Current Talk '24 I / # 1219 the lost episode
« on: February 18, 2024, 09:53:39 PM »
I’ve been talking the last story line slowly, but I was watching #1218 thinking I like bramwell’s mother’s acting and character when the next episode rolled around.  Quite a surprise to me #1219 is lost.

Haven’t read the robservations yet, but it was interesting watching and made me curious about the origin airing and how the lost episode got lost and reassembled.

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / Dark Shadows AI art? Off Topic
« on: April 17, 2023, 05:17:38 PM »
Anyone dabble with AI art?

I occasionally do at the free and didn’t register level.

Sometimes trying to get an animated interpretation of the characters.
Most efforts don’t pan out perfectly, but I’ve actually generated one or two half decent characters within an image of multiple characters.

I’m not sure how to share any results at the moment, but  . . .
My latest attempt used these key words:

Dark Shadows 1970 cartoon Bruce Timm Style animation chart Barnabas Julia Victoria Willie Elisabeth Collins

Note:  Bruce Timm helped create the animation style seen in Batman: The Animated Series and used in many other DC super hero cartoons since 1992.

Current Talk '24 I / SyFy TV Schedule and the Abandoned Quest
« on: September 15, 2022, 10:28:01 PM »
On a whim loosely inspired by an old thread on this forum and a question in the back of my head for a while I tried to find out what month I started watching Dark Shadows in college.  My first experience watching the original show on tv.

It’s crazy, but there’s still schedule info dating back to 1996 and even earlier.  Sometimes the schedule has episodes numbers too.

I can cross reference things with my memory and forum resources like the caption game page (nice for story and timeline info) and Robservstions.

But I’ve put way more time into this effort and it’s driving me nuts.

Not asking for help on my quest.  I know when story wise I started watching and about what year.

But if anyone needs this schedule info for there own quests here’s the link:

https://www.innermind.com/sfc/index.html

I’d suggest copying and pasting the schedule in something like Excel perhaps.
There’s a bunch of nifty tricks that can help process text.
Perhaps I can post more details if anyone is interested in those tricks.

Calendar Events / Announcements '24 I / O/T What was that show?
« on: September 04, 2022, 01:59:52 AM »
A few years ago I caught the end of what seemed like a mini marathon of a black and white show.
It was about a former private eye / detective and his misadventures with his wife (or fiancé maybe girlfriend?).
Can’t pin down enough details to google it, but the few episodes I saw were pretty fun and funny. Unlike the The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show (love that) I haven’t seen it on tv since.

I imagine that reruns of the show might have aired more often back in the day.

Current Talk '24 I / Barnabas and Bats? An Odd Thought or Two
« on: July 02, 2022, 03:52:28 PM »
When Barnabas turned into a bat do you think he could talk to other bats?

And a weirder thought  . . . do you think Barnabas could fall in love with a female bat?

Has past fandom ever discussed the odd possibility’s?

Current Talk '24 I / Leviathan story line - I just finished
« on: June 13, 2022, 04:09:01 AM »
I just finished the Leviathan story.
The first time through was on Sci Fi when I was in College (University) and didn’t really know the original Peter Bradford story, so I forgot about that weird bit I didn’t understand.  After all 91’ Peter had more of a one sided romance with Victoria.
Now what was confusing and forgettable is an unforgettable (but still confusing) story point.

Even though I enjoyed the storyline back then I remember it dragging and being slow.  But going through it in Robservations with a few episodes streamed on Amazon Prime (IMBD with commercials) in the mix went quickly.

I miss remembered a dream sequence and thought they resurrected Paul before the wedding.

It was strange how Angelic was brought into fight, but hard was in the story.

Current Talk '24 I / Favorite line of dialogue? For 2022
« on: May 02, 2022, 02:56:53 PM »
Favorite line of dialogue?
. . .

I was reading an thread (post) and just today ran across a fun line of dialogue that I don’t think got mentioned in that post.

——
892

Carolyn:  Maggie, did you ever have the feeling that you suddenly didn’t know someone?  Someone you thought you knew very well.

Maggie:  Huh.  Sometimes I get that feeling when I look in the mirror.

The dialogue hit me as clever and delivered well.

When I find it I plan to add a quote from the 1991 series.

Any other quotes new and old?

Current Talk '24 I / Price of painting - Leviathan
« on: May 02, 2022, 01:53:36 AM »
888  . . .
 . . .
Where did you find the painting? asks Julia. The Anderson Auction House in Rockport, he says. How much do you want? asks Julia. Philip and Megan exchange a hopeful smile. Julia asks, is it for sale?

Yes, says Philip--$300.  I'll take it, declares Julia. Megan is delighted, Carolyn shocked. Julia takes out her pen and checkbook and requests the phone number of the auction house.
 . . .
 . . .

Carolyn still looks like she's been hit over the head.  When Julia asks, are you ready? Carolyn responds, "Yes, for practically anything!" ($300 was a small fortune in 1969, folks, which is why Carolyn is expressing such shock.)
 . . .

I’m hesitantly heading into the Leviathan storyline (which I think of fondly as it was the first major story line I saw in reruns during college [University]).

I’ve been watching the show on Prime with commercials a bit, but still reading Robservations.

*** Anyway $300 using a on line Inflation Calculator
is supposed to be like spending $2,478.48

I guess that’s a lot to spend on a landscape, but I already know what Julia’s character may suspects about the  painting is true.

