Thank you so much, VAM and Gothick for sharing the information about Thayer David!  I haven't had much luck finding information about him, so I greatly appreciate any trivia or anecdotes.  I've always admired his ability as an actor, but the more that I learn about him as a person, the more I respect him and mourn his loss.

Many thanks to Midnite and Nancy for the photo as well!

ProfStokes

It is then no small wonder that he his often referred to as
"King Thayer."

I apologize if it seemed like I was bashing the profession.

It did not come across that way at all, Midnite.  Until we start paying teachers decent salaries, I believe that we will continue to see a decline in proper education.  It is sheer torture for me to stop at a fast food restaurant and have to deal with today's youthful work force.  I have seen tumors with hair that have better sense than some of our recently graduated youngsters that work at these places. :-[

Calendar Events / Announcements '02 I / Re: "The Uninvited"

Having read all your recommendations to watch "The Uninvited," I have programmed my TIVO to record it.  It will be airing at 3AM Eastern Time on Fri, April 5th on the Sci-Fi Channel.  The movie has a rating of 3 and a half stars!!  I can hardly wait to see it.  Thanks for the heads-up on this movie.
When I was growing-up, I couldn't get enough of spooky movies.  I lived in South Texas and we had a show called "Dr. Zekow."  He hosted a different scary movie every Saturday night at 10:30pm..  I still remember pleading with my mom to let me stay up and watch.  I had to earn the right to stay up by doing extra chores - but it was always worth it.  The funny thing is that my folks were friends with the man that played Dr. Zekow and would howl with laughter when they saw him as Dr. Zekow.  I would plead with them to leave the room as it took away the suspense and horror of the show.  He'd rise up from a coffin wearing a cape just like Barnabus - and this was way before DS ever became a series.  Dr. Zekow also wore eyes that had been made from a ping-pong ball that had been halved and were colored with red streaks...kinda gave him the bug-eyed Igor (Marty Feldman) look in "Young Frankenstein."  The painted pupils in the balls masked the small holes that allowed Dr. Zekow to see.   It was really spooky until the moment when one or the other "eyes" fell out.  It was live TV back then, and I have to admit that there were some pretty hysterically funny moments.  I still remember the first horror movie that I watched - "The Crawling Eye."  Every Halloween, I pull that movie out and watch it along with "The House on Haunted Hill" with Vincent Price.  Gotta love it!

I vote for Angelique!  Oh, those moon eyes, they spoke volumes!  And no one could smirk better than she.   Her subtle facial expressions were exquisite.  She didn't need many words to convey her feelings - as mixed-up as they were.  But, Bette, Magda would be a real close second for me, as well.  I think that Grayson was at her very best as the jewelry-clanking Magda.

There is nothing sadder then when a parent loses all her children at once.

One of my best friends lost her only two daughters at the same time.  A drunk driver hit them and the girls died on the spot.  Their mother suffers to this day and I don't think that she will ever be quite the same.

I am so sorry for your friend, Donna.  I remember watching an episode of the HBO series "Six Feet Under."  It dealt with the death of a child.  One of the characters said something to the effect that losing a child was the worst thing that could happen to a parent.  He went on to say that when a child loses his/her parents, we refer to them as orphans.  If a woman loses her husband, she's a widow.  When a man loses his wife, he becomes a widower.  But when a parent has a child die, it is so horrific that we don't even have a word in the English language for that.  :'(

Luciaphil and Nancy, all I can say is, "You go, girls!"  I enjoy your insightful postings.  I loved DS when I was young and now that I am old(er), I love it even more...thanks to the thought-provoking comments like you two (and of course, many others) provide.

Julia's alleged heirloom pendant:  She used it on Maggie to make her forget about being kidnapped once Maggie's memory started to return.  Julia also used it unsuccessfully on David to keep him from snooping around the old house and from finding out the truth about Barnabus.

Maggie's ring:  After Maggie was kidnapped by Barnabus in the previous storyline, he stashed it in a candleholder in Willie's room so that the sherriff and Sam could find it, seemingly establishing that Willie had been the stalker/kidnapper.
Possible spoiler, but I've got to ask, after Willie was shot so many times outside Maggie's bedroom, and we saw him clinging to dear life in the hospital, were we to assume that he recovered and went to prison?

Victoria Winters also gets my vote!  She had to put up with the demon seed child and was largely responsible for turning him into a rather likeable kid.  Had I been VW, I would have run out to buy duct tape to keep this kid strapped to his chair...and that is why I could never be a teacher.  Oh, woo.
It is no small wonder to find out that Vam, Gothick, HappyBat, Luciaphil, and Bette are librarians.  Some of the smartest postings come from the "Shadows in the Stack" gang!  When you read the postings, you get a sense of what the people must be like.  I very much look forward to meeting you all and as many other site members as I can.  Thank you for making this site my most very favorite website.

It sure worked for me, Midnite.  I, too, was a "lurker."  Too shy to write any of my thoughts.  I look forward to reading the postings with all the different and always entertaining observations before I watch the episodes.  This gives me a heads-up for some of the mentioned observations - that I would have probably missed.

P.S.  I now have a star by my name!  Yeah!!

I believe I have read that Nancy Barrett and David Ford were married at one time.  Can anyone tell me in terms of the DS storyline when this occurred?

Poor Julia - she's my #1 choice for worst dressed.  Starting with that awful green suit.  Also, who was responsible for her 1795 outfits?  She had the absolutely worst designed dresses - she never wore anything flattering.  But I still adored her.

Whew!  I couldn't possibly fathom what it was that I had written to deserve banishment.  It then occurred to me that - duh! - I hadn't posted anything lately.  Glad I decided to check the board to see whazzup.  I'm happy to still be considered a member - and that I haven't offended anyone.

Many thanks, as well, Midnite.  As I have never been to any of the DS festivities, I look forward to attending as many as I can this year - especially to meet all the interesting people that post on this board.  It never ceases to amaze me when I read such insightful and articulate postings.  I have often wondered what the combined genius of all whom post here could accomplish if given a common goal.  You guys are absolutely the best!  When my busy schedule allows, any free time I have goes to reading this website and Robservations.  I applaud your diligence and dedication to a show that has meant so much to us all.
