A more burning question is... Is this the end of "JosephandZooeyWeb"?!?!?

That is so sad about Michael Maitland and Mr. Matlick.
A little ironically, when one Googles "Michael Maitland", the first items are about a oncologist by that name.

Nice memorial video here (if anyone has not seen it already.)  Michael grew up to be quite a good-looking chap.

I found Michael Maitland singing!  He pops up in this song from "The Rothschilds", playing one of Mayer R.'s (Hal Linden) five sons.  I'm pretty sure it's "Nathan"-- it was around the time MM was on DS and the voice is recognizable.  Great song, all around.

I don't know what's going on, Maggie-- Ever since Burke returned and Vicky came to town, WE'VE both changed completely!

This is serious--If we break the chain and don't make 20 hand-written copies of this letter, somebody might lose their life like this poor chap in the Philippines.  It seems he fell off a cliff...

No Vicki, of course I didn't tell Mrs. Stoddard you've already been fired by Princess Grace, Queen Elizabeth and Gloria Vanderbilt for asking if THEY were your real Mom! Just don't do it again-- oh, WHO am I kidding?

Mercy Brown is now the subject of a young adult novel.  A (fictional) modern young collateral descendant of the unfortunate, mutilated Mercy researches her relative's life, which helps her deal with her own problems.  There are some elements of the paranormal in the story as well, which I guess would make it a good Halloween read.

Some names and ages of the principals were changed (her dead sister is called "Grace" rather than "Mary Olive"; the afflicted brother in the book is a young boy, while her brother was in his 20s and a newlywed.)

Apparently there are no photographs of Mercy or her family from that period (1880s-90s); at least none have surfaced at this time.  However, Mercy did leave a souvenir of her life, talent, and interests in this handmade quilted coverlet, which was preserved by her father's side of the family:

I'll always remember the couple of times Mr. Michael and Ms. Ross attended the Festival.  They always walked close together, and sometimes arm-in-arm (they had a room on my floor in Vegas in 1998 so I noticed them heading out once or twice), and they interacted so well together on stage.  They were obviously very devoted.  And so nicely dressed, too!  Just a neat couple.
At least it seems he went peacefully, in his own home, but it must be so hard for Ms. Ross.  My greatest sympathy to her and all their children.

I would sure love it if a part was included for Alan Rickman in the Burton-Depp DS movie. [snow_wink]

Another voice in protest of God-Forbid-Newark.

Nothing like being in clear sight of a hotel and not being able to find the way to reach it for a couple of hours, circling hopelessly and driving through neighborhoods where there should be signs that actually say "Welcome to another high-crime area."
And this from someone who is in love with "Weird New Jersey!"

Now if you said Atlantic City, that would be interesting.

But in reality, please please PLEASE, let it be Brooklyn or Tarrytown.

I also think it's an interesting coincidence that Mr. Nielsen, William Shatner, and Jonathan Frid, who all enjoyed success in American TV roles in the 1960s, were born in Canada!
I first recall seeing, and used to luv Leslie Neilsen in BRACKEN'S WORLD, which was a short-lived series, but a rather good one, in 1970.  (Which I don't believe was a fave of most 13-year-olds... [snow_grin])

Never heard about this before (probably missed it.)   Pranks between the actors was one thing, but a "replacement worker" would have been just as easily replaced, if nabbed by someone with the power to do something about it (unless it was the boss's nephew. [hall2_wink] )
(And imagine the dry-cleaning bills this would have caused!)
Somebody needs to ask about those casket bio-hazard pranks of the scabs at the next festival.

I had occasion to travel up to Westport, CT this week, and I saw a FOR SALE sign on the front lawn of the historic inn known for many years as the THREE BEARS RESTAURANT.

As viewers of HODS know, this was the movie's version of the Collinsport Inn, both interior and (in one scene that was deleted, IIRC) the exterior.

Over the years, DS fans in the area have trekked to this location and had (somewhat expensive, I guess!) meals.  The place always got good reviews from restaurant critics and diners.

The actual "Three Bears" name and logo came down in early 2009 (after nearly a century), and a restaurant called "Tiburon" took over the facility.  The family owners of TBR apparently had financial issues which even the restaurant's enduring popularity could not assuage.

However, the Tiburon also failed within a VERY few months.  The food apparently wasn't up to the TBR's standard for the prices.

And it seems nothing else has taken over at the old inn since.  I did not see any signs (of life) at the place, though the property appears to be maintained (grass cut, windows intact, and reasonably-fresh paint job.)

Here is an online listing.  $1.6M.  I hope SOMEONE buys it, as it IS of historic value.

I suppose you've already considered this idea, Joe, but I'm throwing it out there anyway, especially as I, too, was deprived of an opportunity to attend this past year and always appreciate anyone's good videos of things I have missed.
Have you tried suggesting to Mr. Frid (and/or his legal representatives) that in return for deleting the actual Richard III footage, but keeping the Q&A and handprint ceremony, you could make a donation to the charity of his choice from the proceeds (though I guess he would have to name the percentage)?
I don't know what you sell the DVDs for, but if it's an affordable loss to you (would this qualify for a tax deduction?), then you still get to sell your work, the fans can buy these mementoes, and Mr. Frid will have the satisfaction of helping whatever causes he still supports, as well as being generous and fair to people who have been loyal fans for over 40 years.
It would be win-win-win for all if it succeeded, but if not, at least then you could say you tried everything.

Being killed by Barnabas - Great!  [thumb]

Doubling Barnabas - Great!  [thumb]

Doubling Jeff - Who the hell did he royally piss off that day?!  [eek]

It's like the legend of Disney execs allegedly being forced to wear the "Goofy" costume. [ghost_tongue2]
