our guide, realizing he had a van full of DS fans, offered to go beyond his usual drive-by and stopped to let us take photos outside the theatre. Greystone is also on the tour route, so we got to drive by there as well.

And you'll never guess what the opening music for the tour was.  ;D

Then she started going on and on about how she'd gotten interested in DS late in its run ("All my friends at school stared at me and said, ¢â‚¬ËœYou mean you've never heard of DS?'") and how it was such an important part of her life.  "It spoke to my inner child!  All of you really helped to awaken my inner child!"  She kept stressing this point throughout her very lengthy statement until one fan in the audience yelled out, "Tell your inner child to go back to sleep!"  That didn't deter her though.

All I could think of were the lyrics to a song by the Eagles called "Get Over It": "I'd like to find your inner child and kick its little ass."  >:D

It's called Q & A, for question and answer, not P & A for "point" and applause, not that there really was a point to the whole exchange.

For what it's worth, there was a blurb in several of the industry mags last month indicating that the North American rights to Unknown have been acquired by the Weinstein Co. (as in the brothers who are exiting Miramax) and IFC Films (as in the Independent Film Channel). No release date has been announced.

Current Talk '05 II / Re: 1991 Series To Be Released On DVD
« on: August 05, 2005, 08:02:04 PM »
If I recall correctly, victoriawinters originally asked MPI whether they intended to release the series on DVD. They weren't lying when they said no. MGM is doing the DVD release. I can't really blame MPI for wanting to unload their VHS copies before the DVDs hit the shelves rather than directing fans to a competitor for DVD copies. That sort of stuff only happens in Miracle on 34th Street;D

Photos from David's Florida book signings in Aventura and Orlando have been posted on DavidSelby.com. There's a shot of David with members of the Central Florida DS Fan Club.  :)

While wading through all my e-mail from this past weekend I discovered a notice concerning an article about this past weekend's reunion of the Theater West Virginia alumni, of which David Selby is apparently because he's mentioned in the article

He appeared in TWV's Honey in the Rock in 1961. There's a photo on DavidSelby.com. TWV has its own web site with photos that feature Sarandon, but nothing with Selby.

I also wanted to say that I think that pitching a fest video or site on the basis of the content relating to a man who is clearly disabled is a turn off. Yes, it was an unfortunate incident, but it's hardly worth reliving. Frankly, I found the snickering, whistling, and yelling from the audience members to be far more offensive than the behavior the man exhibited. This is DS fans at their worst.

KLS handled the situation with a great deal of poise. Unfortunately, she mentioned the man's name, and I doubt at the time that she thought it would live in infamy online or she wouldn't have done it. Children are afforded a degree of privacy and protection on the Internet. It stands to reason that an individual whose mental capacity is equivalent to that of a minor should also be afforded the same respect and protections.

It's sad that we're even having this discussion three years after the fact. I, for one, will be happy to see this material finally removed from the web.
