Current Talk '09 II / Re: Discuss - Ep #0854

Wow! What a great episode. I always liked that little scene between Quentin and Lady Kitty. It shocks me that, after Quentin made those remarks,
she could never figure out that Quentin was actually Count Petofi.
Unfortunately, this episode marks the beginning of the end of the good storylines for this time period.
I always thought that Q-tofi was not well-written - that the writers never wrote as they would for the character if it was played by the original actor. Because of that, the storyline gets a tad boring, but so be it - I still watch it.
Beth's attitude is very strange. Of course, she could never play the vinditive woman very well, but she seems almost worried, but she made a vow to Count Petofi, so she'd better obey it! And Aristede, always bringing up the fact that Petofi is confiding in him instead of Beth - he feels so jealous and threatened by this new person who was brought in to replace him.

Does anyone remember if The Game is with Jonathan Frid or not? If it is with JF, then I am also tempted to vote for one of his Bramwell scenes, the one after he recovers from his wound and meets Catherine on the terrace. The intensity between JF and LP is so very compelling to the viewer (namely me!) [ghost_embarrassed]

But if your theory is correct, then
why did Q-tofi, when he got past the time barrier, awaken in the foyer of Collinwood, instead of the West Wing?
Remember, DS is supposed to be fantasy, and some occurences cannot be pinned down with cold, hard facts.

One wonders how Aristede knew that Julia had not been killed. Was he waiting in the bushes when Barnabas and Julia came out - both alive?  [hdscrt]

This reluctant truce/alliance of Julia and Angelique may be one of the best scenes they had together. They weren't really arguing, merely sniping over Barnabas. I still remember wondering what this clever plan is of Julia and Barnabas, and the manner in which Angelique affirms her support and assistance was no help to me then (I was very young).

The whole Tate/Amanda thing dragged on too long. Things could have been a lot smoother if Tate had just kept his sketches and portraits to himself. I disagree that Charles Delaware Tate was the worst chacracter that RD played - Ned has to top that list. Besides, I rather like the part when his character
is the dummy/old man in present time, living under the name Harrison Monroe.
And, really - so he creates a man, why does Amanda really have to scream? It wasn't like he was assembled piece by piece, he merely appeared.  [ghost_rolleyes]  Enough of this storyline about Amanda the troubled ingenue that everyone and his dog loves - back to the call girl that wants to destroy Trask!

Yes, I do agree that Nicholas should have gotten the girl. Maggie and Joe were so goody-goody together, at least this couple had some diversity. I was really disappointed when Nicholas died or disappeared - he stuill remains one of the best, if not THE best villain ever on Dark Shadows.  [diablo]

Barnabas' attitude towards Maggie is too late, since he has already done irreversible things to her mind and body. Has he ever heard of the expression "the pot calling the kettle black" . . . ? [ghost_tongue]

Frankly, I'm pleased that Eve didn't come back to life. Although her scenes with Nicholas were vewry good indeed, seeing more of Eve means seeing more of Adam, and I was never much of an Adam fan. Maybe now we can move past all this nonsense about the rehashment of Frankenstein. [ghost_azn]

In the early episodes, Roger has had it coming for a long time, and it wouldn't have mattered if Vicki had been there or not. How dare he even suggest that Liz fire Vicki - Vicki didn't trap Roger, Burke and the sherrif did. Vicki didn't hide the pen. Vicki wasn't really involved, though she tried to be (another quality that could be a deterrent in her character - she always has to get involved). I really don't understand how Roger, Matthew, etc. get off saying that it's all Vicki's fault just because she arrived in town at the same time as Burke Devlin. Really stupid suppositions on these character's parts. [ghost_angry]

Joan really does some of her best acting in these early shows. The cool, calm, calculating woman never gets old. [happy4]

I wonder why
Frank and Richard end up being kicked off the show and only being talked about. I know that in the 1968 storyline, Liz is mad at Richard because Roger told him that she had been in Windcliff, but they still could have had minor roles.
Frank was good with Vicki, even though the whole Burke + Vicki has already been sort of established, at least on Burke's end. It would've been nice if Frank and Vicki could have been something more.

Also, although the children in the audience may very well be scared seeing one of their peers in a coffin, any child actor would balk at being put into a casket before his/her time. I think that whoever was in charge of that decision was just sparing David Henesy.

Count Petofi was really anxious to get to the future to escape from the gypsies. But wouldn't his body stay in 1897 like Barnabas's body did in the beginning? The gypsies could still find him and take his hand again as he sat there in his trance. [ghost_shocked]

Yes, that is correct, but
since Petofi will eventually take over Quentin's body, no one will be the wiser if Quentin is in a trance. The gypsies would never think to cut off his hand.
I think it's because Petofi was a werewolf, too, and knew what it was like. Also, I think Quentin reminded him of himself. [ghost_wink]
I don't think that's it.  Empathy isn't one of Petofi's traits.

I don't think empathy is the answer, either, but rather a sort of a similarity between them. When Petofi (via Jamison) was possessing everyone in Collinwood, he spared Quentin because Quentin was a realist. He saw in Quentin something akin to himself, and since Petofi's god is Petofi, he would try to spare anything that reminded him of himself.

One of my all-time favs is the one where Barnabas is telling the story to Josette's death to Carolyn and Vicki. The atmosphere and eerieness are so powerful and potent - I just love it! Some of JF's best acting. [thumbleft]

(Sorry I haven't posted in a while - I've been moving)
