Calendar Events / Announcements '04 I / David Selby in Larva
« on: June 05, 2004, 08:34:35 PM »
All the other threads mentioning this were in CE/A '03, so I guess it won't hurt to have a thread on it here since it supposedly airs this year.  :)

The initial buzz on Larva, which was filmed in the Springfield, MO area in November and December of this past year, was that it would air on Sci-Fi Channel during the summer. Some reports indicated a possible July airdate.

The word now is that it will be broadcast in the fall.

I am told that David Selby plays the "chief villain" in the film.  ;D

The film was shot in and will be shown in a widescreen format.

If you're interested in reading about some of the camera, lighting, CGI, etc. effects that were employed for the movie, check out this article from DigitalProducer.com. You'll need to scroll down to the part labeled "The Larval Stages":

This is actually the second page of the article. If you scroll to the end of it, you'll see a link to the previous page if you want to read the whole thing.

Calendar Events / Announcements '04 I / David Selby in Pack of Lies
« on: May 28, 2004, 08:43:47 PM »
This has been mentioned elsewhere, but the full casting information just became available this week. David Selby will appear in the LA Theatre Works production of Hugh Whitemore's Pack of Lies on June 16-20. (There are no Saturday performances.)

Performances are at the Skirball Cultural Center.

Other cast members include Rosalind Ayres, Martin Jarvis, and Julian Sands. (Worthless trivia: Ayres and Jarvis are married. Selby is the only non-British actor listed as starring in this performance.)

A synopsis of the play and box office information is available on the LA Theatre Works web site or DavidSelby.com.

I've finally uploaded 2003 Dark Shadows Festival photos to DRKS ONE's web site. I've had these for months and forgot about them until I came across them while cleaning my office.

Please use the link on the site to contact DRKS ONE if you have any feedback about his photos. He doesn't visit many of the online forums and lists.

Calendar Events / Announcements '04 I / Surviving Christmas
« on: May 13, 2004, 07:23:16 AM »
The Associated Press and Variety recently reported that the Motion Picture Association of America had to arbitrate a dispute between Dreamworks SKG and Revolution Studios over the titles of their upcoming Christmas films.

Surviving Christimas starring Ben Affleck and Christina Applegate, which includes an appearance by David Selby, was originally filmed in early 2003. The release date was delayed due to an agreement between film studios that would prevent two of Affleck's films from competing with each other in theaters. Therefore, we got Paycheck this past holiday instead of Surviving Christmas, which will be released this coming November.

Revolution Studios plans to release a film based on the John Grisham novel Skipping Christmas this year.

Because of the similar titles and because Surviving Christmas is already in the can, the MPAA determined that Skipping Christmas has to be retitled Christmas with the Kranks, after the name of the family that is the film's focus.

There . . . more info than anyone could ever possibly want or need. ;D

Calendar Events / Announcements '04 I / New David Selby Film on DVD
« on: May 02, 2004, 08:16:06 PM »
In late 2002, it was reported that David Selby had a brief role in the film Topanga Canyon, which was retitled Topanga. In 2003, under the new title The Affair, the film began making rounds in independent film festivals.

The News page of the Official David Selby Web Site is reporting that The Affair is set to be released on DVD this month. The page includes a link to the film's official site.

Just a few quick additions:

  • The News page now contains links to the two recent WVU press releases regarding David's honorary doctorate and commencement address.
  • The News page also contains information about Dark Shadows DVD Collection 13.
  • The TV Schedule and Radio Schedule pages are no longer being updated since the News page of DavidSelby.com now includes that information. Less work for me.  ;)
New information is accessible from the What's New section of the main page:

Calendar Events / Announcements '04 I / Fest Videos
« on: April 29, 2004, 12:18:37 AM »
Following up on something that came up in a thread about Return to Collinwood regarding Festival videos. I don't have contact information for all the videographers, but I can direct you to one of their web sites:

http://drksone.0catch.com/fest_videos.htm

The page needs to be updated because he also has footage from the 2003 Fest.

There are a few other videographers, but I don't have contact info handy. Perhaps someone else can chime in here.

For those of you who have SoapNet, the current episodes of Ryan's Hope feature Dorrie Kavanaugh in the cast as Martha McKee, who is dallying, shall we say, with Jack Fenelli.

Kavanaugh appeared on DS as Phyliss Wicke.

This Ryan's Hope web site features screen grabs from an episode that aired recently on SoapNet:

http://members.tripod.com/RyansBarOnline/kavanaugh1.html

The grabs aren't the greatest, but I didn't recognize her until the closing credits, so I don't have any of my own to offer.  :)

Sadly, Dorrie Kavanaugh passed away in the early 1980s.

Calendar Events / Announcements '04 I / Chris Pennock in Hamlet
« on: April 01, 2004, 07:05:44 PM »
The recent SG e-mail update reported that Chris Pennock is appearing as Claudius in the Tamarind Theatre's production of Hamlet in L.A. I found this article about the play and its connection to an HBO series from the L.A. Times rather interesting.

ARTS NOTES;
'Hamlet' is making quite a scene
3-14-04

In L.A.'s sub-100-seat theater scene, most producers can't afford to spend much on advertising.

But the hoopla for the "Hamlet" opening March 22 at the 85-seat Tamarind Theatre in Hollywood is something else entirely.

Already, the production is being advertised on 12 billboards, as far away from the theater as West L.A., and on two city buses. Television commercials are in the talking stage.

Francesco Vitale, who runs the Tamarind and stars as Hamlet, says the marketing campaign set for the next few months has a $300,000 budget, raised from three investors whom he won't identify. None of the money is his, he insists: "I'm a struggling actor."

The production also might get a PR boost because it and the Tamarind are being used in the shooting of a new HBO comedy series that George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh are producing. But Vitale says revenue from the HBO deal is not paying for the "Hamlet" marketing campaign, which was already in place before the deal was made. In fact, he believes the marketing might have helped attract HBO.

HBO officials declined to discuss the deal except to confirm that the series has filmed both at the Tamarind and during rehearsals for "Hamlet."

Calendar Events / Announcements '04 I / Misty Dawn - DS Parody
« on: April 01, 2004, 12:26:31 AM »
Stumbled across this and thought it might be of interest. Apparently, a production company in the Dallas area is shooting a parody of DS entitled Misty Shadows. It will supposedly air on Dallas community television. Filming, if the web site is accurate, took place this past weekend.

More information, including casting sides, here:
