She also wears flats.

Bizarrely, I always though her flats were cute.  Also if I recall correctly, she's taller than the other actresses (she towers over Nancy Barrett) so that may have had something to do with it as well.

The secret room happens to contain a mattress of some sort. Not sure where that came from. Vicki's on it, showing a lot of leg.

While I guess I can appreciate Alexandra Moltke's legs, I find it somewhat disturbing that we usually only get to see them when she is bound and imprisoned.  I can recall a scene
when Adam has a KOed Vicki locked up in the west wing and her A-line dress is hiked up pretty darn high.  Hot.  And unsettling.
Current Talk '05 II / Re: 1991 Series To Be Released On DVD
« on: August 06, 2005, 01:08:35 AM »
My big concern is the format/price for the whole 13 episodes.  I mean, I don't  keep track of prices for TV series DVD releases, but Miami Vice season 1 was squeezed onto 3 discs and costs $40 for 22 hours of solid 80's goodness (plus some featurettes).  DS '91 is a half season of TV.  I won't be feeling generous if I feel someone is trying to rip me off.

obviously i love the original series and was greatly looking foreward to the 2004 version when it was in production.but for some reason the 1991 version has never held any interest for me.i can't explain it but i've never seen it and really don't plan to. :-
It's solid.  A relative lack of hot chicks though.

I liked Vicki early on.  DS was a solid gothic drama and she was the reasonably likeable protagonist.  She was a part of storylines.  Whatever uniqueness her character had was actually utilized as part of the stories (as opposed to later when her history/personality stops being a factor and she's either in bait or love interest roles).  She had really nice hair.

When it comes to AM's departure, I was really just hoping for a decent send off (which I didn't exactly get- I found it tough to root for Vicki + Peter as a couple).  I mean, her character was really insufferable.  She didn't want to be there and *really* didn't want to do scenes with Roger Davis.  The only reasons I was sad to see her go were a) all the built up good-will and empathy I had for VIcki and b) AM was smokin' hot for most of 1968 (sorry).

Current Talk '05 I / Re: What About an Animated Dark Shadows?
« on: April 27, 2005, 08:56:21 AM »
In my opinion, any incarnation of Dark Shadows done well is a good thing.  While I'm not really sure animation is *the* medium for DS, it would probably allow for good conveyance of a really creepy gothic/horror mood.

Anyway, I don't think it's feasible at all though.  Has there ever been a serious and successful cartoon with an adult target demo?  As far as I know, the oldest they really try for is high school age males.  I don't see non-Japanese adults tuning in to watch animated Lara Parker put a spell on animated Barnabas who takes an animated bite out of... you get the idea.

That said, I think it would be kinda cool if they did go the route of reworking DS into a cartoon network type show targeted at young adults.  I mean, cool in an "Oh My God, they've horribly butchered DS" kinda way.

All three networks still have Standards and Practices offices as do some of the major cable networks. There are still things that cannot be said, done, or shown on TV. Sometimes there are also legal liability issues as well.

"Standards and practices are a vital link in keeping good and funny ideas away from you, the television viewer."

or better yet:

"Hey, check it out... if you pause the DVD just right, you can almost see the bottom of Moltke's knees."
"Whoa.  Hot."

Honestly though, I can't imagine censorship constraints would've made a big difference in DS .  Granted, you never know, (Barbara Eden's bellybutton...  Unacceptable!) but they managed to get Satan, a number of violent deaths, and KLS's minis on there.  Throw in that a big chunk of the target audience was kids and I just start wondering what they really would've done differently given the chance.  "Modern Sensibilites" would've freed the writers up to possibly explore new themes and stories, but look at the revival.  We saw relatively few new elements that would've been "off-limits" in the 60s (mostly weird sexual energy and some gore) and they weren't enjoyed by a number of fans.

Angelique constantly flutters her eyelashes when she's talking, especially when she's making some impassioned plea to Barnabas.

taking a page out of the Diana Millay "how to be a DS evil chick" guide, no doubt.  Her constant blinking drove me nuts during the Phoenix storyline.

Current Talk '25 I / Re:WB ORDERS FILMING OF NEW DS PILOT

I stand corrected.  Maybe it is the wave of the future.

either way, of course, you will not convince me it was a good idea as *I* (ya know, the viewer who matters  ;)) lost track of the show.

[For instance, a few seasons back the WB started out that season with 13 Felicity episodes (wrapping up with a cliffhanger), which then gave way to episodes (I forget exactly how many) of Jack and Jill, followed by the remaining 9 episodes of Feliciity.

As far as new shows are concerned, the Jack & Jill example is probably not the archetype for success the network execs are going for.  Splitting a semii-established show's season (in this case Felicity) doesn't do as much harm as splitting a new show (J&J).  The odds of people coming back some months later is slim unless they're ardent followers of the timeslot/network to begin with.  I don't think Jack & Jill survived season 1 part 2.  Of course it's just one example and it could've been destined to fail from day 1, but if I'm watching network television a show must be doing *something* right.
