Calendar Events / Announcements '24 I / Mad Men DS reference
« on: November 17, 2019, 10:24:08 PM »
i'm a bit late to the 'Mad Men' party but i've been watching it on Neflix and in season 5 episode 8 there's a major DS reference...

Don Draper's wife Megan is an aspiring actress auditioning for soap operas. there's a scene of her reading scripts with a friend and although they don't say it by name she's reading about "Burke Devlin" and "Victoria"   and some other 1966 references. for the record she thinks it sounds "silly' and gets a part on a more traditional soap.

« on: September 01, 2018, 07:45:15 PM »

www.collinsporthistoricalsociety.com has more deets.

i guess the "screening" is the long promised "documentary"?

Calendar Events / Announcements '18 / KLS Festival Remarks
« on: May 26, 2018, 01:10:19 PM »
does anyone follow KLS's personal Facebook page?

this weekend she's put out a statement on potential future festivals or lack thereof. she says nothing's been planned for the year (which we pretty much knew) but curiouser and curiouser claims she is not in tough with Jim Pierson at all and is urging US the fans to "reach out to him" directly to plead the case.

Scott has been the principal player in this whole thing for decades. while she accurately states the cast and crew are not the event organizers but simply invited guests i find it astonishing she's not in contact with Pierson on this. she even suggested the fans "take over" the planning and get the mailing list from JP.

has there been some weird backstage falling out? Pierson must be in possession of the financials. and if it's no longer viable than so be it. make that announcement and everyone can move on. but the limbo around it and the fact that Scott's out of the loop is very odd.  [ghost_blink]

Calendar Events / Announcements '17 II / Depp Shadows T-Shirt???
« on: July 29, 2017, 03:35:24 PM »
this morning i was up early doing Saturday laundry/chores and found, buried deep on the bottom of a dresser drawer, a black DS 2012 T-shirt with an image of BarnaDepp and the film tagline "Strange is Relative"...

for the life of me i have no idea where this came from. i certainly never bought it. it was never a festival offering (where the film is largely ignored). this has to have been a giveaway somewhere. but where??? i saw the movie opening day but don't recall any promotional giveaways.

does anyone else have this? WHERE did it come from?  [easter_huh]

FYI the first two seasons just popped up unexpectedly on Netflix. it's never been streamed there before.

it will likely be several months before season 3 arrives.

Current Talk '16 II / Happy DS 50th
« on: June 27, 2016, 04:16:58 PM »
to my astonishment my local CBS news weather person gave DS a shout out this morning for it's 50th. he made a bad pun about today's warm, sunny weather not casting any "dark shadows" and then wished the show a happy 50th.

it was quite surprising.

Calendar Events / Announcements '16 I / Salem Season Two/Lucy Lawless
« on: April 02, 2016, 02:29:43 PM »
Salem season two was just released on Netflix and I'm three episodes in...

all of my worst fears about the Lucy Lawless casting addition have come true. she is AWFUL.

it was obviously just a piece of stunt casting set up to capitalize on her "Xena" fame and get the "comic con" crowd more fully onboard. her acting style is too campy and out of synch with the rest of the tone of the show. whenever she's onscreen it takes you "out of the story" because it's so inorganic and forced. like a "celebrity" cameo or walk on that screams "this is just show biz".

staggeringly bad.  [ghost_tongue]

Calendar Events / Announcements '16 I / festival registration
« on: February 29, 2016, 12:34:43 AM »
has registration for the 50th anniversary fest gone out yet? in the past I feel like forms were sent out a few months in advance.

if not who can I contact to register? it's been a few years since I've attended and I'm out of the loop. what are the exact dates?

any information please.

Calendar Events / Announcements '15 II / dark shadows dance party
« on: July 25, 2015, 11:50:51 AM »
apologies for the late posting...

tonight the Brooklyn based gothic industrial monthly dance party 'Arkham' will be having it's third annual 'Shadows of the Night' DS tribute night...

screenings of the OS, 1991 and the original movies will be shown throughout the night along with the usual industrial dance music. not sure what other treats might be in store. when they did this a couple years ago they actually got the always game KLS to do a live Skype interview.

it is at Don Pedro's. 90 Manhattan ave, Brooklyn NY 11206. 10pm-4am.

it is much to late for this granny but i'll check it out and report back.

Current Talk '14 II / CBS This Morning and DS
« on: October 13, 2014, 01:50:38 PM »
did anyone else catch this morning's episode of 'CBS This Morning'?

they did a story on television's "new" blood and guts "craze" featuring the current batch of vampire and zombie fare...

looking back at previous shows that dealt with the subject they showed clips from (of all things) 'The Muensters' and DS. the clip from DS was the opening shot of the ocean waves crashing and a shot of Willie opening the coffin and Barnabas' hand reaching out to strangle him...

needless to say the word "campy" was employed to describe the tone of the old shows.

Calendar Events / Announcements '14 II / 'Penny Dreadful'
« on: July 01, 2014, 06:37:09 PM »
Great finale. I'm hoping for a new cast and story next season. Why muck this up with a sequel?

while the "Mina" storyline appears to have reached it's conclusion the episode left viewers with enough "cliffhangers" that one has to assume that the series will pick up where it left off with the same cast of characters...

perhaps new "supporting" characters and a new set of subplots but the main cast I believe is being held firmly in place.

Testing. 1, 2, 3... / question on stats
« on: March 16, 2014, 01:04:46 PM »
this morning I happened to look at my forum stats...

in the "most popular board by posts" section it listed 'current talk 2014I' as my most active board with 489 posts...

that cannot be accurate. I know I have not posted nearly 500 times in 2 months. that number is about a quarter of my total posts in my entire decade at the board. and I used to post a lot more than I do these days. how are those totals being calculated? [snow_huh]

apologies if this subject has already come up...

last night I watched the documentary film 'Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel' about the legendary Vogue and Harper's Bazaar editrix. Vreeland was the inspiration for a fictitious fashion editrix played by Grayson Hall in the 1966 French film 'Qui Etes-Vous, Polly Magoo'. to my pleasant surprise this documentary featured multiple clips of Grayson's outrageous turn in the film.

it's quite interesting in it's own right but Grayson fans should check it out.