Just thought this might be an interesting thought.
I’m not sure how reliable those calculators are, but I definitely didn’t expect the difference was that significant.

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / OT - 7th Guest?
« on: April 25, 2022, 01:35:28 AM »
It’s a pretty old game, but does anyone have fond memories of The 7th Guests computer game?
It came out back when CD ROM’s still used caddies.

The puzzles were okay, but I love the atmosphere in the game and the book that helps introduce the story.

Burke Devlin

I don’t know how I missed that Burke is supposed to be the bad guy and his last name is Devlin, which almost sounds like Devil.

Wow.  That makes me feel a little silly that I didn’t make the connection.

Anyone have a similar revelation?

Current Talk '24 I / #0778 Why would Pansy . . .
« on: March 29, 2022, 09:44:30 PM »
So I’ve been going through Robservations.  I’m up to 779,  the 1897 story line has been pretty epic so far.

I do have to ask though why would Pansy’s Ghosts give Carl a dream about Barnabas?
Didn’t Dirk kill her?
Barnabas only hid the body?
Unless Angelique is behind it I don’t understand why Pansy would seem to be plotting revenge.

Any thoughts?

778  . . .

Carl, asleep, dreams.  We see a pretty multi-colored lamp beside his bed, a ball atop the legs of a jester balancing it.  Pansy hums her song.  He calls to her, over and over.  She's in her dressing room, getting ready for her show, dressed in spangles, all made up.  Carl comes to her and she tells him he's just in time for her farewell performance--I'm going away!  Why? he asks.  The way things worked out, she says, it's time to retire.  You can't go, he objects.  It's the way things worked out, she repeats--and it ain't been all roses for Pansy, ya know--psychic powers take it out on a girl.  He kneels and tells her, if you stay with me, I'll but you a big house, beautiful clothes, and we'll go around the world together!  Sorry, luv, she says, it's time for Pansy's farewell, and you can't stop me, the show must go on--and what a revealing show it's going to be! she grins--come and see for yourself, luv, she invites.  We hear applause, see PANSY FAYE in glitter.  She stands onstage and says, "There is one answer we seek tonight, and it must be found.  She asks for a volunteer, and points to Barnabas, who shakes his head, no.  She asks Judith to come up, not to be afraid, give her a hand! she calls.  She instructs Judith to concentrate on the answer, which will come slowly, but it will come.  Judith says she can't concentrate on the answer without knowing the question.  You know the question, says Pansy harshly, everyone at Collinwood does!  Judith doesn't!  Carl comes up and squeals, "I do!"  Pansy invites him up.  "The question is this!" says Carl.  "Who is the vampire?!"
No, says Judith.  What do you mean, no, demands Pansy.  Judith insists, you know what I mean.  "I certainly do," says Pansy--"your mind's a pane of glass to me--you think the vampire dead!"  He is, says Judith.  No, says Pansy, the vampire is not dead, he lives, he walks among you.  Judith runs off, screaming.  Barnabas watches her flee.  Pansy asks for another volunteer, and points to Barnabas.  No, he says again, "but how about this boy--he's the brightest of the lot."  Carl, ecstatic, races up onstage.  Pansy kisses his mouth, for luck, then says, "The question."  "Who is the vampire!" says Carl.  Pansy raises her hands and says, "Hidden by day, stalking by night, killing those who cross his path, Pansy will tear away his mask, Pansy will find his hiding place, and put a picture of it in your mind--concentrate. . .concentrate...is there an image for me?"  Carl says he can't tell yet.  Don't fight it, she urges, see it with your mind, your inner eye, your psychic soul. . .see it!"  A vision of the Collins mausoleum comes to Carl, who yells out, "I see it!"--I don't understand--what does the picture of the mausoleum mean?--who will I find there, you must tell me more!  "There is no more tonight--or any other night," she says (and it's spooky, too, the way she grins).  "My music, please!"  Applause. She sings her song, off-key, not matching the music.  Carl comes out of his dream with a start.  "The mausoleum!" he says.  "I must find out what it means!"

Current Talk '24 I / Art in Dark Shadows
« on: March 13, 2022, 04:16:56 PM »
I’ve noticed that art is a significant part of Dark Shadows.

Do you think that was expensive for the show?

Why do you think it’s so prominent?

I have a few guesses, but I’m sure other people here have more insight.

Painting probably are used in to show a connection to the past and as an easier visual for the audience.
With a show usually (or always?) shot live to tape it’s easier than putting insert shots in too.
But those are just my guesses.  I look forward to reading other thoughts and information.

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / A little lost caption
« on: January 31, 2022, 12:51:05 AM »
Quite a while ago I wrote a caption, but failed to post it.

It’s not a big deal, but I just wanted to share it for fun.

Maggie never told Quentin that she was a mime.

Current Talk '24 I / Combined Episodes?
« on: January 13, 2022, 10:15:16 PM »
I’ve noticed both in Robservations and Amazon Prime a few episodes are combined.

I was wondering why?

Reconstructed from pieces of both episodes?

Double length episodes airing the same day?

Other?

Current Talk '24 I / Loyalty to Liz
« on: December 27, 2021, 03:49:13 PM »
Reading through early Episodes with Robservations I noticed that Liz commands fierce loyalty and inspired at least two people to fall in love with her even though it’s not love Liz returns.

What inspired such loyalty?

The character does come across as intelligent and strong, but could there be more to it?

Any fan theories, opinions, or show details that explain this better?
