Purchased at a past Dark Shadows festival auction for over $1000 now you have a chance to own a piece of Dark Shadows history; Dan Curtis’ private address book complete with his Frier’s Club card and his Producer’s Union card.  Any reasonable offer will be considered

Dr. John Schaefer has asked me to post this for him. John and his life mate, Peter Mac, who many of you know from their wonderful Collinsport Players’ skits, have become casualties of the economy. They have recently lost their homeand although John has some wonderful job opportunities currently he is on a commission basis and need to raise some funds to meet expenses.

THE SMASH OFF-B'WAY SHOW JUDY AND ME RETURNS!

FOR A FOUR WEEK LIMITED ENGAGEMENT!

Just in time for Gay Pride (and back by popular demand) is Peter Mac's critically acclaimed Judy and Me. The show described as "the gay play that requires only a heart and humor to enjoy -- regardless of one's own life or lifestyle." A four week limited engagement of this popular autobiographical comedy/drama is set beginning on June 5th, 2008.

Judy and Me recounts the true story of sixteen-year old "Anthony," trapped in the narrow-minded suburb of Elmont, Long Island -- the real hometown of playwright Peter Mac. An outcast at his jock high school, Sewanhaka (unfortunately still standing in Floral Park, NY), Anthony is the daily target of verbal and physical abuse from his classmates. Things are equally tenuous at home, where his father is a walking time bomb and a constant source of pain to Anthony and his mother. The teen finds his only escape in the music and entertainment of the legendary Judy Garland, who comes to life before his very eyes, helping him through his daily struggles with encouragement, wit, and strength. Through his passion for (and camaraderie with) Garland, Anthony learns to deal with his dysfunctional family, his horrible school life, and the realization that he's gay.

Judy and Me originally premiered in January 2002 at Rose's Turn in what was planned as a four-performance engagement. Instead, the booking continued through 2004 including a move to the Arthur Seelen Theatre and The Producers Club. It was received rapturously by both the public and critics in productions in and out of Manhattan. In HX  critic Jonathan Warman defined the play as "a dizzy, happy upward spiral of joy!" John Hoglund of Backstage praised it as "a warmhearted compelling outing with human issues that has legs!". Other's marveled at Mac's portrayal of the legendary rainbow diva. "Judy Garland lives! Peter Mac is brilliant"- Joe Franklin. The show received a nomination from HX magazine for Best Gay Themed play of 2003.

Judy and Me tackles both issues of homophobia and domestic abuse. It also delves into the reasons for Garland's everlasting and cross-generational appeal -- both in and out of the gay community. Previews begin on Thursday June 5th. The shows official opening night is Sunday June 8th.  The show plays every Thursday through Sunday through June 29th. One special Monday evening show will be performed

on June 30th. All shows are at 8:00 P.M. Doors open at 7:30 PM At The Producers Club, Royal Theatre, 358 West 44th Street between 8th and 9th  Avenues). All tickets are $25.00 and may be reserved by calling (718) 290-0660.  Tickets can also be purchased at www.Theatermania.com.

Judy and Me stars handsome newcomer Anthony Martinez with  Elyse Beyer, Jean Anne Kump, Chris McCabe, Basil Meola and featuring Peter Mac as Judy Garland. Judy and Me is directed by Charles Tolliver.

*** TREVOR WILLIAMS (DS PRODUCTION DESIGNER) DIES

The sad news was recently released that Trevor Williams died of a heart attack at age 76 while vacationing in England 2-14.

He was born in Harrow, England. His career included designing for features such as "Futureworld," "Pretty Baby," the "Police Academy" movies, and both films "House of DS" and "Night of DS." He also designed for TV's "Little House on the Prairie." He is survived by his wife, 2 sons, daughter, brother, and 4 grandchildren.

*** JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT (1991 DS David, Daniel) IN NEW MOVIE "STOP-LOSS"

SG Online Update #182 and recent SG print issues have reported his news about his co-starring role as "Tommy Burgess" in "Stop-Loss," a fact-based drama about a squad of soldiers in the Iraq War who return home to face the adjustment to civilian life - and a call-back to serve another tour of duty. It opened nationwide yesterday, March 28.

*** RARE FRENCH FILM WITH GRAYSON HALL TO BE RELEASED ON DVD

Grayson appeared as fashion magazine editor "Miss Maxwell" in the 1966 French-language satire "Qui Etes-Vous, Polly Magoo" - "Who Are You, Polly Magoo?", by director/screenwriter William Klein, with a musical score by famed composer Michel Legrand. Under the English title, the b&w movie is one of three films due for 1 5-20 release in a 3-disc set called "The Delirious Fictions of William Klein."

Netflix description: "Who Are You, Polly Maggoo? Qui êtes-vous, Polly Maggoo? (1966) (Not Rated) Supermodel Polly Maggoo (Dorothy McGowan) is at the center of a whirlwind of publicity. As she discusses her life with a television crew, she embarks on flights of fancy that include a 'Prince Charming' (Sami Frey), animated interludes and aluminum-foil clothing. This satire provides a scathing look at the fashion world as viewed by writer-director William Klein, the photographer and filmmaker who specialized in skewering the 1960s' sacred cows."

