Calendar Events / Announcements '03 II / David Selby in Up the Sandbox

I've posted some screen grabs from Up the Sandbox to my David Selby site:

http://www.ldrservicesonline.com/davidselbysite

I posted some more info about the DVD release last night on another thread, but I think that thread is currently unavailable, so I'll summarize briefly.

While Streisand doesn't specifically mention Selby in her commentary, the DVD also includes feature-length commentary by director Irvin Kershner, and he does mention Selby a couple of times.

First, he briefly mentions that he was cast because they didn't want Streisand surrounded by superstars in order to make her role as a housewife more believable.

Second, he discusses David's timing/rhythm and how expressive he is with his eyes in the scene in which Paul brings Margaret breakfast in bed and they talk.

Of course, if you want a lengthy discussion of which side of Barbra Streisand's face is her better side, then her commentary is the one for you. (And I really wish I were joking, but the fact is she does go on and on about it.)

Two additions to the site in the Photo Gallery:

(1) screen grabs from the film Raise the Titanic

(2) screen grabs from Dr. David Selby's appearance a few months ago on West Virginia State College's State Today

While his play, Final Assault, was in production in Charleston, David served as an Artist in Residence at West Virginia State College. He continues to be involved in the college's new masters program in Media Studies.

The new additions are accessible via links from the main page:

This week's BBC Radio 4 Friday Play is Blood of Strangers, starring Eric Stoltz. David Selby also lends his voice as Dr. Blake.

Unlike NPR broadcasts, which are only available via live simulcast, the BBC archives their broadcasts until the next installment of the program. Therefore, you can listen to Blood of Strangers at your leisure until the next episode of The Friday Play airs next week. (In other words, none of those lame server errors folks were getting trying to listen to Streetcar on KPCC.)

Today's issue of the Cleveland Plain Dealer includes a piece on War and Remembrance with comments from director-producer Dan Curtis:

You'll be asked for your ZIP code and year of birth before being allowed to access the article, but you don't have to go through a full-blown registration process that involves giving out an email address, etc.

Calendar Events / Announcements '03 II / Criseyde's Selby Site Update
« on: July 12, 2003, 05:36:34 AM »
Hi everybody,

I've just added some screen grabs from the 1977 television movie Telethon to my David Selby site. The cast of the film includes Eve Plumb from The Brady Bunch and Kent McCord from Adam -12. Jan Brady actually lights up a smoke, and Officer Jim Reed roughs up Quentin Collins.  :o

The screen captures were made from video footage provided by NancyMck and are accessible from the What's New section of the main page at:

Calendar Events / Announcements '03 II / Dallas Coming to SoapNet
« on: July 08, 2003, 04:57:37 AM »
Beginning Sept. 8, SoapNet will be adding Dallas to their lineup.

Some DS actors made appearances on the show. Dennis Patrick played a significant recurring role in the early seasons of the show as Vaughn Leland. Mitch Ryan and Kathryn Leigh Scott also made appearances, and it wouldn't surprise me if I'm leaving someone out here.

« on: July 07, 2003, 06:12:53 AM »
Hi everyone,

I've updated my David Selby site with some images from 1981. Timely, I know.  ;D

  • screen grabs from David's appearance in Rich and Famous, director George Cukor's final film, co-starring Jacqueline Bisset and Candice Bergen -- Behold, the fake mustache.
  • images from the Playbill for I Won't Dance, including headshots of David and co-star Gail Strickland, whom you might remember as Dorcas Trilling from the 1897 storyline on Dark Shadows
Links to the new material are accessible from the main page of the site:

The LA Theatre Works production of Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire will be broadcast on KPCC 89.3 FM in Southern California on Saturday, July 19, at 8:00pm PT.

David Selby plays Mitch. His co-stars include Vincent D'Onofrio as Stanley, Glenne Headley as Blanche, and Amy Brenneman as Stella.

If you don't live in Southern California and/or can't get this station on your radio dial, you can listen to an Internet Real Audio simulcast here:

http://www.scpr.org/play/live.ram

This title is not currently offered for sale on CD/tape by LA Theatre Works.

If you're a Sprint PCS Vision customer, you can add several Dark Shadows ringtones to your cell phone. There is an excellent site for downloading free ringtones at mbuzzy.com, and I've added the DS midis that I have so that they can be used as ringtones.

Here's how it works. Point the browser on your phone to http://mbuzzy.com. You'll get a screen that asks you type in a buzzcode. Here are the DS tunes and their associated buzzcodes:

Dark Shadows Theme - 58263
Quentin's Theme - 58264
Josette's Musicbox - 58267
Joanna - 58268
Ode to Angelique - 58311

Once you enter the code, you basically just follow the onscreen instructions to download the ringtone for your phone. If you need help, point your pc's browser to http://mbuzzy.com and you can read more. There's also loads of other stuff available, and you can also upload your own midi files and then download them as ringers for your phone.

Calendar Events / Announcements '03 I / John Karlen's Son
« on: June 25, 2003, 04:50:16 AM »
The Karlen fans can probably fill in a lot more detail, but, apparently, John Karlen's son Adam also does some acting.

Wednesday morning at 6:00am ET, he'll be on an episode of Pensacola: Wings of Gold on TNN. The ep originally aired in February 1998.

I'll see if I can get hold of a grab or two to post.
