Current Talk '03 II / Re:John Yeager...what can I say.

Yes, that scene at the docks WAS creepy.  And for pure perversion, DS style, it would be hard to beat an upcoming scene with Yeager.  My memory is foggy with the details here, but IIRC, he steals Maggie's hairbrush and in once scene practically salivates on it!

I think the writers are doing a good job with Yeager.  They're taking the extra steps to show that this isn't just a bad guy, but a truly evil and perverted man.

It's so interesting that you were taught a little differently than I was.  Both sides of my family are from Naples, and I learned that "the horns" (il corno) were for protection from the evil eye (il malocchio), and that a strega can put an evil eye on anybody s/he pleases.

Wow, Midnite, these things you mention certainly bring back childhood memories for me. When I was very young, there were older members of my family who believed in the malocchio and the other things you mentioned.  Any instance of misfortune was caused by someone giving them the "evil eye", and even a harmless bird landing on a tree near there window was cause for great concern!  They believed a woman who lived on their street was a witch, and was constantly cursing them.

I would **curse** these people, just kiddingly of course, but they were always worried that what I had done would cause adversity in their life.  Amazing.  Personally, I don't think their lives were at all enhanced for the better by their beliefs.

Then, when she goes into the Herbal Essence routine purring, "It's been so long, it's been so long," I had no idea what was going on! So long since WHAT

Ok, here's my take on it.  We know Laura hasn't been "right" since Quentin extinquished the flame in the urn.  She's need assistance from Dirk, who is somehow holding the spirit of AMON RA, if that's the correct spelling.  So the portrait burning is having a kind of healing or beneficial effect on her.

We do know that Laura can sense things from afar.  Remember that she heard Sandor trying to open the entrance to her tomb, so I guess she could also feel the flame as it burned her portrait.  Anyway, that's my guess!!

Unfortunately, it turns out I am 4,400 feet past what they deem acceptable.

Yeah, the same thing happened to me with Verizon.  Just a few miles too far out. Fortunately, AT&T Broadband came in soon after that with internet high speed service. Good luck, I hope you get a service provider soon.

Right now, DirectTV sounds like the likely one, how did they rate?
Eww, do you think that will be a problem for me?

I didn't even know that DirectTV was in the DSL business.  They're the satellite TV service people, aren't they??

I know the answer to why the fest is always
on one coast or the other, but I still think
it would be a great thing to have at least
one fest in the mid-west. Chicago or
Indianapolis would be my top choices.
Julianka

I think that would be great!!  Kansas City or St Louis might be good picks too, wouldn't they.  It's kind of a shame that it's always on one of the coasts.  I've never been to the mid-west, but would love to visit someday.  So many interesting things to do, and very nice people too, I'm told.

so far Bernie this is just a plan isn't it???

Hey Jennifer!!  I forgot that you go to school in Beantown.  Yeah it's just a plan at present.  I imagine it has to be ratified by the Boston City Council, but Menino has a good track record in getting his way with them.

Money wise, it probably amounts to 50 cents more per ticket, and I'm not even sure that fest tickets would apply.  But you know these guys, they never met a tax or fee they didn't like!

Hi Bernie!

However, I suppose the festival could be elsewhere and the admission could just be raised to cover the increased cost of having to fly all the actors in.

Nancy

Hello Nancy!!

Tom Menino, the Mayor of Boston has just announced his plan to tack on a sports and entertainment fee for tickets to certain events.  Not that it would affect the cost very much, but it does show why many of us call our state **Taxachusetts**, LOL!!

There must be some weird reason why Boston is never chosen.  Anyone here know why?  Might it be that Boston hotels cannot accommodate conventions as well as LA or New York?

Well, we're getting the Democratic National Convention during the next presidential election, so I think it's doable.  We've gotten lots of other big time conventions too.  I think that Hines would be great for a fest!  Hotels are expensive, but like you say, not quite as bad as NYC.  I've always heard that NY and LA are chosen for the convenience of the DS personalities.  Don't know if that's truly the case, though.

I actually want to sign up with another DSL service, but I still have to connect to them through Verizon's local hub because Verizon is my phone company. If I'd wanted Verizon DSL, they'd probably already have the ports installed, but I suppose they could care less about installing ones for the competition. [lghy]

Yeah, people like Verizon aren't too thrilled when there not the only kid on the block! Here in Massachusetts, AT&T Broadband has recently opened their network to other companies to provide internet broadband.  We now have the option of having Earthlink as our provider.  So maybe there's still hope for freedom of access??

I've never had DSL, I'm just a few miles too far out, but I'm very happy with the speed that AT@T Broadband provides.  I can download up to 1.5 MBs a second, which is way more than enough for me.  Not to say that their tech support is wonderful, and their usenet server is far from perfect, but the speed is good.

From what I hear, Verizon does have it's share of problems too!!

Is the forum crawling along for anybody else?  I can't get anywhere on here without waiting forever for the pages to load.  Nothing else is moving slowly, just the board.

I'm on Broadband, and it's very slow here too, Connie.  But at least it's up!!