Grayson was a popular actress on DS as "Julia, Natalie, Magda," and other characters. She died of cancer 8-85 after a long career in film, TV, and stage, including the 1964 Oscar nomination for her "Judith Fellowes" in Tenneessee Willliams' "Night of The Iguana" with Richard Burton. For interested fans, I have photocopies of the SG pages in 9-85 with media obituaries and SG's tribute to Grayson. Please send a business-size SASE to the SG address below for these pages. Also, "Grayson Hall: A Hard Act to Follow" is her biography written by R. J. Jamison. Website: rjjamison.com

*** ADRIAN PAUL TV MOVIE DUE ON DVD
He starred as "Ananias Dare" in the 17th-century thriller "Lost Colony" on Sci Fi Channel 10-13-07. The dvd has a 5-20 release date. Publicity: "Adrian Paul stars in this TV movie about English colonists who become prey to an ancient evil and mysteriously disappear."

Adrian played "Jeremiah" in the 1991 primetime DS TV series. More information about "Lost Colony" is in the SG #112 print issue.

*** Please share with SG any reviews, articles, or publicity materials you find about "Stop-Loss," "Polly Magoo," and"Lost Colony."  Please send all materials to SG's e- or postal- mail addresses below.

*** SPECIAL DS ITEMS AVAILABLE FROM THE DS FESTIVAL

The Fest asks SG to tell fans that "only a handful of original DS ABC-TV 16mm kinescope negatives remain. They are available only from the Fest website. Also, the 2009 DS Calendar is now available for order." The Fest website and postal-mail address are in the first part of this Update.

John earned the 1986 Emmy Award as Best Supporting Actor - Drama Series and was nominated again in 1987 for his role as "Harvey Lacey" on the 1982-88 ground-breaking police drama CAGNEY & LACEY. The series was almost cancelled by CBS before casting changes brought John and others aboard. Critical and public recognition followed for its intense stories about real-life issues in the professional, personal, and emotional lives of 2 NYC women police detectives and their families.

Fox/MGM indicates it plans to release CAGNEY & LACEY Season 2 - the first full season of 22 episodes with John as "Harvey" - on 5-8. (They have not announced plans to release the first season, which consisted of only a few episodes with a different actress playing "Chris Cagney.")

Hello, Dark Shadows Fan,

ShadowGram (SG), The Official Newsletter & News Source for Dark Shadows (DS), announces the following breaking news:

*** DS FESTIVAL UPDATE - DS HAUNTED HALLOWEEN PARTY - THIS THURSDAY

Dark Shadows 40th Anniversary Haunted Halloween Party
Thursday, October 26, 2006 - 7:30 - 11:30 pm
Vista Theater, 4473 Sunset Dr., Los Angeles, CA 90027. 323-660-6639.

Tickets will be sold at the door that evening for this special one-time-only event, just a few days away.

--- ShadowGram Premiere Announcement:
Among the new developments for this most unusual DS evening are:

--- The original Barnabas wolf's head cane from the 1991 NBC-TV "Dark Shadows" primetime revival series will be auctioned. This is the genuine cane that was used by Ben Cross as Barnabas. It is identical to the traditional design used by Jonathan Frid as Barnabas in the 1966-71 series and "House of Dark Shadows" film.

--- Hands & Signatures in Cement Ceremony: The Oscar-nominated / Golden Globe-winning actress KAREN BLACK (Dan Curtis' "Burnt Offerings" and "Trilogy Of Terror") joins previously-announced famed "Scream Queen" actress BARBARA STEELE ("Black Sunday," "The Pit & The Pendulum", and Dr. Julia Hoffman / Natalie in the 1991 DS primetime revival TV series) in placing their hands and signatures in cement outside the Vista Theatre at the start of the evening.

In addition to the new activities mentioned above, the DS Haunted Halloween Party will include the following:

--- A half-hour concert of Robert Cobert's original music from DS with Robert Cobert in attendance.

--- A big-screen presentation of unusual DS material will be shown. Also screening is a tribute to DS creator Dan Curtis, who passed away earlier this year.

--- A Barnabas Collins Look-Alike Costume Contest encourages attendees to come in costume as the popular DS vampire and compete for a special prize. As a reminder, all attendees are welcome to come in costume if they wish!

--- An auction of rare DS and related memorabilia will take place

--- Free guest autographs will be available. Color / B&W photos and books written by some of the guests will be offered for purchase; these can be autographed at no extra cost. Some guests will be dressed in costume as their original characters.

--- In addition to Karen Black and Barbara Steele, the following DS actors are confirmed to appear, barring profesional commitments:
David Selby (Quentin), Kathryn Leigh Scott (Maggie), Lara Parker (Angelique), John Karlen (Willie), Jerry Lacy (Trask), Chris Pennock (Jeb), Robert Rodan (Adam), and Betsy Durkin (Victoria #2).

--- Appearing with guest Karen Black is the original Zuni fetish doll that terrorized her character in Dan Curtis' 1975 cult TV film "Trilogy Of Terror."

The historic restored Vista Theatre is at the intersection of Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards, 3 blocks east of Vermont Avenue, in Los Feliz (Los Angeles). The event will benefit the UCLA Alzheimer's Research Center in memory of Dan & Norma Curtis.

Each attendee will receive a complimentary gift. Those who purchase tickets in advance at the Vista box office (or who pre-purchased tickets through postal-mail) receive an additional surprise. An assortment of new DS merchandise will be for sale, along with popcorn, soft drinks, candy, and other refreshments.

Tickets are only $20 for adults, $15 for seniors & students, and $10 for children ages 6-12.

Tickets at the same price will be sold at the door that evening.

Or you can purchase advance tickets in person at the Vista box office after 4:00 pm on weekdays.

For out-of-town visitors: The Burbank Bob Hope Airport is only about 7 miles north of the Vista and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is about 12 miles southwest of the Vista. For sleeping accommodations, approximately ½-mile from the theatre are 2 hotels: The Hollywood Travel Lodge, 1401 N.
