Bonnie Hammer is the anti-Christ!!   >:D

My distaste for the supposed "SciFi" channel has grown so strong over the past two years that I'd really love to see Dark Shadows go *anywhere* else...  I don't trust the shows I like on that channel...

As for cable, our cable company is just so awful I got tired of dealing with them...   So now I have *nothing*.  Gasp!  :)

I'm in a "who needs broadcast TV" mood these days, enjoying having nothing but books and DVDs and my computer...  And having a *real life*...  :)

But once local networks are available by satellite in my area (probably a year or two) then I'll probably be hooking up again...  Soapnet sounds great, and it sounds like they treat their shows (and the fans) with a measure of respect, unlike SciFi...

Current Talk '03 II / Pre-Barnabas Eps ever on DVD?
« on: October 14, 2003, 04:48:09 PM »
After all the DVD sets are released...

...Do you think they'll go back, and make the first pre-Barnabas year available as a special edition-- like they did on VHS?

Has there been any announcements?  Does it seem likely to you?

I was just browsing the Victoria Winters thread under Current Talk, and remembering how much I liked the early Vicki, Maggie, Caroline, Devlin, etc...

The dialog seemed especially snappy in that first year, and even without the supernatural elements it was a darned good soap...

I'll be awfully disappointed if I can't ever get those first eps on disc...

Whatcha think?

I understand your frustration, and I tend to agree that in places where the video and/or audio is badly damaged, it would have been better if they'd just shown us whatever blemishes they have...  Rather than make split-second cuts around the unusable footage...

But I can't strongly fault them...  It's a no-win situation...  And these are meant to be commercial releases, after all, not archival recordings...  I think you're being nit-picky in your insistence that the sets no longer deserve to be called "uncut" or "complete"...

The sets are already far from perfect, what with all the kinescopes, that missing episode near the end, etc...   So I'm just thrilled to have 'em...

Early-diner-Maggie is one of my favorite characters of all time, so for me...  the best thing to imagine if Victoria had stayed would be: having them keep up the "Eve Arden" smart-ass personality for Maggie, rather than turning her into the replacement engenue(sp?)/victim...

Hopefully I can get back in sync with the rest of you now!  :)  I've got the last 25 episodes or so on my TiVo and haven't found the viewing time yet...

Like some others, I was nervous about all these preemptions, and the re-scheduling...  I'm relieved to hear that DS is on solid footing with Sci-Fi channel.  For now.

BTW: I really, really hate the "suits"at Sci-Fi channel...  I will never forgive them for cancelling their own 2nd highest rated show (Farscape) with no warning and in the middle of a cliffhanger... :(

I notice, too, that they showed Braveheart this weekend.  Huh??

I guess any similiarity between Sci-Fi channel and any real Sci-Fi is purely coincidental at this point...  They've actually been quoted saying "we have no interest in 'spaceship shows' anymore"....   They should just change their damn name to USA2 and quit insulting their genre audience.

Maybe Donnie was having an attack of the dreaded STATIC ELECTRICITY.

Let's hope he doesn't have one of those when he's in werewolf mode...   Yikes!!  :D

There is obviously prerequisites for the players of Quentin's game. One that we saw today involved the craft of acting. What other qualifications does one need?

The ability to understand and follow complex, detailed directions -- from a mute.  :D

Didn't Donna McKecknie turn out to be some big Broadway star or leading lady?

I don't know much about Broadway history, but I've heard her name pop up three or four different times as if she went on to become this big Broadway icon or something...  Maybe on the Tony's?

(She's even mentioned in the lyrics to one musical... In Malty & Shire's Baby, where 3 pregnant women sing about their heroes:  Madonna!  Donna McKechnie!  Donna Reed!)

Well...    You look short enough!  :D :D

In order to get the job, you have to be much, much shorter than both Chris and Quentin.  Evidentally, one loses about a foot and a half when the moon grows full...

Current Talk '02 II / Re: Dark Shadows Music
« on: September 14, 2002, 06:33:43 AM »
The repetitive nature of the DS incidential music is one of my favorite campy things about the show...  I mean they've got--what--600 hours of drama, and the same half-hour's worth of background suspense music playing thru the whole series...    As it is, you only have to watch for a week or two to have it all memorized...  I don't remember any other soap being as cheap with the original score...  They couldn't afford to commission a second LP of music?

I'd *love* to see a montage of famous scenes that all happen to use the exact same bits of music...  I'm sure there are plenty to choose from...

Just another one of those things that make it all such goofy fun...

« on: September 13, 2002, 07:55:43 PM »
I'll go ahead and vote for Barnabas and the vampire curse, just to be contrary...  :)  Since he (presumably) needed fresh victims all the time, and the wolf only kills during the full moon...  Plus, Angelique's curse also doomed anyone Barnabas would ever love -- which was part of your criteria...

But actually, I thought the dream curse was the most damaging -- because I had to watch it!!  :D

Thanks for the link!  I hadn't seen the site before.  Lots of fun stuff...  I really liked all those Grayson Hall interviews from TV Guide, etc.

And the "Lost Episodes" comic was hilarious.  Although if anyone turned out to be a "friend of Dorothy" I always figured it would be Roger, not Barnabas.  Good old Quentin, he could probably turn just about anybody's head around...  :)

Still waiting on mine from www.dvdsoon.com -- Says on order, expected around 9/17...  I knew this might happen with a Canadian e-tailer, but darn...  :(

They do this with Canadian release dates all the time -- if supply is short, they re-route everything to the states, and push the release back the date by several weeks.  Sigh.  They just did this with the Outer Limits, too...  Guess that's what I get for only paying $39.  Great bargain, but much patience required.  Oh well.  I hadn't really finished Set #1 anyway -- not with Quentin showing up on SciFi...

(By the way -- I'm livid with SciFi channel for cancelling Farscape, their #1 show for the past 3 years...  Evidently they've changed their minds about having any original series at all -- it's cheaper to just buy repeats.  I'd skip the channel completely except for DS...)
